Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Good morning. Sunny now, calling for storms this afternoon. Kitchen walls are all done, and most of the bottom trim. Just the 5 windows and the entry way trim needs to be done (plus the ceilings of course). I spent awhile after she left going around and cleaning up paint spots. She's tired, and she still has 3 more rooms to go, plus trim and ceilings. How can someone who does this for a living work like this? Beyond my understanding, lol

I got the lawn mowed, again. Every 3 days with this crazy weather. Garden needs planting, herb garden needs planting, and now I have to paint the house trim and foundation, spray the front porch chairs, paint the front porch swing. The carpet on the porch also needs to be replaced, waiting for Dave to have the time to do it. Also need to weed and mulch all the flower beds. List gets longer no matter how many things I cross off. And Don tells me to take the day and relax? Easy for him to say! I'm tired!

On the plus side, I decided I want a new stove, after 22 years, I think I deserve one. lol. I want one with the built in air fryer, convection oven and steam cleaning. If I find one today, it could possibly be here by tomorrow. I'll give our other one to the painter. She just bought a house, and has been cooking on a 1 burner hot plate. (nothing really wrong with our old one,, except the button to change the clock time has to be pressed in a certain spot to work.). This is the one exciting spot to my whole week, lol!

Off to clean the bathrooms and strip and remake the bed, before deciding which project to start next.

Have a nice Saturday, reminder for anyone into horse racing--the Preakness is today!

Lynn…. Speaking of ovens, we bought one almost 2 years ago. I used the self cleaning for the first time recently ( just spot cleaned before). I had company and went to put my quiche in the oven and it wouldn’t turn on. Called the repair man where we bought it and he came out. They had to pull the oven out( it’s a built in). The enclosed fuse was blown. He said not to ever use the self cleaning. So I said, “you mean I paid for a feature I can’t use, why does it come with it”. He said that they should not, but then people wouldn’t buy it.😡So $400 later…….

I've been looking at the air fryer stoves as well. Nothing wrong with my 10 year old stove. It's not even dirty as it had a thorough cleaning just recently, pulled out, ran the self clean, etc. I have the Ninja air fryer and it works great but it is so difficult to keep it clean.

Makes me wonder how an air fryer oven would work? Even with self clean would it be a beast to keep clean? Would I have to be constantly running the self clean cycle?

Happy Saturday Good Morning 🐣

Lynn 🛋️📺📚rest! Please :)

All this oven talk reminds me of the importance of making sure any appliances, especially those using gas, are safe. Dad and I so many years ago, were standing in front of his ancient stove/oven waiting for brownies to finish baking when we either smelled burning or saw smoke. I don't remember which. This was over 25 years ago. Dad made the mistake, don't ever do this, of opening the oven door. The oven blew up! It didn't busrt into flames on the outside. It did explode onside. Grace and Mercy of God, I sure pray to have lived in extra thanks to Him for another day all the more after that happened, the two of us and Champ were perfectly fine. Dad's eyebrows did get singed. The owner of this building at that time wanted to repair the oven:scared1:Dad ended up paying for the majority of the cost of a discounted new one. This experience is absolutely a huge reason why God willing should dad and I be able to afford to move, at the top of our new home list would be a building that is up to today's code and maintained in all ways! Stay safe in all ways!

Quiet Saturday here. We are going to decide on our craft project. I'll share what we go with later :)

Saturday :grouphug:to all. I will check back later.

I'm not sure either, I'll let you know when I find out, lol. I went with a Maytag. Weird thing I've found out. No new ranges come with owners manuals, and apparently there is very little information online as to them either. This should be very interesting. It will be here Wednesday. This is also something odd, since I bought a new cord to be delivered at the same time, they will hook it up for free, but if I wanted to just keep my old cord, or bought a new one at the store, or someone gave me a new one (Dave has 3 of them in his appliance section of his garage, lol) and had it here, they would charge $32 to hook it up? It's the same amount of work either way, what difference would it make. lol. All my other appliances are Maytag, so we stuck with the same brand.

Just a quick good morning, coming off a work stretch! Off to pick out and buy new flooring for the bathroom today!

