Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

DD got to speak with her new attorney, I'll call him Bob, this afternoon. He has given her hope and we are planning on driving with her next week to South Carolina to see the kids. :yay:

DH and I went out to eat with friends for an early dinner at Fish Shack. I took my friend there to eat for her birthday and she wanted to go back. The fried catfish was great, I'd like to try something different if we go again.

It's been pretty warm today, our car registered 101 in the garage with doors opened for a cross breeze and 104 while we were out to dinner. I don't know what the official DFW Airport temp is yet. If I can stay awake long enough I might see it on the news.

My cousin, Rodney, that I mentioned not too long ago is home now and doing pretty good post stroke. He goes to his oncologist on the 14th.

...

Totally different note, I got exceptional service from an Amazon customer service person named Carlos. Ruth got the number 9 cake pan this afternoon. It was not the solid baking pan we had intended and ordered. Ruth said it came damaged, was packaged poorly, and was completely rubbery and pliable. Neither of us, despite the item's description, would feel safe baking in it...
I checked the link to the pan which you had provided earlier (Number 9 Cake pan). The Amazon description says that it is a silicon cake pan, so it is supposed to be flexible and pliable. Totally safe to bake in. Safe to heat to over 400 degrees. And easy to clean!

It sounds like a silicon pan, maybe? I used to have one that made big cupcakes. - I just put it on a cookie sheet for support when I put it in the oven.
Bingo! Silicon it is. Good tip about placing the pan on a cookie sheet before baking.

Good morning all. Up early with my big guy- my Dane. He was up early gabbering and talking so I got up so my husband could get a bit t more sleep. So we are out on the porch having our coffee and enjoying the rain. Managed to get home yesterday and get all the mowing done since today is gonna be a wash out. Great day to get some shopping done…but I’ve already got that built into my day tomorrow.
Oh- might be a good day to go to the movies! Hmmmm I’ll have to check out the show times, maybe we can catch the Jurassic Park movie.
Have a good morning everyone-

@Kirby I am glad your DD's new attorney seems more involved. That will be a relief for your DD.

Good Morning. It is a nice day here so far. I have not seen the weather forecast so no idea what is ahead. I took my first walk and had breakfast on the balcony. I am off to the hairdresser.

I sent Chris' cousin a grabber (pick up things off the floor or out of a cabinet) as he told me it hurts to bend down to pick up things due to hip issues. He called me last night to say he got it and he is happy to have it. He said he was thinking of getting one so I am glad I thought of getting it for him. We always talk for a long time as we have Chris and their family in common. He is the cousin who has a 5th recurrence of cancer. Treatment will be decided after targeted scans. I am praying he can fight this one too.

Have a good Saturday. I know I will not be seeing older DS this weekend as he works. I will see if younger DS texts and if not I will see if I can drop by for a bit to play with the grandkids and have some company.

The kitty thermometer this morning says "hot" -

(Can't load pic for some reason - she's stretched waaaaay out in a partially shaded spot.)

My neighbor just walked by with her puppy (already bigger than the cat) who really wanted to play with her. She checked him out from a distance but declined to get close.

Did see a hummingbird this morning, but wasn't at a good angle to get a pic. We heard him chirp though, which was really cool! I usually just hear the wings.

Good morning! We have been away and are only home until Tuesday morning, when at 6 AM we will take Covid tests on Zoom to see if we can go on the cruise with the family on Thursday.

I have read this thread today and just wanted to say Hi. At Beach Club on Thursday I was on the patio saying prayers and reflecting on things when this chameleon like creature was sitting on a sprinkler head and was looking at the world and thinking too, I guess. I did zoom in, so not actual size, but I marvel at his world and was glad he was there.

Good morning everyone. We had some light rain overnite, but now the forecast of 'rain all day today', is down to 'not much rain today'. Its still very humid. I was going to open the windows and turn the ac off,,but after going outside to feed the outdoor cats, I said no way. Checked the garden, all growing well. Already stripped and remade the bed. Still have the same headache I went to bed with. I slept from 1 am till 8..I never sleep till 8, lol.
@FlyingDumbo --Mona,,I agree, it's perfectly safe to bake in silicone cookware..I do it all the time. It's usually easier to get baked goods out of them for me
Going to have chili cheese dog 'weiner wraps' for dinner tonite with baked beans and fresh corn
@Pea-n-Me Your seafood platter sounds delicious..all you were missing was some Nathans fries with it,,lol!

Have a great morning

I probably need to go grocery shopping today but it also means cleaning out the fridge. Ugh. Not in the mood for that, but it has to be done. @lynxstch You are right, some Nathan’s fries would’ve been nice! I have to say it was tasty, but I don’t think it was worth what I paid for it. Prices are so ridiculous now. There’s a seafood place I wanted to go to which is better, but DH wasn’t up for the ride as they were thinking of taking the boat out so we just got take out from a little place which is good, but I think that sort of thing is better when you get it fresh on the table at the actual restaurant rather than sort of limp and lumpy in a take out box.

