I am a platinum cruiser and have only finally got the hang of doing the check-ins quickly. My last two cruises I have gotten a boarding group of 5. Does anyone know if it is possible to get a lower one without staying concierge or by using DCL transportation?

I am not using either of those and I am a Silver member. I got boarding group 3 for my cruise coming up.

Platinum also. When I inquired about that earlier this year I was told that it is all controlled by Shore Side services and it correlates with your PAT in order to keep crowding down on the gangway. Consequently guest services said they have no way to change it.

You don't mention what PAT you've had when you were given boarding group 5. My guess is it's not the earliest, and lower boarding groups go hand-in-hand with earlier PATs. Earliest PAT out of Port Canaveral is 10:30am; earliest PAT at other ports is usually 11am.

Both times I was assigned boarding group 5 I had 11:15am port arrival times, as those were the earliest to chose when I was done checking in.

We're first time DCL cruisers (split into two staterooms) and have boarding group 2 and 3, both with an 11am PAT. It appears that a lot depends on having all of your docs/photos ready and then the luck of having no tech difficulties and lower demand. We were sitting side by side doing check in on two computers with all our docs ready and my husband got the spinning wheel more often and got group three, even though he only had two people's docs to upload and I was doing 3. I don't think our ship is very full, compared to others.

For those of us that cruise frequently I think there should be a way that we don't have to upload the same passport photo and photo of us every time. There should be some way that it is saved in your profile. That is usually what takes me forever is uploading the passport and personal photo. Kind of like with safe passage were you don't have to upload your vaccination card every cruise you just put in a new reservation #.

For my latest cruise on the Dream out of Miami I checked in right at midnight and was able to get boarding group 2 with an 11am PAT. I didn't use DCL transportation.
