^ That is a funny thread. I never have any to post but I get a kick out of them.

Lynn, I write a lot, too, and am often doing so at 2am too, lol. It is definitely a stress-reliever for me. I might write a book some day, but I haven’t decided what on, yet. My sister is a writer. DS loves the bison burgers at WL and got one when we were there recently. (We did manage to visit all the MK resorts and AKL as well as where we stayed to see their trees and gingerbread houses. We also hit all the All Stars so DD could get her pennies and for nostalgia’s sake as ASMu was where our first trip was and the kids were only 3 at the time, so it was fun for them to see it again. The rest of the family saw some others from the Skyliner on their way to DS from HS but I took the car back to the resort, not a big DS person. As I was waking up from a toasty nap, they came back saying it was freezing and horribly crowded, but they liked seeing all the Christmas trees, lol.)

DS is taking an important test today. Please send good vibes. 🙏🏻

I started to read Prince Harry’s book Spare last night. DH ordered it for me for Christmas. I don’t normally sit and read books. I did doze a bit, lol. But I like the writing style, not sure whether Harry’s actually writing it or the ghostwriter. I love England and Scotland and stories about the RF so so far, I’m enjoying it. I was a big Diana fan from the time she started dating Charles. I’m sad to see what’s happened between the brothers and father.

Have to do some grocery shopping today and going to make that cabbage roll soup again. Been craving it. I’ll see what else is on sale to decide what else we’re going to cook maybe tomorrow. We finally tried some Big Mac pizza the other night which I always wanted to try. The first couple of bites were ok but I think it’s a one and done.

Have a good Saturday, everyone! 🐥

Good morning.

Just ordered yarn and a pattern to knit a sweater for Marty. Able to download the pattern right away but won't get the yarn until after vacation, which is fine. Luckily we have a PO Box I can ship to.

At 11, planning to watch, online, the celebration of life of a church member. She was 93 and very active until her husband passed last spring.

That's all I've got for now.

Happy Friday the 13'th!

QOTD--Do you have any superstitions ?

I have none in general.
ts, lol (hard for me to do, I have 3 of them!)
If I spill salt, I toss some over my shoulder (thereby making more of a mess for me to clean up) :rotfl2: I will not walk under a ladder (but that's less superstition and more of caution because I am concerned someone might drop something from above me onto my head)! I don't walk on grates on the sidewalk (again, not because of superstitions, I just don't want to be on one when it falls in). Can't knock on wood; everything is particle board nowadays, and I am not sure that counts, LOL. If I were to put up a horseshoe, then yes, it would need to be points up, so the luck wouldn't run out; and no elephants with trunks pointing down. We don't open umbrellas in the house, because they are big and get in the way.
She has asked that of every one that she has been too. They just keep telling her they can't do anything until she goes to another doctor, for another one of her issues. But how long is she supposed to wait before they all get together and figure out what is going on and how to help her. I know she's super frustrated. She went to the rheumatogist Monday and the Kidney Dr. He gave her a referral to another Dr. When she went to the cardiologist, they told her they couldn't do anything until she had seen the urologist. It's like she's just spinning in circles.
What a mess. I do like the Mayo system, because everything is done under one umbrella, so to speak; so DH's transplant team has access to his medical stuff from the endo team and they have access to the mental health team, and so on. With DH's vast medical situation, he sees several different groups of doctors, and when he was getting thru the system for the transplant, the transplant team wouldn't move without clearance from the cardiology team, and the cardiology team wouldn't move forward without clearance from the mental health team, etc.

We also have Baptist health systems here, which has the same set-up as Mayo, but not quite as famous. DH's PCP and nephrologist are in that system, but 90% of his healthcare is done through Mayo. He has given Mayo and Baptist both authorization to share his medical records between the two system; but he still has to make sure the communication is done. He only goes to his PCP for things like routine checkups or having a headcold; even his vaccinations are done through Mayo.

I think Summer needs to have a health advocate; someone who can stand up for her and help her get things communicated and lined up. If her PCP can do that, great; but if not, she needs to get someone that can do it, even if it's a family member.

It was ok. I don't know the characters in LA or Hawaii so, at times, couldn't tell the good guys form the bad guys. And I agree that I prefer Hawaii to LA but like the original best. Of course, it's not the same without Gibbs.
We stopped watching NCIS last season; it just isn't the same. We watched a few season of Hawaii, but meh. LA was good, then it wasn't and we stopped watching; no idea what's going on there.

@Pea-n-Me I wanted to be a writer when I was younger. I discovered I am not very good at it; I think "It was a dark and stormy night" was the best part of my writing, lol. Lots of luck to your DS.
-------------------------------------------

Also, sadly did not win Mega Millions last night.