Don’t have a lot of chatting time this morning, we have some errands to run. Just having my second cup of [decaf] coffee. Weather is nice. No big plans and no dinner plans as of right now, will have to give it some thought. Still have to do that no-fry eggplant parm bake, we might do that. (I bought new eggplant since I’d forgotten about it. Idk how long those last.) I have a couple of tests I have to take so I also have to start studying for those, I just got the books in the mail yesterday. DS was needling me last night about not getting started then as I’m always doing to him, but the lighting was low in the living room, lol. DD went up to NH to a concert last night, will catch breakfast at a favorite diner, then head home. I know she was tired as she’d worked some long shifts this week.

Have a good day, everyone! 🐥

I clean out my fridge every weekend as our organic pickup is on Mondays. Also have a scraps bag in the freezer (in addition to on my counter) as in warm weather putting stuff outside in the organic container means flies and then their offspring. It's amazing how much gets wasted.

I can't remember ever having Nathan's fries so I'm watching for them as I shop.

Seafood as takeout - doesn't work with coated fried shrimp!
I like to get shrimp when I'm on Hilton Head Island and the containers just steam the coating and ruin the experience. I've found that opening the boxes and driving them back to our villa open works better, although eating in is preferable. I'm still not keen on indoor dining and still avoid it.

Meanwhile, I want to drive up to Massachusetts/Cape Cod and have a lobster roll!
(It's a nostalgia thing, similar to when we drove to Newport to eat at the Creamery one year, in addition to coming to the Cape and into Boston.) "Want' is the operative word here as it's not likely to happen soon.

Everybody is so busy and I don't really want to go alone. (Have no problem driving south by myself, or at least I didn't last Jan and March with the grands!) Guess I want to share the experience. Would prefer to go late August/early September but not over the holiday weekend. But, the new grandbaby is due late August, so the trip can't happen then.

Last part of July is out due to my DD's cruise - I'm on tap for some kid sitting.

So now I'm into late September/early October and my DD's jobs are in their busy season and the grands are back in school. And November is my Disney trip, plus the weather is iffy from Halloween on - meaning rain and not beach walking weather for me.

This scenario has been happening for me for quite a few years now. Already booked for a beach visit in the next two weeks here in Maryland.

We have some of the best around! 😍 (But believe it or not, they’re not really my thing! I’m not a big lobster fan!)

Last time I had one, it was here. Their seafood is delicious. (Pic below)

And you’re absolutely right about the take out. We prefer to eat out (outside, preferably), but last night it was the best option.

It’s funny, for us, we live near the beach, so beach vacations don’t have as much of an appeal for us. Just last night a friend invited me to meet up at a different beach location an hour and a half away, and I was thinking, why would I want to do that? :lmao: To see her, of course, but she lives inland so it’s not like it’s in her backyard, either. I’d rather visit the city or go out to a nature reserve or something different. (First world problems!)

We never got into jigsaw puzzles. I think part of the reason is because one swoop of the dogs’ tails would’ve wiped the whole thing out, lol. DD’s boyfriend has gotten her into them. They’ve had a couple with one piece missing and had to write to the companies for replacement (with success). I bought him a big one of Fenway Park last Christmas.

I got a seafood platter tonight and made a cup of haddock chowder, too. It was delish (shrimp, scallops, clams and haddock with fries, onion rings and cole slaw). I put half of it away for later. DH made us some strawberry shortcake, too.
I love puzzles, and I have a cat story, lol. I had a puzzle on the dining room table, and the cat decided to jump from the back of the chair to the chandelier, and then to the top of the windowblinds...and fell right onto the table, scattering an almost entirely done puzzle to the floor. I was so mad...and I still never found 4 pieces! :rotfl:

Silicon pan, definitely. Safe to bake in, use a cookie sheet. I have one that is a 'cupcake' size, that makes Tardises (Tardi?) and Dalek shaped items. I've only used it to make candy, though.

@tazdev3225 enjoy the trip!
@Kirby good luck to your daughter with the new lawyer

@Judique I also clean out my fridge weekly, on Sunday mornings, when I get back from grocery shopping. Our trash day is Monday as well, so that helps. . I like Nathan's fries, but my current favorite are the Grown In Idaho Lamb Weston branded ones. They seem to taste so much better

Power was flickering last night, [bad storm rolled through; it flooded the road in front of the house in less than half an hour] so I decided to not risk cooking breakfast for dinner (100% if I had cooked, we would have completely lost power, lol). :littleangel: Ordered Five Guys, with milkshakes for a treat. Today, I'm making meatloaf, with roasted smashed potatoes and veggies for dinner; and I'm making a late brunch of bacon, eggs, potatotes and toast or muffins or cinnamon rolls, depending on what the masses want, as soon as I'm done typing this post up.

