I hope this is the right forum to ask this question- I figured maybe it is since the Halloween party info is in this forum??

Anyway, I have a question about the appropriateness of a costume and I'm hoping you will give me your opinions on this?

I will be at WDW for MNSSHP on Oct 30th- and I hadn't really thought about dressing up in a costume. HOWEVER, in shopping for the kids' costumes recently I found a bargain $20 adult costume- and it looks really good on me and I have black shoes that match perfectly/etc. The thing is- it's kind of a "witch" costume.

Well, it's like a black dress jagged on the hem at the bottom with a black cape, belt and pointy hat that is covered in silver stars and moons. It wouldn't really be "scary" because I wouldn't wear makeup and well- I'm just not the scary looking type person either (5'2, petite, sorta blonde still- haha).

But do you think that would be inappropriate to wear to WDW on that night? I mean does everyone dress up in Disney costumes? Is anything even remotely RELATED to anything "scary" considered inappropriate because of all the kids there and such? I know this costume wouldn't scare any of my children- not even the youngest- but just checking just in case.....

What do you think?

It sounds fine to me--not scary at all. Have fun!

Thanks! I was hoping it would be okay. It really isn't scary- just wasn't sure what kinds of costumes the adults usually wear- this is my first time there around Halloween!

Everyone else think it will be okay to wear that? Let me know!

Sounds fine to me!!! Have fun!!

I am worried about this too. My husband is going as batman, and I hope no one deems him too scary. He is afterall a super HERO not a villan, but he is dressed in mostly black.

Have fun at the party!

No way- I don't think that will be a problem at all. Batman is a good guy. :)
I really don't think the costume would be scary to any child- unless there happens to be one that is just scared because of the pointy hat (with silver stars/moons) because it reminds them of a witch or something. But honestly it's no different really than the wizard hats they sell there.... know which ones I'm talking about? The round brim might be wider- but they are very similar actually.
I just would really hate to go and either scare kids or have people giving me dirty looks because it is considered inappropriate costumes there. Does Disney have any rules on this that I might be breaking with this costume?

I in all honesty, don't think a witches costume would be classified as too scary. I think it sounds cute. I think too scary is some of those really horror type masks, or possibly some really graphic make-up jobs. I am in the midst of trying to get our group of 9 adults to dress up. Right now I have about 4-5 into the idea. Most of them think only the 3 kids should dress up. We'll be there 10/31!!

I wouldn't worry too much. If you've read the MNSSHP thread a lot of adults are going as villians from Disney movies. I think this would scare children a lot more than your costume would. Hopefully parents have taken the time to explain to their children that these are all people just pretending....Have fun. We will be at the party on 10/14. Can't wait.......

I think when they talk about scary they mean things like the grim reaper, Jason. etc! Some people go over the top with blood and gore.

If I had this costume, I'd go and buy some orange sequins and sew or glue them on and make the mickey icon!:earseek:

Thanks for all the replies! I really appreciate it. :)
I figured there might be some "scary" costumes- but if they are Disney villians then they "fit" somehow (in my mind atleast). LOL So I wasn't sure if a non-disney costume, while not really scary but is considered a scary "character" and I could make it scary if I wanted with paint on my face/etc- which I'm not- would be appropriate or frowned at either by CMs or other guests.

Penny- if you were referring to my costume... explain what you mean? Make Mickey all over too- with the silver stars/moons? I'm all for a way to make it "fit" Disney themed in some way. :)