Well, DH was running a fever off and on for the last couple of days; it would go down with Tylenol, and never got above 99.8. Thursday he was on the couch all day, but felt better on Friday and was able to WFH. No fever this morning, Still coughing, but it's productive now (my cough is less today, but still productive); and both of us have runny noses and some body aches. I've had bad sinus pain the last couple days; and a bit of a headache right along the tops of my eyebrows and going down the center of my forehead (like a t shape), that's made it hard to concentrate on screens/books; it's better today. I think if I can get some solid heavy sneezes to clear out the pressure, it'll be much better...think I might go toss some pepper around, :rotfl: Everyone in DD#2's family are still neg, as is DS and DD#1's family; DH and I are retesting tomorrow. He's hoping to be better soon, because he has a work thing on Thurs/Fri that he really needs to attend.

I did have to go out yesterday, because we needed food. I did a pickup order at Target and CFA, but had to go into Publix because their pickup order system wasn't working for our store; wore a mask and all, but was a bit lightheaded the whole time (feel like that's because of the sinus situation, and my ears have still not popped from the flights). I have to run to Kohls today to return some items to Amazon, because it's the last day to do it, and I need to stop in at Publix again....turns out the gallon and a half of milk in the fridge (not yet expired) were bad; I went to make hot chocolate last night (because it was like 40 degrees 🥶 and someone had left the back windows open because she forgot they were open ); smelled the first one and it was turning; and the second unopened one smelled ok, but then I poured some into the pan and it was a bit clumpy and it was solid at the top of the container. 🤢 I think I'll pick up the stuff to make the Greek lemon chicken soup, since I have to go get milk; it sounds good on a cool day (we are going to be in the low 50s); easy to do and 90% can be done while sitting down.

Finally caught up with GH and the Chicago shows; will finish up the Resident today before the NFL playoff games start. We didn't watch much tv while on vacation. :happytv:

@Breezy_Carol I think I'll work on making DD#2's BFF's new baby (coming in 17ish weeks) blanket while I watch football; I don't crochet or knit, but I can make a blanket using the loop yarn, lol. My fingers and brain can't get together to do crochet or knitting. I didn't make one for my grandbabies when they were babies; I paid my sister to make ones for DGS #2 and 3, and I bought DGS#1 and 4, and her BFF's #1 baby off of Etsy. But then I learned how to do the loop yarn, so I can make them now...I have made a blanket for our bed (king size), which has a lot of mistakes because it was my first one, lol; and I made a pillow for DGS#2, that he slept with at daycare for a year or so, and then twin sized blankets for DD#2/SoIL#2/DGS#2. I bought the loop yarn to make blankets for DGS#3/DD#1/SoIL#1, but haven't made them yet; and I need to get the yarn for one for DGS#4 and DS.

anyways, need to shower and get moving. Have a good day!

B&B, pick up some of that Arm and Hammer XS Saline Spray, it will help with that feeling in your head to get some of the junk out. That gummy mucous doesn’t really move much when you sneeze or cough, that’s what makes Covid so tough. It’s made up of the same stuff as cartilage, so it’s strong. It needs to be forced out. Get a few cans for both of you. The ENT I saw also made me hold my nose and close my mouth and blow to unblock my ears, saying I could do it several times a day.

Our health system is like that, too, all encompassing. Not sure how it is where Summer is. My thought was that Summer had to be her own advocate, if she can. She could have someone help her, but it makes it harder because of HIPAA and all that, and people are less comfortable than they are with the patient themselves (unless it’s a spouse, maybe). I had to deal with it a lot with my mother. In her 90s, it wasn’t as much of an issue. But if I try to talk to anyone about my husband it gets a little trickier, and forget it with my kids, always a problem (which is frustrating to me since I can simplify things being so medically savvy). Someone could definitely help her with her list of things to talk about. And she could probably bring someone to the appt, but that person should be a help. (Can’t stress that enough.) I also think that with someone like your husband it’s different than with “regular” patients. People really jump when it comes to transplant patients.

I hope you and your husband feel better soon. :flower3:

That's on the list too! Thanks for the reminder. With the HIPAA thing, yeah, it's a bit harder, but there should be a form that she can fill out for the doctors, stating they can share her medical information with them. DH did it with both Baptist and Mayo, so that I can be informed, and handle things for him; with the prescription company we have to use too. DD#2 is our medical point person, if we aren't available for each other, along with a friend who is a nurse and can 'translate' medical for her if needed.

We have the form on board and it’s still difficult. I had so many ”discussions” about it, I’m sure they thought I was a PIA.

I am starting with a fan fiction story, haven't gotten too far into it yet, still mostly in the planning stages. I have a lot of thoughts written down, but not in any idea how to fit some of them in just yet.
DS is taking an important test today. Please send good vibes. 🙏🏻

QOTD: Do you do any of that? How does one get started as an adult?

