Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

The cats let me sleep in a bit this morning, so I'm still nursing my coffee. A part broke on the coffee maker yesterday, but thankfully I was able to replace it.

The big news here is that DS's latest test was negative! Thanks for all who prayed or sent good wishes. 🙂 He still has a bit of a cough, but isn't sure whether it's leftover covid cough or high-pollen-level cough (normal for this time of year for him).

Lynn I forgot to put in my 2 cents about flowers. I know I appreciated the flowers at Chris's funeral as an expression of how much people cared and thought of us. The colors and the beauty just spoke to me. I would not have liked to have to take home a plant to take care of. If I could take care of myself I was doing well, never mind thinking about caring for a plant. To be honest, I probably would have just left the plant at the funeral home.

It's really a shame sometimes how many flowers are tossed after funerals and other events. But then, flowers don't last even if left to grow in the garden. They are momentary beauty, just like a life itself is.

I love flowers and plants but have no indoor plants due to having cats. I used to have a ton of them, and loved the green and freshness that I felt from them.

All the buds initially fell off the Hibiscus I bought a couple weeks ago. I had replanted it in a big tub and it's on my front porch. This morning I put some fertilizer and water and noticed lots of new buds so I should have blooms by next week. I'm already considering how to keep it alive over winter, but I've made it so heavy, I doubt I'll be able to move it.

DD was on her way to Aruba for a long weekend yesterday. Connection at JFK. Weather issue meant missing that flight. Long story short she slept on a bench at JFK, even after booking a room.

She's on her way again as her Delta flight boarded at 8am.

I'm sort of relieved she didn't go to the hotel. All the airport ones with shuttles had no availability and surge pricing makes using Uber or Lyft possibly expensive and this was a budget trip. She did book a further out hotel that supposedly had a shuttle, until she tried to find it and the hotel said they didn't have one. She was able to cancel it.

She was able to use the Amex lounge until 9pm. Comfy chair and free dinner. Then eye mask and ear plugs while actually sleeping on a padded bench seat with her packing cube full of tshirts for a pillow. She wasn't the only passenger doing this. This morning the Delta lounge opened at 5am and she got breakfast and a shower. Good to have the type of credit cards which will get you a bit of comfort - Amex Platinum and Chase Sapphire.

She will be back Tuesday morning.

Good morning Quackers--already 83 here, going to 90, but there is a really nice breeze that blew all the humidity away, finally.
Just did a garden walk through and noticed that we finally have 2 small tomatoes instead of just flowers!

@Judique Sorry your daughter had issues on her way to her getaway, hopefully the rest will go smoothly!

@flyingdumbo127 Add me to the list of people who just don't care for pretzels. Mr L likes those big thick straight ones, to me it's like biting into a tree branch, lol!

@Snowysmom Your whiteboard comment made me LOL too. At least Chris is letting you know all the time that he's around and keeping an eye on you!

@bobbiwoz --hope that you get your hand/shoulder fixed, and that your husband gets his knee done. I guess 'falling apart together' is better than falling apart alone!

Have a great day everyone,,stay cool

Just went out for a beer run. I have discovered I like brown ale. DH found some brewed in Hagerstown, Maryland, at a local store so we got some.

I do too but DSIL is a teacher so that limits things.

I sure as heck don't, seeing that I am 69.

Saw it, thanks. I hope it isn't too hard to make the switch.

I LOVE pretzels. I can't have them in the house. If we buy a bag, I can finish it in 5 days, and that is if I take my time.

I like beer with certain foods. And when I'm really hot and thirsty! But, I don't need the carbs and the alcohol so rarely have any. I sometimes will buy non alcoholic such as O'douls (sp).

69 here also. I feel old when I hurt. I also make a point of saying I'm old when it benefits me a little as apparently I don't look almost 70. Or maybe people who say that are just being nice?

Also feel old when I can't immediately remember the right words. Sometimes it takes a bit to process.

In a store on Wednesday a former employee wearing a mask approached me. Thankfully she said her name and work location immediately and I 'faked' that I remembered her. I vaguely remember the last name. To put in perspective I managed over 200 people at a time with lots of new ones coming and others leaving, either quitting, moving departments or getting terminated so not remembering someone I had a short term relationship with is not that disturbing to me. However, I used to know all names instantly as that was an ability I had for details that kept me relevant in my work. It was 'go ask Judique'. She remembers everything for the past 30 years, lol.

I like the big and soft pretzels or ones with a mustard taste, but really not much into the hard ones.

