I'm not a DVC owner (yet), and part of the reason is that my family LOVES the Beach Club! We've stayed there multiple times, and we usually get "upgraded" to a water view on the closest wing to Epcot (usually at the end of a LONG hallway.

My hubby's (and sister's) concern if we rented or bought at BCV is that we won't have the convenience of being right at the path to Epcot and the SAB. (The view is their backup reason.)

How far of a walk is it to the BCV from Epcot, and can you give me anything to counter their concerns?

The BCV building is behind the BC so no lake view. Parking lot, quiet pool, service road, trees, and courtyard are the views. The walking distance is about the same.

The difference in walking time to EPCOT is maybe 3 min, I have made it from my room to IG gate in 7 minutes, and maybe 1 min longer to SAB, and BCV will be a shorter walk to the Marketplace and BC Lobby.
The biggest difference will be in the accomodations, Studios, 1 BR, and 2 BR units vs. typical hotel room, assuming you are not getting suites.
The view is the only thing that BCV doesn't have, so you need to decide how much is that worth.

The fastest way to walk is to start at the DVC courtyard, then out along the walkway on the woods side of the hotel wing closest to Epcot. It puts you out next to the bridge to the Boardwalk area. It's basically the same distance to Epcot as the lobby. Views from the DVC wing are not the best -- either the pool/parking lot, the courtyard, or the woods. If you can get a top floor on the woods side, then you can see Illuminations. To echo what somebody else said, the main reason for DVC at BCV is the accommodations. Having a one or two bedroom with a kitchen and full living room is so much better than a hotel room. I've been an SSR owner since 2005, and we've stayed at BCV 4 times since then. One more thing -- we stayed at BWV last March and got a Boardwalk view room on the far end by Atlantic Dance Hall. We got a gorgeous view of the Epcot "golf ball" (as my kids call it) and of Illuminations from our balcony. So you also have that option with DVC points.

My family also loves the Beach club. We stayed in the BCV once on points and didn't like the location. We love the Boardwalk area so we now stay at the Boardwalk. The only drawback is no SAB!

We love BCV. We honestly don't spend that much time in the rooms there, so the view doesn't matter to us. So much to do with the parks so close, the boardwalk, SAB etc.
