Hi! We have not even been DVC members for quite a year yet, have never been home yet, and I have been feeling the add on "bug" coming on. The problem is I am having trouble convincing my dh that he has the "bug" too.:p He swears he has none of the 'symptoms'. He He.:teeth:

I know there have been many threads here about add ons, however, I am still a little unclear on something. I know the experts here at the Dis will be able to help me. Thanks. We have 150 OKW points but I am thinking about getting more points at one of the sold out resorts, like the BCV or BWV. I know the BCV are difficult to come by and I know dh will not go for another 150 point resale contract. My questions is: Can I call my guide, if dh aproves, of course,;) and see if I can get on the waitlist for 50 -75 points at a different resort (BCV or BWV) than my original contract.(OKW) Is this considered an add on or does Disney not allow us to buy a small amount of points at a different resort? I hope this makes sense to everyone, sorry if I am confusing. If this is possible, I would try for my same use year to make this less complicated for myself.

Thanks everyone.

Yes, you can add-on small amounts at a different resort. We were on the waitlist for VWL for over two months with no luck. So, I called to ask we we could be put on the waitlist for all UY's....here's the catch. If you are doing a small add-on...you can only do that with the same UY as what you have. If you get impatient (like me) and want to try different UY's...you must buy minimum 150 points to do that.

So, I told DVC, "No, thanks...I really don't want that many points." And, then went and bought a 200 pt contract on the resale market...::yes::...and, we were just going to add on "65 or so points". Watch out....add-on-itis is a VERY dangerous disease!!!!

An add on is a contract that is purchased that has the same use year as your first contract. Disney will sell you an add on of as few as 25 points. If points are available, Disney will sell them to you from a sold out resort as an add on. With 50 or more points, Disney will also finance the purchase.

Have fun adding on.

Thanks Beca and HBC for such quick responses. That is good to know. Now, to get hubby's approval. :scratchin

We too are new and haven't even taken our first trip home, and I have basically the same question you have and the same "bug" ;) So, I hope you don't mind me adding a "rider" question to your original...

If you buy at a resort other than your first "home," lets assume same use year though for ease, do you get the total points you own to use at 11 month booking window at both resorts? If you don't, I would think adding only a small number somewhere else than your original purchase might not make much sense.

Just something else to make sure you, I mean we, understand before taking the add-on plunge ::yes::

Beca and HBC are right on here. You can get any number of add-on points you like, provided it's more than 25, and they have them in stock.

From our experience, we started with 240 pts BWV a couple of years ago, then determined we needed some more. After being on the waitlist for a few weeks this February, 65 more BWV points became available thru our guide, and we pounced on them (tho we really wanted 80). Then when the incentive for SSR came out this August, we added on the 130 SSR points, and got APs for the upcoming year (oh yeah!). And while I was on the phone with our most excellent Guide, I asked if there were, say, another 60 BWV points out there; there were and we bought them too. So now we're up to 365 BWV points (one for each day in the year) and 130 SSR. I hope 495 points will cover our family's WDW needs for a while.

The availability at the sold out resorts has been decent since late summer, as DVD has been excercising ROFR on a lot of resales, it seems. Certainly BWV points were nowhere to be seen for our UY for most of the year (we were lucky to get the 65 back in February), then August rolled around and there were plenty.

Char,

You only get the 11 month advantage at the place where you own the points.

For ex:

Say you have 150 pts at SSR, and you have 50 points at BWV. You only get the BWV "advantage" at 11 months for 50 points. Here's where the advantage comes in...you can bank and borrow those 50 points, and have 150 points every three years at BWV. That would work if you wanted to do something special every three years. That's one reason why people do small amounts.

First thanks everyone for your responses. Wow, pumpkinboy, that sounds great. I wish we could afford that many points, but the maintenance fees would kill us.:(

Beca: Congrats on your recent resale. That is great!!

Char: You do raise a good point. But, I figured we would do what Beca suggested and use the 50 points every three years or if we got 75, every other year at that resort. Then we would still have the other 150 from OKW to use during the off years, as long as we are happy with studios(we are a family of 3). I am sure sometimes, we would take a chance and wait for the 7th month period and combine points for a 1 bedroom.
