Question About 10 Day Pass Usage

Sounds like a good idea.

The HHN stuff at Universal doesn't impact the normal park-goer in meaningful way EXCEPT that the days of the party Studios closes early. There are structures built, but they aren't really scary in the daylight and there are no scare-actors out etc. IMO it's nothing to worry about.

You likely still have plenty of time (all possible discounts aren't even out yet for Universal onsite hotels, for instance) to switch things around. Are you posting on the Uni board to talk about that part of your trip?

I haven't even begun to focus on the Universal part of our trip.
My daughter wanted to be at Disney at the beginning of our trip so we could do the Halloween Party. And back at Disney at the end of our trip so she could do the Christmas party. First time for us for both parties. Middle of our trip was really the only place to put Universal. Thanks for the reminder though - I had forgotten there were boards dedicated to Universal stuff.

Because the CM on the phone told me that I had 14 days to use our pass (and she said 14+1) I decided to email Disney. Following are the responses I received. I know the folks on this board told me it was 13+1 but I'm wondering if I take the email chain (printed out) with me on the trip if they would have to honor it? Thoughts?

Original email from me to Disney:
Hello,
We purchased one of the 10 Day Tickets with Park Hopper option that was
offered at a special price to Canadians a few months ago. On the
tickets it says Tickets must be used within 14 days of first use.

So if we use the ticket for the first time on October 1st (as an
example) does the last use have to be on the 14th (so 1st day of use
plus 13 days) or can it be on the 15th (1st day of use plus 14 days).

Thank you.

They then responded:
Hello Beverly,

Thank you for contacting Walt Disney World Ticketing.

Unused, multiday Magic Your Way Tickets purchased prior to February 12,
2017 will never expire until used. They may be used on any day during
normal park operating hours and will expire 14 days after the date of
first use. First use occurs the first time a Magic Your Way ticket is
used for admission to a Walt Disney World Theme Park or other gated
attraction, if included on the ticket. The ticket is then valid for that
day of use and the next 14 calendar days or until fully used, whichever
comes first.

For information regarding park operating hours, attraction availability,
and entertainment offerings, please visit www.disneyworld.com or call
407-W-DISNEY (407-934-7639). Please know information is subject to
change without notice.

Sincerely,

Sooo, because I want to be absolutely clear I reiterate the question:
Hi Mark,

Thank you so much for your response. Apologies for bugging you again but I want to
make very sure I'm understanding clearly so I don't mess up the planning for our trip.

The ticket in question was purchased online on February 11, 2017.
It is a CAN Res. 10-Day Ticket with Park Hopper Option
The fine print says:

Item(s) are priced for Canada residents only. All Guests who will use Canada resident tickets or passes must present a Canadian passport prior to first use. If the Guest selects Will Call as the delivery method, the Guest must present a Canadian passport to exchange the Will Call certificate for a valid ticket at the theme park window or Guest Relations prior to first use. Tickets and any options purchased must be used within 14 days of first use. The first day of use must be on or before December 31, 2017.

Looking at a calendar for 2017. If we use the pass for the first time on Friday, November 27th then we can use the last of day of our 10 days on Friday, November 10th. So basically it's Day of Use Plus 14 days. Is this correct?

Thank you.

And this was their final response:
Hello Bev,

Thank you for contacting Walt Disney World Ticketing.

Based on the information you are providing, if you start your Disney world ticket on Oct 27th 2017 (Friday) your last day to use or upgrade your ticket would be 11/10/17 (Friday).

Should you have additional questions, please contact us again by replying to this message or calling 407-566-4985 option 5. Our office hours are 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. EST seven (7) days a week.

Sincerely,

Julie

Hello,
The 10 day pass I purchased says I have 14 days to use it from first use. Does that mean I have the day of 1st use plus 14 days. Or the day of use plus 13 days to use it? Does anyone know?

I didn't realize this limit (good thing I was reading the fine print). We have a split stay. 7 nights at a Disney hotel, then 4 nights at a Universal hotel and then 5 nights back at a Disney hotel. I have to figure out exactly how I'm going to make this work!

The first day you use it is day 1, so you have 14 days INCLUDING the first day.

Bad CM info is bad CM info.

It is infamous.

I'm wondering if I take the email chain (printed out) with me on the trip if they would have to honor it? Thoughts?

I know they are giving me bad information but do you think they would honor it based on the fact they gave it to me in writing?

They would not "have to" do anything.

