Question about appetizers for 2 on the DxDP

I know I should already know this, but...

When using the DxDP, if the appetizer says for 2, does it count as 2 appetizers?

In other words, if DH & I order an appetizer for 2, is that the only one we get?

TIA!!

That's what I thought, but I was reviewing some menus and hoping not- LOL!!

Thanks!

just have to mention...sometimes that's what it means. But some of the Disney-owned restaurants are a bit flexible with that. For example, every time we have been to Mama Melrose and ordered the Calamari for 2 the waitress has insisted we can each get an appetizer even though the calamari says "for 2". We never have gotten 2 apps there, though, because it's a LARGE serving and plenty for 2 (or even 3 people.) We also were told we could get 2 apps at Turf Club...don't remember what the "for 2" app was, just remember debating whether we wanted more apps there.

Now the non-Disney-owned places like Via Napoli: no way will they make any exceptions.

at Sanaa, on the DxDDP we got the app for 2 per person. My daughters really enjoyed picking our of our plate LOL

It depends on where you're at. At Kona, we were able to get the sticky wings (for two) as one person's appetizer. At ESPN Club, two had to share the nachos (not a problem - they're big enough to be a meal for 4! :rotfl:). At Raglan Road we were told that the appetizers for two weren't DxDDP eligible even with two adults wanting to share one.

Your best bet is just to ask your server when you're ordering, because odds are it'll vary from place to place and possibly even from server to server.

There appears to be no "official" guideline on the subject. That is, nothing in the DDP or DxDP documentation describes how the plan is to be used with "for two" items.

Typically, you can expect that a restaurant will allow two guests to pool their entitlements to get a "for two" item. In some cases (and this appears to be based on the particular restaurant/server/phase of the moon/etc.) you will be told that a single diner can get the "for two" item. Many of the folks on the boards (including myself) have experienced this latter situation.

There are some more solid applications of this "rule". For example, at Via Napoli, it is basically a "known" that 2 adult guests can combine entree entitlements for the middle-sized pizza and 4 can combine for the largest-sized.

I think the "rule of thumb" is whether or not it is a Disney-owned restaurant. All the places listed above as having issues with "for 2" appetizers are NOT Disney-owned restaurants (Raglan Road, ESPN Club, Via Napoli are not owned by Disney, they are contract restaurants.) By the way, we have twice gotten the Dalkey Duo as an appetizer for two of us on the DxDP at Raglan Road. The server was careful to make sure we understood that the order would take both of our app.credits, but we were allowed to get it...most recently in Jan. 2011.

And yes, we enjoyed Turf Club. It was noisy & crowded (but that's true at most Disney restaurants) We LOVED the onion rings with the dips assortment....there was a key-lime dip in there that was outstanding. Good steaks, too.

So, looks like we will just ask each time or steal DS's app since he is 10 and not really into the apps even though he is an adult for DxDP!

We seem to always go to the same places each trip, and I was looking for some new ones to try. There were a couple apps for 2 that caught my eye, so I came to the experts here!

Thanks, everybody!

I am just curious why would you need each person to have an appetizer meant for 2 ppl?

Probably because each person has a desire to try something different.

DH loves Kona's wings but none of the other adults/over-10 kids in our family really like chicken wings in general, so no one really wants to give up ordering something that they do enjoy to share with him. I wish they'd just drop the whole "for two" idea, at least with appetizers where scaling the portion back is as easy as it is for wings or scallops or such, because we don't need "for two" quantity and have too diverse tastes to want to share very often.

I was able to get the "Cobb salad for 2" as an appetizer at Brown Derby in May '10. It didn't seem huge like it was meant for 2 people to eat so I assumed that they just gave me a single portion of it. Everyone else in our party ordered an appetizer as well and no one else got the Cobb.

Like others have said it depends. At mama melrosas and ESPN clubs the for two appetizers only count as 1. At 50s prime time they count as two apps. Those are the only places i have personal experience with.

There's an appetizer for two at Rose & Crown too. The waiter encouraged us to order one each.

The GF has a dessert platter for two that two people must order though and the appetizer for two at Coral Reef also takes two credits.
