DH and I are taking the train for this trip. We are coming into Orlando (car rental place there) and we're wondering for anyone that has ever done this?

1) Are trains normally on time (or close to it)?

2) How is the drive from the station to WDW?

Thanks for any answers ^_^

I think you'll find more Amtrak riders on the Transportation board....I'll move this over there. :)

We have only done amtrak once, unfortunately our exp was not great. We were delayed 6 hours :(

as for the drive, we got a cab so sorry can not help you with that one.

We frequently use Amtrak for our WDW trips.....must fess up, most are late....it can be minutes, hours or a day....this past week we headed down 9-8 and after boarding in DC to head south the rails were washed out...trains south not moving...put us up in a hotel in DC and the next day they figured to charter bus around the disruption to Richmond Vir to get on board the train there....we lost the first night at WDW (they reembursed us though)...

So, anything can happen....Amtrak runs on CSX rails and they (freights) have preference....you can go to the Amtrak web site and look at the past preformance of you train...but you still never know what can occur once you're on board.....most have our trips ahve been okay but the worst always stand out....

Thanks for the answers. Ouch! I wouldn't mind being very late coming back, but going would drive me nuts!

I really hope that everything works out ok. If worse comes to worse, I guess DH and I can just get a rental car and drive down, but I hope it doesn't come to that :sad2:

Like I said, previous trips were pretty much on time to 30+ ,imutes late getting in....last was a bummer....more so for the wife.....she wanted the forst night in WDW....I go with the flow, not much else you can do......trains leave on time but lose minutes here and there but can and do make up some of the time......weather related issue this month was not Amtrak's fault but we passengers suffer the conquences.....plan for the worst but hope for the best....enjoy your trip!
