Question about annual passes

I'm currently booked for Disney in march for a Disney vacation package with an 8 day hopper and free Disney dining. I'm also planning a December trip of about 8 days. I want to upgrade to the annual pass when I'm there in march so I have the park tickets for my December trip. Question is do I lose the free Disney dining if I upgrade to the annual pass when I'm there in march?

But you should probably wait until the end of your trip in March. There have been reports that upgrading to an AP when you're on the dining plan has a tendency to mess up the dining plan on your KTTW. It's not "unfixable" but it can be annoying to have to take the time out of your park day to have it remedied.

Double check for details in the Ticket sticky, section 7 (over in theme park attractions and strategies). about converting over to an AP. I have also been told that it is best to do it at the end of your trip in order to avoid possibly goofing up your dining plan. Be sure to have a face to face discussion with guest relations at some point during your trip.

Sometimes doing an upgrade to AP can mess up the Dining credits. There are two ways to get around this.

One is to have the Lobby Concierge remove your tickets from your KTTW and put them on separate cards. Then you can use the separate cards to do the upgrade.

The other is to upgrade one ticket at a time; then use the KTTW that was upgraded from for Dining. If it does not work, then use one of the other cards and have the problem corrected at your Resort.

And generally it is best to do the upgrade to AP as early in the trip as possible. This will allow you to take advantage of Passholder discounts.
