A few issues w/ some of the websites being out of commission at the office today, but not a complete waste of the day so that's good. Anyone else having any problems? Things like this always give me pause in terms of just how much we depend on technology. Anyways, hope everyone had a nice weekend, we did. Weather was nice, although it sure did get windy late yesterday afternoon & overnight. I think it's still a bit blustery. We got our firewood racks up on the side of the house and our first pallet of wood stacked up and waiting for it to cool off enough for the first fire of the season. Also picked up a pallet of wood pellets for the stove in the basement, so that chore is done. Looks like I can go another week or two w/ the big mowing so hopefully the weekend of Halloween I can do my last big mow and maybe just do the yard one or more times after that.

Judique - sorry to hear about your friend & neighbor passing, how nice so many of her family could be near.

Mona - how goes things? Making any progress in getting outta that place?

Pea - good luck w/ the next week of treatments.

Chicken wings for dinner this evening, a request of my husband, so I think I'll sneak out of here a bit early & go grab them and a RX I have waiting for me at the pharmacy. I have a few roasts in the freezer, I'm thinking of getting one out and making it this weekend. Speaking of the weekend, at this point I don't really have much planned and I'm looking forward to that being the case!

Take care all, have a good week.
Thanks - I'm really feeling a sense of loss and change.

Web issues = AWS (Amazon) or Aint Working Services.

A lot of universities had problems yesterday. Disney had early morning problems.

Yes, it gives pause as we are stuck in limbo usually with no alternative. And then there's that sneaky AI technology. I hate it as it impairs every search I do with its interpretation of what I want, obscuring details that I may find important.

Judique So sorry about your friend and neighbor passing. Nice that her family was with her when she passed. Your are right about being in limbo when the web has major issues and AI does present many problems in addition to the many ways it can help.

Pea Glad the family had a nice birthday celebration for your DD and DS. It was nice of you to buy some clothes for the little ones. That is always fun to do. And that you get to spend time with them. Take care.

Footballmouse I hope your car is better soon. Car problems are so frustrating.

Lynn I am sorry to hear that Summer is again having car problems. It seems like they need one reliable car. Hopefully they can get their finances more stable at some point and get what they need. I am sorry she had to put her dog to sleep. That is a tough one. Thank you for helping the doggie cross over to find peace.

Good morning. It is 49 now with temps heading to the low 60s. I am at the end of the cold where it just sticks around with the cough and drip. So annoying. Salt therapy did help a bit. I plan to walk today at a park the next town over that has an asphalt walking track around soccer fields. I like that it is open and easy to manage. It is where the grandkids play soccer. I am watching the air traffic controller issue with the shutdown. If I don't feel comfortable flying next month I will cancel, take a credit for the trip as I have insurance that will give me a full credit towards another trip, and reschedule. I do not want to get stuck in Phoenix or feel unsafe traveling.

Off to work. Have a good day.

Happy Tuesday!

Well, I didn't get good news yesterday from my mechanic. I need a new engine 😭 . I was looking at trading it in and getting a newer used car but with mine needing an engine, I wouldn't get anything for it. I had new brakes put on it this past spring so I figure a new engine and I'll have him put new tires on too, I'll have a new car by then.

Back to work, just wanted to give you an update. Have a great day!

Thanks @Snowysmom
I was just texting with my son about some of the highlights of the life they shared. They met and married very early 20ties. Had 3 kids and 2 out of three very successful. Third has had some struggles but was always supported. A lot.

Worked hard and did well. Traveled a bit. Had wonderful friends. Some of their friends have become my friends. In fact on a couple of my trips, one friend went with me as they had a workaholic husband or should I say a husband with extensive job commitments.

Followed their faith and lived a life one could be proud of. Helped and were generous quietly. Being so close I saw this.

Anyway, I had you going to Disney in my mind but now remember it was Phoenix from your post. For Disney I was going to say Amtrak is an option. Well, at least here it is an option.