Our room is coming along. Working on trim and painting windows and bookcases. Old rug is up. Have to clean and paint the floor before new carpet squares go down. That won’t be until bathroom is renovated so they don’t get dirty dragging nasty stuff out of the bathroom. (Pedestal sink out already, working on getting whole floor up. Toilet will have to be disconnected and washer and dryer have to come out temporarily, too.) But it’s looking pretty good! I bought a runner already for the new floor leading from the outside door into the new space.

Someone I know had a major house fire from using the self-cleaning mode on the stove after a holiday dinner. :scared1:
I don’t use mine.

I hope everyone has a nice Saturday! 🐥

Dad was just saying yesterday, Lynn, how these days manuals for products are slim to non existent indeed. Please do stay appliance and in all ways, of course, stay safe, all of you!

Pea:hug:always good to see you. Wishing you a relaxing weekend! How scary :( I'm so sorry that happened to whoever you knew. Prayers they and their family were okay!

@dazedx3 Thanks for the oven cleaning warning. I have never used that feature. Chris cleaned the oven and did it the old fashioned way. I don't cook much any more so my new stove and oven should stay spotless for a long time. In my old condo the woman who owned it before me must not have cooked much either as it was spotless when I moved in and I left it the same when I moved out. The new owner is getting a very gently used stove and oven.

@flyingdumbo127 Scary story about the oven. Glad you were both OK.

@lynxtch Congrats on the new stove. I hope the rest of the painting goes well.

Kenny, the kids, and I went to the Museum of Science today. It was a nice time out. The kids like certain exhibits. There is a new one about Mazes and Labyrinths. I was still able to solve the mazes they had on the walls so my brain is still somewhat functional. I do not go into mazes and try to find my way out. I have never liked them and will never. Canobie Lake Park used to have a house of mirrors maze which I did once or twice and refused after that. The kids love to have lunch at the cafe and buy a little toy or the astronaut ice cream on the way out.

The other day when I was out walking I met an attack butterfly. I was just walking up the hill when out of nowhere a butterfly flew from my right side, right in front of my face almost hitting my nose, and then flying off across the street. I guess he or she wanted to be noticed.

Tomorrow Sam turns one. His family party will be next month most likely. Jeff and family are straight out this weekend with birthday parties. His kids have lots of friends who seem to have May birthdays so it is a busy month. I will be alone tomorrow so trying to plan out my day. I will work a bit, go to Home Goods, maybe pick up a coffee and scone at the local coffee shop. I will do my walks.

I did some reading on cruise critic about solo cruising. Alot of people do it and get used to it. They gave some tips. Next year I will go on a cruise with Kenny and kids. After that I would like to do one out of Boston that goes to Canada. My friends are not interested in going. First I will see how my solo trip to WDW goes. There was a sticker in the gift shop at the museum that said, I would rather be on Mars. I kind of feel that way lately. Now that would be a trip.

Have a good evening.

I decided to work in the garden. I already see lots of leaf lettuce coming up, and I only planted it 3 days ago. I tilled 3 rows again, for the tomatoes, and got 32 plants into the ground. Finished in rain, but now the sun is out again. I got the tiller back out and let the good neighbor next door use it for his garden. He was trying to do it by hand, and that takes forever. He was very glad for the assist. I'm making chef salad's for dinner, too tired to do anything else. I had to take a really hot shower when I came in, I was soaked from the cold rain. I'm going to watch the Preakness and then relax the rest of the night.

As to a self cleaning oven. We bought our old stove in 2021. The first time I used it, the gasket around the door melted. They came and replaced it immediately. I've used it 3 or 4 times a year since then and never had any issues. The new one has hidden elements, which makes it much easier to clean. I may not need the self cleaning feature, but it will be nice to have.

Have a great evening everyone!

This day has felt sort of timeless here. Grateful dad did stay home and how blessed we are to have another Saturday together in health. We did watch the last half of a When I think of Christmas. We both most enjoyed Sara's mother Anna and her boyfriend George the most. It's always touching to me having positive older/extra family and friends in these movies. Of course, as I posted earlier, in the Hallmark movie thread, I loved hearing O Holy Night and O Come Ye All Faithful. Beautiful reminders to me that Christmas is every day. Thanks be to God!

