Quartz vs. marble countertop

We just remodled our bathroom, and a few weeks after installing our new vanity and countertop, the sink fell out of the marble counter. The store where we bought it is standing behind us, and the company that manufactured the unit is co-operating very well too. That being said, the unit could not be repaired in our home, so today, they replaced it with a quartz countertop and sink. We were told that it is an upgrade, and perhaps it is. I don't know. I do know that I like the idea of having a maintenance free counter top. But this is the first time I've considered quartz. They didn't want us to be with out a counter and sink, so they installed the closest colour counter they had in stock, with the understanding that if we don't like it they will fix up the old marble counter and reinstall it. The new counter seems to match the cabinet better than the old, and it looks ok. It just isn't marble, and I'm not sure if we should ask for the old counter back. Would you prefer quartz to marble?

I would definitely prefer quartz to marble.

From watching home improvement TV shows, I understand that the quartz countertops of today are more expensive than granite, and demanding customers are asking for them instead of granite. When you say your countertop was marble, was it real marble or cultured marble? In any case, I've seen real marble kitchen and bath countertops over time and they attain dirt stains, water rings and other things that don't seem to come off. And they need regular treatment to ward off stains because they are absorbent. Your quartz countertop should be pretty much impervious to everything and stay nice. The question to you is, does the new countertop match the decorating theme you were going for? If so, I would keep it.

Definitely the quartz.

We had quartz counters put in during our kitchen renovation and I love them. Moving to a new house next month and the only thing I'm really going to miss are the counters. (New house has grey solid surface)

We have a marble topped bar, and if you don't wipe up any spills right away, it will get stains and water marks. I would get quarts for a bathroom!

How long did you have your marble counter top?

We have quartz in our kitchen - and I love it!

I would NEVER have put marble anywhere. Too much maintenance!

I'm with the others. I love our marble in our kitchen and would prefer it over marble.

We totally gutted our bathroom, we had the bench seat and curb wrapped in Quartz, I love Quartz :) The window looks like its in the shower but its just a reflection ;)

we are remodeling. Nothing looks like real marble. We are still debating, but probably going with real marble for master bath double vanity.
