Question about celebrating a birthday in Disney

We plan to go next year around the beginning of May. My youngest daughter's birthday isn't until the end of May, but I was thinking that since we will be at Disney, maybe it would be extra special for her if we have a small early celebration with a cake, maybe at Chef Mickey's or 1900 Park Fare, while we are there. Has anyone done this? Celebrated a bit early, just so you can celebrate at Disney? Or do they require you to celebrate on your exact birth date?

We're celebrating ds's 7th birthday 5 days late. His birthday is June 23rd but we won't get to Disney until June 28th. We usually have his family birthday party on a different date than his real birthday anyway so this doesn't bother me at all. My in-laws will be there the first week of our vacation so I ordered a cake to celebrate his birthday while they are with us.

We will be at WDW 8/18 - 8/25. DD 14th birthday is not until 9/9 but this trip is her Bday present. We can't go on her Bday because school states on 8/27. We will be celebrating our entire stay. I have small gifts for her for each morning. We will be surprising her with a Diver at Coral Reef. We were ordering a cake at 1900 Park Fare, but since they are doing the refurb we changed our reservation to Whisper Canyon. I noted on all of our reservations that we were celebrating DD Bday (don't know if they will do anything special, but I did make a note of it). DD does not know we are taking this trip. All plans will be kept secret until the week we leave.:cool1:

Go ahead & celebrate! Make this a trip/Bday that will be remembered forever.

Thanks for responding. I hope you have a wonderful trip and your DS will have an amazing birthday!! :)

I was just wondering, because we would be at Disney about 3 weeks before her actual birth date. Do you think that it's silly or inappropriate to celebrate that early? I could just hear my oldest son, who is slightly autistic, and very big on details, telling the waiters at the restaurant....

:hyper:"Actually, today isn't her birthday... It's not until the 26th!" :scared1:

Oh good, this makes me feel a little better about it. I was feeling a bit guilty, and didn't want the "birthday police" to come and get me. LOL! :lmao:

Thanks for posting!! Have a wonderful trip and your DD is a lucky girl!! :cutie:

My oldest son is mildly autistic (Asperger's syndrome) so I know what you mean about being detail oriented.

I won't pretend that it's my ds's actual birthday, I will tell them we are celebrating ds's birthday. I also ordered a cake at Coral Reef and the diver. Since we were able to celebrate one dd's birthday at Disney in January and ds's birthday in June I'm ordering my other dd (birthday in September, not even close to when we'll be at Disney) a Very Merry Unbirthday Cake one night!

Hi DisneyMomx7,

My son has Pervasive Developmental Disorder.

That's so cool you are getting the diver! Do you mind me asking how much that costs? We will be going to the Coral Reef one night during our stay. What do they do, just swim down holding a sign that says Happy Birthday?

Thanks again for responding! princess:

Here's the best part - it's free! You just have to call the restaurant and set it up. You tell them the date and time and your ADR # and they'll hold up a sign that says Happy Birthday (Insert Name).

Have a wonderful trip!

:woohoo: FREE! Woohoo! Now that's awesome!! I will definitely have to think about doing that for DD's 3rd birthday.

Thanks so much!!

Oh and by the way, I think it's cool, we are also a family of 5 with 2 little princesses and a prince charming! ;)

Thanks again!!

Don't want to scare you but we're actually a family of 9! The older kids are dd (30), ds's (24, 22 and 21). We thought we were done at four kids but then surprise! I had chemo and thought we weren't even able to have more kids - at 39 I got the shock of my life. My youngest at that time was almost 12 and we started all over. We didn't want dd (9) to feel like an only child hence dd (8) and ds (6). The older kids don't come with us any more. One is married (dd), one is in law school (ds 22), one is in college (21) and one is just starting to work on his masters (dd 23 - the one with Aspergers).

Sorry if my signature is somewhat misleading. Its just they are the only ones who travel with us anymore.