I always have in my mind that I could do the Autotrain in a sleeper car. I'm 30 minutes from it. Or even if I had to get back when I'd already driven down. It's a viable alternative. It's probably going to get booked sooner or later.

Meanwhile, I'm back on the 'new car' kick. Nothing wrong with my car. I just want to waste a whole lot of money on a new one.

It may happen before 2026. Not this week. I'm set on another hybrid.

Anyway stay tuned if you are interested. I'm checking websites daily. With winter approaching one of my top features is a heated steering wheel. May sound silly but it's been on my last two and I don't like to go backwards. I've just found it's not randomly on most models but on specific ones. Leather and heated seats also but much easier to find. Safety features are much more standard now where everything beeps at you. I've gotten used to this and not going back. Drove DD's 2013 Honda and no beeps! Good thing I was super careful.

Good frosty morning, was 35 and brrr when I got out from under the warm covers. I'm procrastinating turning the heat on, it's too early. Going to be sunny and 66 today, but tomorrow when the temp only reaches 55, the heat may go on. I don't want to catch a cold saving a few $ in gas.

Summer called me after dinner. My oldest grandson was driving home from a wedding, swerved to avoid a deer, and ended up in a ditch. A friend was following in another car and they managed to get the car out of the ditch. He drove it home, but by the time he got there it was overheating. Apparently it damaged the radiator and who knows what else under the front end. He wasn't hurt at all, which we are thankful for. Being a brand new car, he has full coverage, but for some reason doesn't want to use it for fear of rising insurance rates. So he's either going to pay for it himself, or they'll total it and he'll have to start all over again.

He couldn't get to work yesterday. so Summer decides she'll drive him to Manassas VA, 2 1/2 hours away. They got 13 miles from the house, and she could smell the same thing she smelled when she took hubby to Ohio. She pulled over, and transmission fluid was spewing all over the road again. The tow truck driver had just gotten to the dealership with grandsons car, and had to turn around and go to get hers. She had them leave it at the garage across the street. They examined it and said it was something about the lines going to the transmission. They're old and one decided to burst. They told her replacing one isn't a good idea, the others are old too, and if 1 new one builds up pressure, it could take out the others. She got the car and drove it home and the same guy who fixed her brakes and ball joints is going to replace them for her. It cost her $172 for the 4 lines and a gallon of transmission fluid.

I told her to have grandson rent a car for the week and get himself to work. He's 25 and has a good paying job as a lineman, but they get sent all over the place for work.

She's also got more health problems. She has a new PCP who is actually paying attention. Dr thinks she has either COPD or emphysema, or possibly lupus and has her scheduled for all kinds of tests this week. Her oxygen level is only 92. The only thing I said to her was 'quit smoking'. If she didn't learn from her father dying because of cigarettes, she's never going to learn. She not only still smokes, but also vapes. :rolleyes2

Thanks if you're still following the saga, lol

Off to clean the fridge, take out trash, and make my grocery list.

Have a good day

Lynn Sorry to hear that Summer is still dealing with difficult health issues. Quitting smoking and vaping will definitely help. I hope she gets the care she needs.

Judique Good luck with the new car kick.

Good morning. It is 53 now with temps only go to around 60 today. It is supposed to be rainy all morning and then clearing up in the afternoon. Today the heating company is coming for yearly maintenance on my furnace and hot water heater. Tomorrow I am having the water softener system installed. It took me awhile to come to the decision to do it but we do have hard water, about midline hard. It is supposed to help keep the appliances and pipes in good shape to last longer and shower water should be better for my skin and hair. Since I moved in here and used well water I feel like my hair and skin have gotten dry and itchy. I added a filter to the showers but it was only marginally better. I can also save on soap and shampoo as you only need to use a little bit. I talked with my friend who is going to Sedona with me. She thinks all will be fine with air travel but I am still keeping my options open. Her sister is very ill in another state so she may need to go there for a while. She really wants to go on the trip but I did tell her we can always reschedule.

Have a good day.

Good morning! It's claiming 50 degrees here also, but going up to 66 degrees.

