Has anyone here tried Queasy Beads? I found them on Etsy because I was looking for something similar to Sea Bands that weren't so thick (tan lines being one reason, and the fact that they aren't very cute for another). If they work I want to get my mom a pair. Some of the rides at WDW tend to make her head spin and then she's dizzy for a couple of hours after. :(

Ive had friends use them, some swear by them, others don't have any luck. I think they sell for about 10.00 so why not give it a shot. I use Gravol Canadian version of Dramamine. I feel for your mom I get that way with spinning rides, coasters NP...Good Luck!

if you remember Myth Busters, they did a show on sea sickness - Ginger worked! Ginger candy (its sugared) pickled ginger, ginger snap cookies, ginger ale - and you can buy ginger pills... and of course dramamine

I just suck up the sea band look. They have helped me through air travel, car travel, rides. They aren't fail proof... A bad landing still makes me feel ill, but I have noticed a big difference. Who cares what you look like if you are nauseous? Plus, magic bands are a perfect disguise!

She has patches, but is afraid to use them because of the side effects. I looked these up because she's kinda funny about how things look, or if they're hot/binding etc. She would use them all the time (car rides etc.) if I could just get her to wear them lol! We have tried ginger in the past when we went deep sea fishing, it did help her... Me not so much lol.

The older I get, the more motion sickness-prone I am. I can make it through most rides, but in some instances, I can't wait for the ride to be over and I don't want to feel like that. I bought some Bonine because I read that it doesn't make you as drowsy as Dramamine (although, those types of meds/antihistamines usually have the opposite effect on me) and I tested it out a couple of weeks ago at home. I was fine for about 3 hours and then I became VERY sleepy. I felt drugged the rest of the day and even felt a little off the next day. Even if I got used to it, I don't think I'd feel comfortable drinking alcohol while taking it, so I think that's out! LOL So, I went to Whole Foods and bought some ginger pills. I haven't tried them yet, but I think they'll be the better option for me. I've read that sea bands and those types of products are really hit or miss.

I use ginger pills and they definitely work for me. I start taking them a couple of days before we leave and I take one with each meal for the entire trip.

My husband rides anything and everything. On a recent trip to Disneyland, he got a little queasy after Indiana Jones and Space Mtn back-to-back. He has never gotten motion sickness before. But I was fine!

I'm a long time sufferer of motion sickness and it's pretty bad. At disney world, I don't have much trouble. I take meds before some rides and avoid others. I've never had luck with non-medicinal remedies. You just don't want your park day to be ruined because someone gets sick on a ride! I'm also a registered nurse.

  • Regular dramamine: I prefer this for the 'heavy duty' rides. I.e. rides that I KNOW will make me sick without medication. Examples are: space mountain, expedition Everest, and rock n' roller coaster. The side effects really aren't that bad - similar to benadryl. Drowsiness isn't bad as long as you keep moving.
  • Less drowsy dramamine: This is a great alternative if you're concerned about side effects. This medication (meclizine) has less drowsiness associated with it. However, you only take it every 12 hours and I feel that it's less strong than the original. This is a great option for all day coverage if you get queasy at times. I often take this as a general coverage on a cruise or other activity that requires less control of my motion sickness.
  • ginger: This has been shown to help but I don't feel like it packs the same punch as medication. However, I do drink ginger ale (contains ginger) when I'm at the parks oftentimes and especially after getting off coasters.
  • Patches: This is SUPER heavy duty. This is for someone who has severe motion sickness. This works very well but the side effects aren't pleasant. Dry mouth, blurry vision, drowsiness to name a few. I use this on cruises when we have rough water or flights. This is prescription and must be obtained from a doctor.
  • Nausea meds: medications like phenergan or zofran are good for treating nausea once it happens but not preventing it. I also carry these around with me at the park. These are also Prescription stregnth and must be obtained from a doctor.

Thanks, everyone! I will definitely be getting the both of us some ginger... I'm usually ok on rides, but better to be on the safe side ;) I have taken it before, but didn't realize I should have taken them a few days leading up to the event, that was probably where I messed up! I will also be getting her some less drowsy dramamine, too. It's only me and her on this upcoming trip, and I don't like to ride coasters or anything like that by myself lol! I used to take phenegran for nausea (gallbladder), but had no idea it helped with actual motion sickness!

I've tried it all and the only thing that works is the patch (transdermal scopolamine). It has SAVED my vacations. The side effects are no big deal. I drink lots of water anyway at WDW so the dry mouth isn't an issue. Blurred vision is a problem mostly if you touch the patch and then touch your eyes (and even then it affects your near vision). I'll take ANY of those over the puke feeling that ruins my whole day.

She has the patch, but is afraid to use it because she only has vision in one eye. I don't really know how blurry vision would effect her because of it. She is far sighted, so maybe it wouldn't bother her too bad.
