Question about booking Disney colletction

If we were going to call MS and book a few nights at a Disney Collection hotel can they just transfer a reservation over from CRO or do they make a whole new one?

Let's say we already have a cash reservation through CRO for the exact same nights that we want to book that hotel using pts.

Would it even be helpful to mention that to MS or do they just book a completely different reservation?

They would have to make a separate reservation. If the resort is soldout for some of the nights you want, it maybe helpful if you mention you already have a cash reservation, maybe they could coordinate the cancellation.

I was also thinking it might be helpful to have a cash reservation and at least mention it.

Has anyone ever booked the Disney Collection and had them use your cash reservation and just "convert" it somehow to one using points?