I've already had my heat on but turned it off again. It's 70 in here from yesterday still. I actually opened windows yesterday afternoon. I had been outside using a herbicide to try and kill some Tree of Heaven (don't be fooled by it's name) that is trying to grow into my foundation. If allowed to continue it can cause serious problems.

Anyway the chemical was resealed and I walked inside with it. Within minutes I could smell it indoors and so could DD. Opened windows and transferred it to my shed. Just for the time being as I do not want to store this stuff anywhere on my property. Anything that smells that bad through a closed cap is not for me, but temporarily it has a job to do and I may have to reapply. Later I will look for a container to put the container in. Will also search my property for any more of these plants and try to get rid of them as they multiply fast. Stuff just grows around here.

The funeral is at the local catholic church on Friday. My son and I will attend. Not looking forward to it.

Meanwhile my DD's car is getting detailed down the street. They kept it overnight so the shampooed carpets could dry.
I will pick it up later and she will drive my car in to her work.

Meanwhile a storm (Melissa) is in the Caribbean that may become a hurricane. Hopefully not but if it does please stay away from Florida and my path there and home. I don't like wind and rain while traveling/driving. But, if it becomes anything it looks to me like one positioned to head into the Gulf.

Sorry about the car issues. I've never had an engine go but have dealt with two transmissions going out when my kids were regularly driving my cars in their younger days. One was my sons car and he was ready for college so I wasn't about to fix it. It wouldn't go backwards so he drove it locally to school and his Walmart job, parking it always so he could drive forward. When he went to college (in Massachusetts) I gave it away.

@PollyannaMom , your pictures are so pretty!
We are at Disneys HHI, and yesterday we met friends from Delaware for lunch, they are in a different time share. They are the reason we are here. Our tradition is for one couple to take the Cape May Lewes ferry and we meet in either Cape May or Lewes each summer and enjoy lunch together. This summer I had to cancel the date just on the morning we were to meet, So, when we learned they would be in HHI, I was so lucky to be able to book this visit, so we could see them.

The resort recently put in an elevator in one of the cottages that only had steps. Our villa is in that building. This is the view from our balcony.

We rented bikes, an adult trike for me! I enjoyed some exercise riding around yesterday.

It’s not quite swimming weather, but today I hope to enjoy the pool for a bit because it is heated. We’ll see, it’s supposed to be a bit warmer.

Tomorrow we drive to Emporia VA, and Friday we will take the ferry home.

@Judique, I am sorry for your loss of a neighbor and friend.

@Pea-n-Me that Gingerbread house is adorable!

@easyas123, I hope you find another position that fits just right!

Good morning. It's 44 now but our high will only be 56. I was almost ready to go to bed last night, when I heard the porch swing banging. I thought it was the cats jumping onto it, but when I opened the door to look, I found out that the winds were whipping around like crazy. I looked out the back door and one of the deck chairs was already on the other side. I grabbed my sweater and by the time I opened the door to go out and move them, it was dumping down rain. I took the cushions off and put both chairs on top of each other and grabbed a 4x4 piece of wood that I keep on the side of the house and put it on the seat so the wind couldn't move it. I went down to check the trash and one of my bags was halfway in the street, so I moved them closer to the bank and hoped that they would stay there. They did, and I heard the trash truck at 5:30 picking up the trash.

Summer texted me yesterday that she was using Lily's new jeep to take the grandson to work. So if something happens to Lily's car, they'll all be up the creek. She should have insisted that he rent a car. She told her mother that I paid for the dog to be put down, and got no response. Then she told her about the truck issues and her mother's comment was "That's too bad, you better get it fixed, I don't have the money to help you out." And then, proceeds to say that she's going to rent a house in Kentucky for a few months out of the year. I am so done with her, to the point that I removed her from my list of contacts and blocked her phone number (the mother, not Summer, lol)

I don't normally watch DWTS but last night was Wicked night, so I watched, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Heading out to do errands shortly, I'll decide if I need to put the heat on when I get back. The cats are all asleep on comfy blankets so they're fine.

Have a good day