Snowysmom, extra hug, my friend. I'm truly glad you, Kenny, and your grandkids had another fun museum trip. I'm 100% with you on both house of mirror type attractions and not wanting to be stuck in a maze. I have though always been good at figuring out mazes (kids puzzle book type mazes). Happy Birthday to Sam tomorrow:cake:Brighter and happier days ahead prayers always to you:grouphug:

Lynn, please have a warm, cozy evening, and just maybe, at last take a day off tomorrow? You can do it:donald::)

Good evening. Miserable wet and chilly day here today.

Another busy week in the books but things will start to slow down now. Anthony's team sadly lost their 1st playoff game so his season is finished with school. I felt bad for the seniors who had such high hopes but Anthony has 3 more years to get a shot for the championship. Wyatt has his last game this week. I feel so bad that I have missed his season but promised to be at the game. His last game he was hit by a pitch twice and made the other team pay by stealing 2nd and 3rd both times. At his level they can't steal home. He can't wait til he gets old enough for that.

Ella's team is doing great and now has a 3-0 record. They have 2 games left. She had her 8th grade dance last night. I wasn't fond of her dress as I didn't think it was flattering to her but she liked it. She did tell me she had a great time and showed me the pictures. It did look like she had a wonderful time. I feel kind of sad for her because after this year it may be harder to stay with her best friends. One is moving, only a 15-minute drive away but in another city, and the other is going to a different school. I hope they can stay friends as they get on so well together. Sadly life changes as we pass milestones in life. I can't believe that she is going to graduate in just a couple of weeks and is moving on to high school. She has volleyball playoffs tomorrow.

We had the Spring Tea at church and even though there were some no shows we had a decent turn out. I enjoy the tea BUT since I am selling the raffle and 50/50 tickets I get no time to sit and socialize. It was really difficult today because I only had Ella to help. We did raise $500 from the chances so that will go to something for the youth. I brought some of the tea sandwiches home and am somewhat thankful I didn't eat them at the tea. One sandwich had baby shrimp in it. If I had any doubts about a seafood allergy before, I don't now. I only had a small bit of the sandwich but began itching almost immediately. Thankfully Benadryl resolved it quickly. I know now I need to be super careful.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

On the plus side, I decided I want a new stove, after 22 years, I think I deserve one.
Yes, you do! Ours is 29 years old, we're hoping that it will last until we update our home in the next couple of years. It's a Whirlpool.
He said not to ever use the self cleaning.
We've been told that too, that it's a fire hazard. Ours is a built in and I've used the self cleaning a time or too. It gets so hot and now because of it's age I wouldn't do it anyway.
After that I would like to do one out of Boston that goes to Canada.
Joe's sister organized one of those cruises for a family reunion the last week of August into the first week of September. A lot of family members were knocked out immediately because of school age children so only eight family members are going. I don't know why anyone would plan a family reunion that most can't attend. Joe and I decided not to go, he's not interested in being on a ship and I get vertigo/sea sick inside a boat/ship.

Today has been a good day! I got to speak to James this morning. He is doing much better, eating a little more and not throwing up. His numbers are up enough that he only needs to go into the hospital for blood work twice a week now.

Carol and I took the kids to the Farmers Market here in town. Their dad was a no show last night. Carol went to the McDonalds where they meet and he text her at 6:05 pm that he wasn't coming in. Nothing like waiting until the last minute. Of course the kids were bummed and asking Carol why didn't he come. She does such a good job at not being negative about her ex to the kids.

Anyway, Carol bought some tamales for dinner tonight at the FM. Lou Lou petted every dog she saw. She is so polite and asks their owners if she may pet their dog before she approaches them.

Afterwards we went to the Kroger on the north side of town. It's a much bigger one than the one by us so it's always nice to stop in for a change. I didn't grocery shop this week because Lou Lou can be a handful in the grocery store and needed to pick up a couple things. Carol did her grocery shopping at the same time.

