Hey all,

I am closing on my contract this week with The Timeshare Store. I have 115 points I need to use before 2/1/15. Depending on when I get my membership info and when I can book a room. How hard do you think it will be for me to get a studio for a week at AKL? I'm just curious on how close you can get to your travel date in regards to booking the room. Any information would be great.

Thanks

You should be able to get something during August, early September, or the last half of January. If you can't get AKV you should at least be able to use the points at SSR as long as you are not traveling in October or during the holidays (Nov or Dec).

Your best chance is mid to late Jan. Most rooms are book mid Sept through beginning of Jan, with a few days here and there open. You may be able to get something late Aug/early Sept, most likely an SSR studio.

Food & Wine is a very popular time, but there is always chance you might find something at AKV or SSR. Since these are the bigger resorts they often have more availability.

I checked October 22-28 yesterday for my sister and brother-in-law. There was no availability at any DVC resort for the 24th or 25th (Friday or Saturday). Possible one might wait list for something to become available.

Plan on staying at SSR and if something else is available, great. You will be staying at all of the DVC resorts many times over so pace yourself, go with the flow and have a great time now that you have a pre-paid resort room each vacation.

We closed on our resale contract in November and booked a studio at AKL for March during F&G once we received our member information - about mid-November. No problem whatsoever.

March is not a high demand time- the problem the OP has is he is looking for something close during the highest demand time of the year for DVC.

As others have said, the end of January is a good time for last minute reservations. I closed on my sale at the end of December, was able to start booking around Jan 20th, and got a 1 bdrm at OKW for 4 days less than a week later to use some "holding" points that came with the purchase. It doesn't get much more last minute than that with DVC.

Sorry I have to say:

DW and I several times have been at DTD for the day and decided we wanted to stay the night. Called the resorts directly (back before MS was open on Sundays) or MS and checked in within 15 minutes.
At MK for the day in Feb ’14 for our anniversary, called MS @09:00, and booked a room at BLT for that night. Checked-in @11:00 and the room was ready. We did not plan on this day going like this until @05:00 while still in bed.

I was able to book MLK Weekend at AKV last September and waitlisted @ BWV. The waitlist came through in December. I didn't need to stay at BWV. I think it's a matter of putting in as soon as you get your info. Can't imagine you won't find something in January, and if you've got other dates in mind, just look.
