Question about Contemporary Resort

We just came back from our Disney trip and stayed at Pop Century, but we went to Chef Mickey's and we got to see the Contemporary. We would love to stay there for our next trip (probably not for another 3 years though...but I love to look forward to it!), and I have a question.

Are all rooms' entrances located above where the monorail stops? It seems it may be loud and you would hear the monorail pulling in and out, and also the music from Chef Mickey's early in the morning. Is this the case or is it more soundproof? Are all rooms located here? How is the experience at this resort? It is the least expensive of the monorail resorts, and we would really love to stay on the monorail line next time. And we have plenty of time to save up!

We just stayed at the CR for 4th of July, The rooms are lovely! We could hear music from Chef Mickey's around 8 am (should have been in the parks by then anyway:) and felt the monorails on occasion (vibrate rather than noise, kind of cool.) None of this bothered me in anyway, thought it was VERY COOL!

Being able to see the fireworks was amazing, have dreamed of this for 33 years since our honeymoon in a gremlin in the campground in 75.

We were also surpised on the final night with a spectacular firework display, apparently for a wedding, than was about 2x the size of wishes, right out our window on the lake!

Was great popping on and off the monorail!

ther eare two garden wings that extend off each end... but you never hear anything in those rooms above
it was all part of the original design to sound proof

The North wing has been demolished and is being replaced by a DVC tower, but the SOuth wing remains. I stayed in the main tower last year on the MK side. I was on the 9th floor directly over Chef Mickeys. I could not hear or feel the monorail, but I could hear chef mickeys. It wasn't too bad. If the tv was on it drowed it out. I think it bothered my girlfriend more than me as she likes to take naps in the afternoon.
As for the resort experiance, I loved it! By being able to see the monorail while swimming in the pool, or see the MK and surrounding resorts from my balcony, I felt as though I never left the parks. I'm planning a return trip in 2009 :)

We just returned and orginally stayed at the CSR and decided to upgrade for the last two nights of our trip to the Contemporary Resort. We have stayed at CSR, CBR, Dolphin, Pop, Movies, we absolutely loved the Contemporary Resort!! The rooms are amazing!! WE watched the fireworks from our room every night and my kids loved waking up to check out Chef Mickeys!! We were on the 7th floor and never heard the monorail. I tell you there is nothing better than being that close to the Magic Kingdom and on the monorail system. My kids (12 & 9) really enjoyed the pool activities, they played music and games (with really good prizes, board games & stuff) the arcade rocked, if you are in to that, which all my kids are (including husband) This trip we set the bar higher!! Can't wait to return to the Contemporary Resort!!!

A few years ago my family and I had a Magic Kingdom View room on the 6th floor and we never heard any loud noise from the Monorail when it went threw while we were in our room. In fact when your standing on the 4th floor and see the Monorail go by it's very quiet. If you want anymore information here is a link to the Contemporary FAQ thread. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1710920

We stayed at the CR last year, and were in the atrium, I think on the 8th floor. We never heard any noise from the monorail, or the restaurants, or much of anything. We loved having a view of the MK and the fireworks, etc. It's more costly staying in that building rather than in one of the wing buildings, but the view was fantastic. I doubt that we'd stay at the CR again....mainly because of the cost....the mods are more in our price range now, but it was fun having a MK view once in my lifetime.

they have pretty good soundproof - you won't heard your neighbor - but the monrail was a problem - so it is hidden with white noise - that you won't even notice less you go stay at another resort immediately after (went to a 1-bedroom at OKW - oh heaven - so quiet)

the south wing is not connected to the tower - so it doesn't need it.

chef mickey's going get really loud every hour when they do that party thing.

don't count on it being the least expensive for many more years - because these are the rooms in the south wing not the tower.

It may be torn down pretty quick - now that they are almost finished with the BLT (bay lake towers @ Disney's CR).

Now it may still be part of CR (and not DVC - like BLT is maybe) - but it will be all suites. EXPENSIVE.

it would be use mostly for the convention guests.

or if BLT is a success (like I am hopping) it may become another DVC - but definitely not counting on it. CR wants more suites and they would love the current building. anyway that is the rumor mill.

so in 5 years if not sooner can see the end of the inexpensive rooms at CR.

This is just my personal opinion but I don't see them getting rid of the South Garden Wing for two reasons. The 1st one is that all those rooms just got renovated like in the Tower, so why would WDW go threw all that trouble and tear it down? 2nd It's hard enough trying to get a reservation at the Contemporary with the loss of the North Garden Wing, so it would only be harder if they get rid of the South Garden Wing.

We've staryed at the CR twice and it's awesome! It's vibrant and active, and well, exciting! We loved it that when we opened our door, the action was right there. We were never bothered by the monorail sound, you can't really hear it. We heard the Chef Mickey a bit, but it was more of a pleasure than a nuisance. I say save up and go for it! The rooms are so large compared to other resorts on property, and the beds are SO comfy!

I stayed on a room facing the lake, 6th floor I think, on the Chef Mickey's side. I never heard the monorail, but the noise from Chef Mickey's was annoying. My DH (DBF at the time - he proposed on our last night on the beach) is a late sleeper and we found the noise from Chef Mickey's very annoying - but we were right above it. I've heard that if you are at the other end of the hotel, the noise is much more manageable.

because CR wants nicer suites.

the end of the south wing will happen - don't count on it begin around in 5 years.

CR want to appeal to the convention crowd - one way to do it - is to offer suites instead of rooms.

They want BLT - but don't think they will get it. but the south wing one is probably definitely going to be part of the CR and not DVC - but hey this is a rumor.

My family and I had the opposite experience. The times when we have had a room over Chef Mickey's we did not mind the noise from there, so I guess that's why everyone will have different opinions.

We stayed in the now extinct North Garden Wing and found that the walls were paper thin. We could hear practically everything being said by the people above us and beside us. When people were walking down the hall it sounded as if they were coming into the room. The Tower rooms are supposedly more sound proof partially because of they way they were constructed. My sister also stayed in a NGW room and said that her neighbor's snoring actually woke her up (luckily we weren't next to her so it wasn't my DH waking her up, lol).

One of my SIL's stayed in a MK view Tower room and never said anything about noise from her neighbor. But with her slightly rowdy kids she might not have heard anything anyway although her neighbors might have heard plenty. ;)

that is strange.

stayed in SW-SV - on the 2nd floor - didn't heard anything above or below or to the side.

guess we got lucky and didn't know it.

they had a convention going on - so the place was crowded.

The least expensive rooms are NOT in the tower. The South Garden wing has the least expensive rooms..then the bay view in the tower..then the MK view rooms in the tower. The MK view rooms are expensive. :)