BTW I was able to order a cake at Coral Reef with a "nemo" theme if that interests you at all.

Robyn,

Wow! You have an amazing family. I'm so impressed that your son with Asperger's is working on his masters. That's awesome!! That gives me so much hope. I always worry about my DS, who has PDD, and how things will be for him when he is an adult. I do feel he's come a long way, and I believe it's because we started early intervention when he was 3. Right now, he wants to be a travel agent. He LOVES maps and anything to do with travel. Who knows, maybe someday, he'll be helping us book our Disney vacations. ;)

No more kids for us, unless of course, it's meant to happen. I want to go to nursing school once my littlest starts Kindergarten.

Hey, speaking of cakes. Like you said you ordered "the nemo cake" from Coral Reef. Is there a website or thread that shows you the different choices to choose from for each place? ie. Cake design choices from Chef Mickey, 1900 Park Fare, ect.
Or basically do you just think up your own idea of what you want on the cake, and they just make that? ie. something with nemo, or minnie mouse

Thank you. Its been a long hard road for ds but things are looking up. He's a wonderful person and I'm very proud of him. My ds has always been interested in history (can memorize historical facts like nobody's business) and got his undergraduate degree in history. He's working on his masters in history and hopefully would be able to teach at our local community college when he's done. I'm also very lucky that his brothers are very close to him and when they come home from school take him places (bowling, movies etc). Unfortunately social things and friends do not come easily to him. I think that is why God gave us such a big family!

Back on topic:

When I ordered the cake from Coral Reef I just asked them for something with a Nemo therem (to go with the diver, aquarium). The man I spoke to told me they can do a Nemo scene in fondant. I'm guessing it will be good because the other cakes I have ordered in the past were really nice.

My favorite birthday cake that we have ever ordered through was the chocolate Mickey head cake! I liked that even better than the mini castle
cakes.

Robyn,

My DS absolutely LOVES history. In fact, he told me, about a month ago, that he should be a history major! Which took me by surprise when I saw that your DS is doing that very thing. But then DS said, "But I can't...because I'm going to be a travel agent!" LOL! To which I replied that with a lot of hard work and determination he could become anything he wanted.
He will just get out his history book and look it over for hours. He knows a lot more about history than me I'm afraid to admit. :rolleyes1

About the cakes, I would love to get DD either a mickey head cake or a princess cake. Right now, at this point in time, she LOVES Little Einsteins and Mickey. So when we go next year, she might be into something totally different. Where did you order the chocolate Mickey cake from? That sounds really good. When we go, it will be my family and my sisters family so their will be a total of 9 people.

Thanks again!

I agree - go for it. There's a difference between celebrating a birthday, and observing it. You can celebrate it really whenever works for you. You can only observe it (aka become a year older) ON the actual date :)

I know ds really has always enjoyed history and certainly had the apptitude for it. In fact he made the dean's list several times in college!

I ordered the chocolate mickey head cake from the bakery in MK. We had it at Crystal Palace but they can do it for any MK restaurant. When I called Coral Reef they told me they could do a mickey head cake also. I think a lot of places are offering it now. It could definitely feed 9 people. We had it for the five of us and had a ton left over. I was actually letting the kids eat it for breakfast the last few days. We still had enough left over to leave the mousekeeper several pieces when we left. Let me know what you decide. Have a wonderful trip!!!!

I'm glad I searched the boards for birthdays that aren't on birthdays. I thought for sure NO ONE had asked that before. :rotfl2: Silly me!

We are going end of Aug./beginning of September. DD has a bday almost right when we get home, DS is in early October, but our trailer DS is in December. That said, we want the trip to be one big bday celebration for the three of them.

I think we'll "GO FOR IT":wizard: I don't know why I was concerned as if we were somehow "cheating" but I think it's just my overly cautious nature.....I look over the side of the cliff before diving...my DH just runs over and yells COWABUNGA....I need to chill out :cool2:
