Question about buying a different use year

I’ll be at 40 days tomorrow in ROFR on my resale contract so I’m preparing for the inevitable take back of my SSR contract at $126/pt (it had my same use year as my direct contract). I really don’t think it has any hope. Anyway I’ve already found 3 other contracts that will work but they aren’t my current use year. I have no concerns about managing 2 different use years in the future. My main concern is that I had anticipated being able to transfer some current bookings on my direct contract to the resale contract once it came through since they had the same use year (a couple nights at GF and a couple nights at SSR made within 7 month booking)….Because I need more riv points for a planned stay at riv next year. From everything I’ve read so far, it doesn’t sound like I’d be able to transfer those reservations between contracts/memberships, correct? If that is the case, has anyone had luck finding someone in member services that had mercy on them in a similar situation? (Or maybe it just isn’t possible). I guess another option would be to drop the reservations at 3 AM and hope that I can rebook them before the waitlist catches them

The reservations are tied to the membership. They cannot be moved to a new one.

So, if you go with a different UY, then the only way to accomplish it is to transfer points from the new membership into the current one and use them toward the reservations.

This assumes that the points you get will be eligible for the trips. Transferred points retain their own UY and home resort and cannot be borrowed to cover trips. They can be banked though.

Also, to avoid holding, you’d need to make sure any modifications are done at least 31 days out.

Ohhh I hadn’t realized that transferring points would possibly solve my problem. But I guess once I transfer them, I would just reassign the new resale Saratoga points to the reservations that are eligible for it (like the ones made at 7 months at GF and SSR) and free up the riviera points for riviera. Since the membership where the reservations are currently made is a Riviera direct contract, I wasn’t sure that I could transfer resale points that I know wouldn’t be eligible at riviera into it. These restrictions certainly complicate things. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply.

Pls correct me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression that you can't make a reservation using home resort priority and then swap it out using different points later on. Because otherwise people would buy just enough points to make home resort reservations and then actually "spend" cheap SAP instead. I don't know how it would work in your situation (i.e. swapping out 7m for 7m points) but I would confirm before losing a hard to book reservation.

The reservations weren’t made with home resort priority. But I believe you’re right, swapping wouldn't be allowed if the 11 month advantage was used.

Correct, you can not do it unless there are still rooms available for those nights.

In this case, the rooms were booked using RIV points within the 7 month mark so any points can be used for those.

You can transfer in resale points. You just won’t be able to use them to book RIV with them.

It would no different if you had a resale contract in that membership. Only RIV points good at RIV and future resorts!
