We were up very early on our last day to finish packing and check out by 11am. I took photos of all the rooms, the pool and lake area while Graham checked the group out. We weren’t in a hurry so we sat around by the pool for a while enjoying the sunshine. Roger lent me a quarter so I and Scott could buy some turtle food from the vending machine type thing on the boardwalk. For a while all we could see were hundreds of fish violently competing for each speck of food but finally an enormous turtle appeared from the murky water. It was fantastic seeing such an amazing creature in the wild and so close up, soon all 5 of us were stood together on the boardwalk watching the graceful creature eat.

We said our final goodbyes to Summer Bay and drove to Downtown Disney. We did our final bits of shopping and spent probably about the same amount of time trying to fit our new purchases into the suitcases. We decided to drive to the Florida Mall but I needed to do a quick revisit to Pointe Orlando to pick up a book I’d spotted last time that I wanted for my niece. We grabbed the book and some pictures of the giant teddy before heading on to the Mall. We ate in the food court and had a final walk around. Scott bit the bullet and bought a t-shirt he’d had his eye on, he also picked up a Bad Taste Bear in a weird shop full of strange figurines for his collection. I’d intended to buy another sub from Subway for the plane but they were out of beef which was highly annoying. Scott bought us both cheesecakes from Chick-Fil-A instead. By now it was time to leave so we put Orlando behind us as we headed up the road to Sanford.

By now we were on the reserve fuel and getting rather paranoid about whether we’d make it to the airport. Luckily we rolled the car into the drop off zone before we ran out, it was there problem now! The queue at check in was surprisingly long so we stood watching kiddies run about whilst me and Scott enjoyed our cheesecakes, the others now wishing they’d got them too! We were seated together on the plane and given window seats as we requested. The plane was delayed by a few hours but we didn’t mind. Me and Scott got burgers and fries in the departure lounge before doing a circuit of the shops. We found a shop selling cheap Disney and Universal merchandise. I bought a plastic Home on the Range cow figurine for my niece who was going through a cow phase and Scott bought a 12” Spongebob cuddly toy. The look on his parents’ face when we arrived back at our seats with that was a picture!

At one point the boys had all wandered off when I heard our names being announced over the tannoy. I told Linda who went off to find them and they all went up to the information to desk to find out what the problem was. For some reason our seats had been changed, no problem. When the flight was finally called we went up and were directed upstairs, we’d managed to get a free upgrade somehow. Needless to say we weren’t complaining! This was my eighth plane journey and up to now I’d never been sick on a plane. Well this time I made up for it and threw up about every 15 minutes for the entire journey home. It ruined my appreciation of Sunshine Upper but the others said it was wonderful having the quiet and extra legroom. Legroom has never been an issue for me as I’m so short, I can stretch out quite well in even the most cramped of cattle class, but I was happy that they could relax more. The best thing about it for me was having the bin to store your bags at ground level by the window instead of above us. Normally I’m forever asking whoever’s on the end seat to get my stuff for me, this way I didn’t have to.

We landed at Manchester and got through customs quickly. Our taxi was waiting for us and asked us if we’d had a good time as he drove us back to Leeds. Linda, Graham and Roger left after about an hour of getting back as they wanted to get back home to Lincoln. After we’d waved goodbye we went straight to bed and crashed out for a few hours. Totally knackered but happy after a wonderful holiday!

Thanks for sharing your first trip to the World. Bet it won't be your last. Keep on writing. You have the knack.

Sad day when that dreamed about holiday comes to an end. Do you think you had a spot of food poisoning on your journey back or was it definitely the plane, sounds nasty whatever it was.

Lucky you getting a free upgrade.