Tomorrow will be a busy day, as I have to run to the store in the morning, for fresh fruit/veg, creamer, and bread; to Kohls to return some items to Amazon for DH, and Home Depot for some outdoor insect killer; then DH and I are going to have a 'date' and see the new Thor movie that afternoon. Hoping the theater stays unbusy; when we bought our tickets yesterday, we were the only ones in that showing. Tomorrow, I'm making our big meal lunch; it's chicken parm, w/pasta and sauce, and salad or veggies of some sort, and garlic bread.

@Pea-n-Me When I was younger, I always wanted a vacation to a beach. We lived in Colorado, and our vacations were always camping trips to the mountains, and I was so jealous of people on beaches! DH grew up near a beach almost his whole life. Now that we live in FL, and are about an hour from beaches....we don't go! We've gone to the beach maybe 12 times total in the almost 15 years we've lived here! Part of the reason we don't go is because it's safer for DH to stay out of the sun, with the immunosupprescents, he's more prone to skin cancer; but also it's just a pain to pack the car, go, haul everything down to the beach, keep an eye on it while doing stuff, then haul it back to the car, clean it before getting in the car, get home, unload, clean everything better, and clean the car! It's so much work! Now, I'm all, let's not go camping (just as much work, if not more, as going to the beach...let's just go stay in a hotel and eat out! :rotfl2:

ok, I've delayed brunch long enough. I'm off to cook. Y'all have a good day!

Since there’s so much chat about seafood!

From Flying Fish on the Boardwalk. I think my main course was called “seafood pearls.”

Thanks, PollyannaMom. Dad did make that suggestion to Ruth. Yes, it is a silicone pan. We both thought it would be a little sturdy. Instead, Ruth described the pan as completely squishy and strange. She did say she would ask a baker friend about it when she sees her in the next few days so we shall see. Told dad that lol if anyone should see an actual 99 baking pan it ought to be the 99 Cent Only Store! They don't, as far as we know anyway. When I hear from Matt, I'll have to ask him! That is very sweet that your neighbor's dog :dogdance:wanted to play with your cat :cat:.

Thank you also Carol and for your prayers for Joyce. I thank all of you dear Quackers for your prayers for Joyce. She's such a kind lady who always looks out for my dad and kindly asks him how I'm doing. She tries so hard to keep the laundromat clean and in good shape. I hope you stay home and dry, be cozy and enjoy a good 📕📺 movie/show.

God Bless, Bob, Kirby! Much continued 🙏and extra❤️ Continued prayers for Rodney as well!

Good to see you pop in, Luckyrabbit! Thank you as well for your kind baking assurance. I also think it could work. i do understand why Ruth is hesitant to try it.

I also enjoy all your :dog: tails, Easyas. I hope you do get to enjoy a 🎦movie today.

🌸for you Snowysmom and a :hug:too. Enjoy some grandkid time. Before the pandemic, when I would stay with or go visit Sue, I know she found a grabber to be quite handy. I hope Chris' cousin finds it useful as well.

🙏dear Bobbiwoz for negative Covid results and that you enjoy a fantastic🛳️

Thanks, for the extra assurance, dear Lynn. I'm glad that silicone has worked for you as well as PollyannaMom. I wish you and everyone (in general, always, all of you know this) lived closer and could help be bakers! I will share what we do decide on. :grouphug:I'm so sorry to hear you still have a headache :( Feel better, please!

:hug:Pea, I hope you get to enjoy something fun and relaxing today after doing your 🛒

:grouphug:to you, Judique, all your vacation plans to come sound lovely. I look forward to virtually coming along and hearing all about your adventures!

Stay safe and dry, B&B! Oh no to your poor puzzle 🧩May your next puzzle get to be finished! I hope you thoroughly enjoyed your dinner treat 🍨

Love and Saturday🌞to all. I shall check in later

@lynxstch, chili cheese dog weiner wraps sound interesting! How do you make them?
I buy the Johnsonville Chili Cheese Dogs,,then I buy a pkg of either crescent rolls or Grands. For the Grands I roll them flat and roll them around the dogs..for the crescents I just unroll them and wrap them around the chili cheese dogs. Bake at 350 for about 16 minutes or so. What I use depends on which I have in the fridge..now it happens to be Flaky Grands

:wave:Waving hi and good afternoon. All is quiet thankfully around here. Later, I will post a picture of the Christmas puzzle decoration that dad and I are finishing up for Terri. We are doing this now so that we can home laminate (clear contact paper) the poster board that the puzzle is pasted onto so the green color won't fade between now and December. Terri really liked the puzzle picture we made for Sue. It will be fun to surprise her with a puzzle decoration of her own at Christmas 🎄