We came home and fed the kids lunch, then headed back up to the city park for Founders Day celebrations. The weather was just perfect, temps in the upper 70's and a cool breeze blowing. There were vendor booths and bounce houses galore. At one point I watched Lou Lou while Carol watched Lil Joe, he had found a friend of his to play with for awhile. Lou Lou made friends with a little boy about her age at one of the bounce houses and they had a grand time going from one bounce house to another. There was one bounce house that was about a story and a half tall. She practically ran up the bounce house stairs to the top so she could slide back down. The little boy and her separated when he wanted to do another bounce house and she wanted to do the climbing wall. It was just as well because Carol and Lil Joe found us at that point. I tell you, Lou Lou is fearless. She climbed all the way to the top of the climbing wall about two stories tall! At one point I just had a hard time watching. She was secure in a harness so no worries there.

We were hungry at that point so headed to the food trucks for a bite to eat. Lil Joe and Lou Lou got a Kona shaved ice and a Auntie Ann's pretzel with a drink. Carol got a wood fired cheese pizza while I opted for a sampler taco plate. There was three tacos, one with brisket, one with pulled pork and one with smoked chicken salad. Well, I didn't care for the BBQ sauce too much nor the brisket or chicken but the pulled pork was spot on as were the corn tortillas. While my food was being prepared I went to another food truck to get a strawberry lemonade, just didn't feel like a soft drink. It was a disappointment also, tasted like the flavoring that you put on a snow cone. Oh well.......

We came home and I've cleaned the kitchen and done two loads of laundry. Ready to sit and put my feet up for awhile.

Taz, I was thinking extra of you earlier. Always good to hear from you:hug:Thank you always for all you do at your church..Grandkid prayers always, too!

What wonderful news, dear Kirby:hug:! Praise be extra to God! Other than their no show dad, you know how I feel about that, I'm also so thankful that your precious grandkids are doing well and had some extra fun at the Founder's Day Festival. I hope you did, too!

I enjoyed talking with two elderly church friends this afternoon. Means a lot to me to check in on them. All is well. All is lovely and quiet here. Tomorrow, as always, I am looking forward to online worship. Dad will be going to our neighborhood 99 Cent Only Store, hoping they finally will have hand wipes, and Pavilions. We still plan to go to Target at open on Monday morning. Sometime before Monday afternoon, depending what we find at 99 and Target, we will have decided on our craft. I will, of course, share.

Sweet Saturday night dreams with love to all.

Yikes! I've been using self cleaning mode on various stove brands for many years. Since the fuse blew, I would be more anxious about the wiring going to the stove and in the stove construction. We had a situation where wiring was not up to code for the stove in one of our past homes. It was wired 220, but the actual wire used was not upgraded enough to carry the whole load safely. The fuse blowing was your safety feature to save from a possible fire, so it did what it was supposed to do.
Now I don't feel so bad about being lazy and not running mine!
There's nothing lazy about not running it and cleaning it manually. I'm the lazy one - I hate cleaning an oven and I use self clean all the time. The only time I remember not having it was when I had a gas stove when living in Texas.
All this oven talk reminds me of the importance of making sure any appliances, especially those using gas, are safe. Dad and I so many years ago, were standing in front of his ancient stove/oven waiting for brownies to finish baking when we either smelled burning or saw smoke. I don't remember which. Old cords for stoves and dryers should be tossed. Wires can break inside, fray and become a danger. Not worth taking chances.

That's interesting about the manuals. I got a very thick one with my Samsung refrigerator when it arrived a couple of years ago. Good thing, because I still have to read that thing for the settings. I also had to look at Youtube videos to remove the lower shelf to get it cleaned. Some stuff is just too complicated.

I hope everyone has a nice Saturday! 🐥

The self cleaning feature does take a long time and it gets extremely hot in there, so I would never start it and leave it, for sure. But I'm sort of shocked that so many don't use it. Maybe it would be an interesting community board question to see if it's really common.

I've noticed that it gets used often in our DVC timeshares. I've actually been checked into a unit where there was still a bit of time left on the cycle.