WOULD they?
It depends on with whom you happen to be dealing, and/or how much you stomp your feet.

Since you want to do a Halloween party anyway I would put that at the beginning of your trip for day 1. You'll save yourself a ton of time arguing at Guest services. Honestly it just seems like it would be easier than trying to do battle over it. You get into the park at 4:00, the parties are awesome anyway. Have fun!

Thanks again for the feedback.
Our first day is actually the 26th and we are doing a Halloween Party that night.
We didn't want to do another on the 27th which is a Friday (anticipating heavy crowds). But thank you for that suggestion.
We are very much looking forward to the party. We are doing another party on the 29th and again on November 1st. We have never been, most likely will never be again, and it looks like so much fun. We are doing a Christmas Party on the last day of our visit which is November 10th which was the date I was concerned about. Just worried we might want to be in the park earlier in the day but then we have a Christmas party the night before as well which will be late. Sooo, I'm probably just being silly.

Oh that's awesome you're able to do both parties - We've done both several times, I prefer Halloween but both are wonderful. I've spent too much wasted time at Guest services fixing things, that's why I recommend avoiding it if you can. Hopefully it all works out for you.

It seems like you know the answer you've asked for but are looking for ways to get around it.

Either way, have a fun trip!

That's two CM who gave the same info. What email address did you use?

Is it possible the policy recently changed to give the extra day of use? If not, this is really bad training. I'm thinking you should, if possible, bring this up the chain, anyway. This type of really basic, yet extremely important, info must be given out correctly.

It was actually three CMs. One on the phone and the two on the email chain.
I guess though it's not worth the hassle of arguing the point for me with Disney. Everyone on this thread seems to be very sure the information that Disney is giving me is wrong and I respect that. These threads have been invaluable to me with all my trip planning. Absolutely LOVE having access to this resource and appreciate all the time folks put into moderating.

I just phoned Disney. I'm being told that I have the first day of use PLUS 14. For a total of 15. I hope that is correct. I asked the lady three times if she was sure and she assured me she was. Now why don't I trust it......

Disney cannot change the laws of mathematics. Fourteen equals fourteen.

Trust Robo.

It hasn't. A lot of CMs, even at the parks, don't understand that the 14 day usage window includes the first day of use.
There's really no excuse for CMs not understanding this. Given that the vast majority of visitors have never been on the DIS, or any other forum where they could get this information, they (understandably) rely on the information given by CMs.

Anyone who bought a multiday ticket, and told they would have 15 days to use it, to be denied admission on the 15th day, would be understandably furious.

This is the exact wording from Disney's website:

Multi-day tickets and any options purchased must be used within 14 days of first use, except for Florida Resident 3-Day and 4-Day Tickets.

...and yes, we all know the website often contradicts reality, but this seems pretty clear and is consistent with what everyone above has said, not what guest services has told you on the phone or by email.

I don't disagree, and this is one reason why I don't work in Guest Relations. They're the people I get to send all the "but they told me on the phone" situations over to.

One day I hope to be high enough up in training & development to try and correct the massive inconsistency in information that happens so often, but it won't be anytime soon, unfortunately.

One thing to remember is that UK 14 day tix is valid for 15 days of admission. The 14 day count starts after the first day. It's been well documented and tested by many UK visitor and has been like that for years.

Would be interesting if US tickets has changed to work in a similar way although it doesn't look like it based on the feedback here.

"Within 14 days of first use" is actually ambiguous, hence the confusion.

Imagine something said "Within one day of first use." If I used it at 5pm on Monday for the first time, I would expect to be able to use it at 9am on Tuesday.

"Within one day of first use" is not quite the same as "valid only the same day of first use"

The same logic can be applied for any number of days.

It would be so much clearer if they changed the terms to something like "tickets are only valid for fourteen consecutive days, starting with day of first use, and entitlements not used within those fourteen days are forfeit"

By definition there's nothing ambiguous about "within 14 days of first use." The definition of within is "inside; inside the range of; not further off than; occurring inside; inside the bounds set by."

Same as "within one day." If you use it Monday, that's your ONE day. Using something at 5pm Monday, and again at 9am Tuesday would be "within 24 hours" or "within two days" - those two days being Monday and Tuesday.

Sorry I disagree.

If today is Monday, and your boss tells you to get this back to them within 3 days, most people would say it was due on Thursday.
If they said get it back to me within a day, most people would believe it was due the next day, not the same day.
