Question about a possible transfer/borrow scenario

I own at AKV and want to make sure I understand this scenario correctly.

Points remaining:
Dec 2012 UY: 19
Dec 2013 UY: 300

I am contemplating a reservation this summer at either BW, BLT, or VWL that would require an additional 31 or 67 points.

Other than a scenario where points expire prior to my booking date at any of these resorts, will I be unable to do so if the transfer would come from someone with a use year of 2013? (ie, if a owner from any other resort would transfer points to me with use year of 2013, will I be able to borrow from them if they fall after the booking date?).

I realize my booking priority will be based only upon my home resort, but I will be booking within that 7 month window, so that's out of the equation.

Points that are transferred into your account can not be borrowed. However, if you are traveling in the summer of 2013, what is most important is to get points that are valid for travel at that time.

There are several UY's that you could get 2013 points that would be eligible for booking the trip. Feb, March, April and June 2013 UY points would all be valid and you could secure a transfer of points with these UY's.

In addition, you could secure points from an Aug, Sept, Oct and Dec 2012 UY and use them for the trip.

All that really matters is that the points are valid for the time of travel. Your own UY and home resort play no role, expect for one thing--if you transfer in points with the same UY and home resort as the one you own, you should be able to see them online in your account.

If they are any other home resort or UY, you will not and you will only be able to use those points based on their rules. As you mention, since you are booking within the 7 month mark, home resort won't matter.

Transferred points cannot be borrowed. However, they can be banked.

Ideally you should look for someone with a December 2012 use year to transfer you the points you need.

If the points you find are from someone else's 2013 use year (any use year except December), MS should be able to put them in your 2012 use year. That assumes the points being transferred to you would be valid for your vacation dates if they had remained with the original owner.
