question about bathrooms in the parks...

Am I the only one who has my DD stand on public toilets? She stands on them and squats over it.
I hate the idea of her sitting on public toilets- and I don't think those thin little paper liners do much.

You have her stand on the toilet seat in her filthy shoes?

The people at the MK baby center were very nice the last time we were there. We asked to use their restrooms for our 4 and 3 year old boys as they were terrified of the loudness of the regular restrooms. It was no problem, no questions asked for them to use the small and much quieter restrooms there, even though both were fully potty trained.

You have her put her filth covered shoes on the toilet??? How extremely RUDE!

WDW is a good time as any to teach your child about public bathrooms and how to be considerate of the next user. It's also a good place to teach your child about how to 'make' a clean toilet. My older DD knows to go into a stall, wipe down the seat, toilet, flush the toilet and wipe down the seat again(takes care of that huge backsplash w/ the automatic flushes). Then she comes out and washes her hands throughly. My younger DD is slowly getting on board as she is becoming more insistent that she can go into the stall herself and do it all herself. After quite a few wet behinds she's realizing that it is important to look and wipe the seat down first! ;)

We don't use the seat covers as they make more of a mess and are more hassle then they are worth. Covering a wet seat will still leave you with a wet behind.

OP - I do believe I also saw child-height sink (also for those in chairs) There are a number of family restrooms around the parks too.

I must admit get a kick out of some of these questions as I had similar ones when my kids were younger and I was still new to it all, but they're the same things families have had to deal with over & over again through the years. :rotfl: No child sized toilets? We moms adapt by doing the circus worthy balancing act - the one where we basically hold them by the armpits while they do their thing lest they should slip and let their bottoms go for a swim ... and sinks were even better - they'd "sit" on our 1/2 lifted knee while we finagle our purse & bags to get the soap and start the sink for them.

I miss those days

ETA - Disney's awesome with providing the protective toilet seat. Wipe the seat first and put 'em on ;)

that is really gross!!! I try not to judge what others do, but you are also teaching her some weird habits.

I purchased, just last night, a travel sized Clorox Wipes packet and a travel sized Lysol spray at Target. They also carry tiny little bottles of store brand anti-bacterial hand gel for $.99. I have seen the tiny Lysol's at grocery store check outs as well.

again......

Please, Please, Please do not use Colorox spray or wipes in the stalls. It can be life threatening to someone with allergies/chemical sensitivites. According to WDW they are even recommending guests use baby wipes instead of Clorox.

Speaking as a nurse with a speciality in urology I can assure you that you are more likely to get cystitis from not emptying your bladder properly by sitting, squatting, standing etc over public toilets than you are by possibly picking up "nasty things" from sitting on one.

I have the problem of my dd now just 2 being terrified of all public toilets not only because of the automatic flushers but also the strong (and noisy) air hand driers which have been installed there in the last couple of years. She dissolves in floods of hysteria if I even suggest going into one. Anyone have a solution for this?????

??standing on the toilet seat:confused3 :confused3 --don't her socks get wet?? do you take her dirty shoes off for the rest of us that can't 'stand on a toilet seat?
wipe down the seat & use the paper liners---unless anyone has open sores on their legs/thighs/buttocks---no one is going to 'catch' anything from a public toilet seat.
Hopefully if one has open sores on their bodies, they would be cautious enough for themselves & cover the area with a 'dressing'/bandaid covering.

HAND WASHING, HAND WASHING is the MUST, MUST. Friction is the key.

God, I hope so.

Are we really so germ phobic?

Just got back...Disney Studios' baby care center DID have a child-sized toilet (but no adult bathroom) and Epcot did NOT have child-sized (but did have adult). I was told MK has child-sized ones, but I didn't visit that one personally. No other womens' restroom I was in had the shorter toilets, but most had shorter sinks. For those of you with boys, DH said most of the mens' rooms had shorter urinals.

FWIW, I found Disney's bathrooms to be as clean as any public restrooms...much better than the typical amusement park - more like a mall department store. I teach DS not to put his hands on his face/mouth until we get them washed, and I just make sure he washes well. Germs are a fact of life, IMO. I doubt the bathrooms in his preschool when all the kids were first getting potty trained were that clean, either!

Okay, I confess that I haven't read all the replies...but can't you just put a toilet seat cover or some toilet paper on the seat??? :confused3

Wow, I hope you are also showing her how to clean up the mess she makes by putting her dirty shoes on the toilet seat.

OP--Why on earth do you want to cart a toilet seat around? Is it the size of it, or because you are afraid of germs?

People are getting a little nuts with all of the toilet seat fear. So now most places provide the little paper covers, and those are not even enough for some? :confused3 Why not just use a wipe and then put a seat cover down? Then wash your hands when you are done.

I would be more worried about the other places you pick up germs. The hand rails. The seatbelts. The strollers. Everything you touch at Disney is bound to be covered with germs. Just wash often and use hand sanatizer. But to single out the potty as "the" germy place is kind of silly.

This might have mentioned before but I teach my children to wipe the seat, flush using their feet(sorry this might gross some out but I would rather that than get some nasty stuff on their hands and spread it when they wipe-it's really no worse then someone who wipes and uses that same hand to flush) then they line the seat with tp making sure it hang over the bowl so when their pant/leg hang it comes in contact with the tp. We are not against using the seat covers as a liner for the side of the bowl after we have followed the wipe/flush method. My children also know to hold their pant legs up to they don't touch (sometime wet) floors. This is strongly enforced turn on the water to warm (if possible) rinse your hands wet, get soap rub hands together making sure to get in between your fingers for at least 15 seconds, rinse the soap from your hands, dry with a papertowel or tp(if no pt is ava), turn off water with the papertowel or tp, using the same papertowel or tp open the door to exit.(some people don't wash after using the br-super gross)

A tip-For the automatic flushers I usually put a piece of tp over the sensor and that works great, no need to carry post it(as a pp suggested)

Good luck

I agree with this...think of the people that don't wash their hands after the bathroom, :scared: they leave the bathroom and touch a railing, a ride, etc. Unless you have a compromised immune system or other issue, is the toilet seat itself that big of a deal? (assuming it's dry, of course :scared: )

I agree, in my experience the Disney restrooms have always been pretty clean :)