I crochet, knit, hairpin lace, and cross stitch. I also learned how to tat, but no longer remember how. My great grandmother is the one who taught me all except cross stitch when I was young.

I would assume starting as an adult is the same. Start by learning the basics first, and go from there.

We finally tried some Big Mac pizza the other night which I always wanted to try.
Oooh, where did you get that?

We stopped watching NCIS last season; it just isn't the same. We watched a few season of Hawaii, but meh. LA was good, then it wasn't and we stopped watching; no idea what's going on there.
I watch the original consistently, and enjoyed the New Orleans one, but I disliked the Hawaii spinoff and never got into the LA version.

Inspired by all of your talk about knitting or crocheting (and sewing, all of that stuff).

QOTD: Do you do any of that? How does one get started as an adult?
I sew a little, and I used to do a lot of that plastic canvas stuff back when it was popular. (A couple of hooked rug projects too.)

But I started all of that as a kid/teen. I haven't picked up any new options in a while.

If I wanted to, though, the first place I'd check for a beginners group would be my local library.

Same here. Don watches all of them, but I rarely pay attention to the LA one, and I cannot stand the Hawaii one. I miss Gibbs being there, the new guy still doesn't fit in as far as I am concerned.

I'm currently watching part 1, since it showed up in my DVR. I'm guessing if I want to watch the continuation, I should look through on demand for Hawaii for part 2, then LA for part 3?

Did all the chores on my to do list for today, except still have to go to church for altar guild. Want to make sure the funeral reception is over.

My mom taught me to knit when I was a child. There used to be a department store near us (Hutzlers) that had a knitting section that sold yarn and patterns and would help if you ran into a problem. Now it is becoming a lost art. I could crochet a little but not much. As far as learning, sometimes independent yarn stores will have classes. Or maybe a community college.

I can sew if I need to but never enjoyed it.

I should look through on demand for Hawaii for part 2, then LA for part 3?
Correct.

It was 33 when I got up and 33 now. And windy. Glad I am not going out.

I hate sewing, but I can do it if I need to. Weirdly, I enjoy doing needlepoint/cross stitch. I did the plastic canvas stitching too, like @PollyannaMom , and started all that when I was a teenager. I don't do the plastic canvas thing as a regular thing now, but I do have some ornament kits that are made with that, that I am working on now. I've done latch hooking too, but not in years.

RN, I'm working on a batch of ornaments (on 10 ct plastic canvas); a set of Harry Potter house themed pictures (with cute versions of the snake/hedgehog/etc) to be framed, on a thick material (not quite canvas, not really cloth, kind of like wicker but not really...idk what to call it); and a picture of mushrooms and gnomes, to be framed for DD#2's bedroom. I'm still working on a set of angel crossstitch ornaments, where I'm adding different designs onto the angel 'dress', that I've been working on for about 30 years, lol. I have like 5 done of the 12. I do some, I get bored or my hands stop working right, I put it away.

I can't knit or crochet at all...my fingers don't connect to my brain for that. I can do the loop yarn thing, so that's what I do. Yes, I know it's kind of like crocheting, without the hooks, but my brain refuses to understand the hooks, but works without. IDK, weird, right? I started the loop thing a few years ago. I just looked up a bunch of stuff on the internet, and got some and started practicing.

In the past I have knitted a bit, crocheted a bit, took up weaving for a while (classes), did a lot of cross stitch, but mostly I sewed.

When we lived in South Texas there weren't many stores around. I don't think I really bought much in the way of clothes for myself in those four years.

I sewed sun dresses for my DD (now 44) and shirts for my husband, once he learned I had sewing skills and that that was what a sewing machine could be used for. I sewed a velvet dress for my DD to wear to her aunt's wedding. I couldn't find anything to buy in South Texas that was suitable for November in Maryland. As time went on I sewed her first communion dress and her comfirmation dress, several prom dresses and her graduation dress. The latter were requests as she had a difficult to fit top (she had reduction surgery last year).

The first prom dress needed she had a dressmaker do it and then brought it home for me to fix. I kept my mouth mostly closed on that one!

There were lots of other sewing projects over the years - once I worked as a waitress and I copied and sewed my uniform as I didn't want to pay for them. That led to others asking me to make pieces for them also. I never did it for money. One of my aunts asked me to come visit her for a weekend to make curtains for her house! Easy, yes, but she was stingy when she bought her fabric and with curtains you need to be a bit more on the generous side, still I did my best for her and she loved them. At least they stayed on her windows for a long time.

The weaving was something I first saw my grandmother do. She had a blanket loom and she carded her own wool and spun it into skeins of yarn plus dyed it. As kids we helped clean the wool and get it ready for the spinning process.

