I have an AP from 4 years ago, and I am thinking about purchasing an AP this summer. I know that they have changed the policy to all the AP's are now paper and not plastic. If I went to guest services and paid for the with my old one AP can they change the date use this for my new AP?

I really do not like that they changed the AP to paper. Plastic ones are much less likely to get damaged.

when did they change to paper? DD20 and I upgraded our AP's at the beginning of December and we got plastic!:)

when did they become paper? i hadn't heard of this. (i didn't renew mine this year though.)

i don't think you can ever keep your old one. they always make a new pass for you. but they often use the same picture. different pass everytime though.

do you have to be an american citizen to obtain an annual pass? I will be down from canada three times this year and am interested in just doing an annual pass this time..

ashley17, anyone can get an annual passport. :) Since you (and I) don't live in southern CA, you are eligible for the Deluxe (currently 259 with some blockout dates, gives you 10% off most food) or the Premium (currently 379 with no blockout dates, gives you 15% off most food and 10% off most merchandise).

OP, we just got our APs for the first time in September, and they are plastic. I've read that WDW uses a paper/plastic polymer in theirs (or maybe that's just their tickets?), but I don't think DLR has changed.

And with the "paper" vs plastic debate, many people who like the polymer say they are far less likely to break as plastic might, or to get demagnetized. They have put them through the wash and they come out just fine. Of course, it's all statistics and anecdotal evidence, but I can't imagine the Disney corp would make something out of a material that they will have to replace more often.

On the other hand, if that's so, why are they using BOTH in various places? :upsidedow

I'm not 100% sure but I don't think it matters. I know that if you want a Southern California Annual pass, you have to live in CA. But for just a deluxe or premium, I wouldn't think it would matter.

But again, not 100% sure.

No, it definitely doesn't matter :) I'm from the UK and have an AP bought last summer. We won't get back to use it again :( but we did get 12 days use from it last year :yay:

WE got ours in July, they are plastic. My BFF just got one in January, her's is just like mine, plastic. :)