I never had my own loom so didn't do too many projects, but wish I had continued a bit more.

The other craft I learned was quilting. I loved this and did a lot of small pieces.

As time passed it was more difficult to do the finer work because of my eyesight and the growth of cataracts. Those are gone now, but I haven't returned to any of these projects except as needed in my home.

Good afternoon friends from cool and rainy LA,

Dad and I are enjoying a quiet Saturday. We watched some Price is Right earlier and will finally do one of our Christmas puzzles this afternoon. We're waiting on one expected Amazon package. I am truly so thankful to hear that some of you have such good healthcare systems that is indeed such a blessing extra from God. Dad is also part of major healthcare system out here. Also love all the shares of mmeories of sewing and other related work. Grandma enjoyed doing some sewing and a favorite memory of mine is how my beloved grandma knitted my playmobile kids pink felt sleeping bags and stuffed animal clothing as well including for a🧸 who I named Huggie. Lol, not sure why that was his name other than perhaps he came with a hug from my grandparents.

✍️reminder as it sounds like some of you do also enjoying writing. I, do, as well, as a lot of you already know. I still would absolutely welcome any Quacker contributions to the book I am working on. Any length from a couple paragraphs respect privacy with all my heart and will be stating as much within the book. What matters to me, and I believe God as well is that what you share is genuine and truly happened. Any names of people, locations, and even timing of events (feel free to alter or combine) are welcomed and encouraged. PM me please for more information and even a short share example. :thanks:🐥

🙏Kirby and I also love the egg picture, so funny.

Lynn, I am truly so glad you are enjoying creative writing. Prayers it is indeed a positive, fun outlet that brings you added 🕊️

🙏for Ellie, Snowysmom and always for dear you, as well!

Thank you for all the egg-cellant and fun 🥚pictures, PollyannaMom.

Carol, what a special gift you are making for Marty. He is so blessed to have you in his life. As I have shared before I don’t even sew a button. on the church member. 93 is quite an amazing life indeed!

Continuing health prayers, B&B!🙏 How kind of you to also make a home-made gift for your different members of your family. I truly hope the soup helps both you and your DH feel better and that your shopping goes quickly and smoothly today, too.

Judique, I have always thought a home-made quilt would be a very meaningful gift to make someone. I enjoy hearing stories behind some quilts that friends have made. What a blessing also that you also hand made with love various clothing including the sun 👗for your family.

Have a good rest of Saturday and please stay warm and well! I will come back later.

QOTD: Do you do any of that? How does one get started as an adult?
No, but I've always wanted to learn. I still have the blanket one of my grandmothers knitted for me as a baby.
I have a aunt who quilts and another aunt who is quite good at knitting.
As far as learning, sometimes independent yarn stores will have classes.
One of these days I'm going to do that -

took up weaving for a while (classes)

The weaving was something I first saw my grandmother do. She had a blanket loom and she carded her own wool and spun it into skeins of yarn plus dyed it. As kids we helped clean the wool and get it ready for the spinning process.
Oh man, what a wonderful skill to have, that must have been neat being able to take weaving classes. What a lost skill, you don't hear about to many people these days doing that.
We've got a few of those alpaca places around here that sell items I think.

Long story short, I went dress shopping again. Resisted the urge to buy slacks, my mantra today was "make a damn effort for once" ha ha. I entered the changing room with 12 dresses, walked out of the store with 3 of them! I'm going to live with them for a day or so and try the on again and make a final choice.

It was blowing a bit of snow this AM, and it's cooolllllddd outside! To windy to get in hot tub and enjoy it unfortunately, since it's a treat on cold nights. Oh well - tomorrow is another day.

I saw something odd today, I was in a Food Lion grocery store in Smyrna, DE this afternoon picking up a few things, one of which was laundry detergent. Well they had the majority of the laundry detergent - but not all of it - that was pods in bags in those plexiglass type containers, like you sometimes see electronics in. So - it was weird - if I wanted to buy a smaller bag of Tide pods I had to take it in the case up to be undone. But the larger bag of pods was there NOT in the case. Some of the containers that had laundry pods were also in cases, some were not. And it wasn't brand specific either.

Dinner was /is hoagies from Wawa. Not sure about tomorrow, I did pick up a whole roaster with the intention of cooking it and breaking it down for lunch meat for this week. I might do it in the crock pot, or perhaps a good old fashioned roast chicken dinner. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Switching between Harry Potter & The Football...husband wants to brave the wind and hot tub after all ...what the heck, only live once. Off I go!

Went to Costco this afternoon for some storage bins that were on sale and also grabbed a rotisserie chicken for dinner. As usual, it was bonkers there on a Saturday afternoon. I saw the sander trucks driving in tandem on the highway but thankfully I made it back home before the snow started.

Wishing you all a cozy evening!