I found 2 ripe cherry tomatos yesterday and cut them in half and added to my sandwich! Not much but felt great. I also was able to pick a small bowl of blueberries which are ripe early this year.

Still haven't planted my cucumber seeds. Not too late so long as they get lots of water as they don't take that long to grow. Taste so good fresh!

My DD (younger) has been using up her use it or lose it leave by taking Fridays off. I'm really hoping today is one of those days as I have stuff for her to help me with!

Off to check as I was kind of distracted earlier and didn't think to ask her.

@lynxstch yes, together is preferable.

Went out at 7 to feed the birds and then at 8 to pray, and what a difference! Much more humid now!

Enjoy your days, Quackers!

Hope things get better for both of you with the shoulders and knees. The Valtoren has made quite a difference for me. That combined with icing the area.

I have definitely lost strength and need to concentrate on the exercises I was told to do but that I've neglected. I know they'll help so why can't I just do them? Need to schedule myself.

My birds did not get seed while I was gone as I had run out. Went to Costco and got the 40 pound bag which is now up to $24.99! One bag a month is all they can have. Maybe more in winter when it snows. Right now there are loads of mulberries for them so they are not suffering from lack of food. They just love those sunflower seeds!

@lynxstch - 81 here going to a possible 96, with a 30% chance of rain between 3 and 4. I won't bet on the rain.

Then Sat and Sunday, highs in high 70ties, with 90ties back next Tuesday and onward.

At least we had spring this year. Or felt like spring. Usually it's cold, 2 days of nice, then hot and humid once May rolls around.

Good morning.

Going to be a hot one today so DH and I started moving the yard at 8 am and finished by 10. It's 82 and humid now and supposed to hit 90.

We have COVID tested negative before going to OBX tomorrow. There will be ten adults, a 6 yo girl, a 5 yo girl, a 2 yo boy, a 3 month old boy, and a 2 month old boy. It is going to be different for us, but fun.

I boiled noodles for my pasta salad to take. Wanted to get the hot part done early. Still have a list of things to do, including packing. But we have gone to OBX so many times, I hardly need a list.

A WDW question: I was trying to make a fake ADR just to see if I could on my iPad so I don't have to take my laptop on vacation. I found that when I tried 8 people (how many of us there will be) nothing was available, but I could make a reservation for 4 people. Any thoughts on if we can sit together? I will look at the trip boards another time.

There is so much to do before a vacation!
Ain't that the truth. At least I am not working.
The big news here is that DS's latest test was negative!
YAY!
Also feel old when I can't immediately remember the right words. Sometimes it takes a bit to process.
That also happens to me a lot.

Better get to my list. Will try to check in later.

I think that if you make two reservations for four and then tell the hostess when you get there that you are the same family they will try to accommodate you. Don't quote me on that though. ;)

I don't send flowers/plants to funerals anymore. When my dad died six years ago there were so many flower arrangements our house looked like a florist shop and that was just my house. One of his sisters sent a huge Peace Lily, I mean gigantic. It was 4' across and 3' tall and I was the only one that had room for it. I stuck it on the back patio where it did really well until the weather got cold. I didn't have room inside so it died. I send donations to either that family's favorite charity or if they don't designate one, I send it to one of mine.

We're picking up DS from the airport later today. He was in Saratoga Springs, NY for a couple of days and said it was beautiful.

Yeah, this is my understanding as well.

I think I missed a fair bit over the past few days. Re: Funeral flowers/plants...I guess I'd just send what I thought would be well received. Flowers will die eventually, so if the plant did as well I guess I wouldn't think much of it. To anyone & everyone who is having a rough go of it, hope things get better soon.

I was wasting some time in Target yesterday afternoon before a Dr. appt. I went to the back where all the lawn/garden/patio stuff is. Except, it wasn't. Not a damn patio /warm weather/garden thing left! Several rows of empty shelving. Like empty as in not just a few items left, but nothing there. At all. There was a cart full of fire pits and some wreaths in fall colors stacked on top, ready to be put out I guess. I can't believe they are going to start putting fall stuff out already!!! No!
I saw a article on msn yesterday regarding the "best fall side dishes". It isn't even officially summer yet!:crazy2:
This weekend looks fabulous in terms of the weather here, hope everyone had a great Fathers Day weekend -

I'll just sit over here and feel like I'm the baby of the group, lol. (I just turned 51 last month)

I like pretzels. Big and soft ones (with a beer cheese or other cheese dip, or a sweet one with icing are the best, but I'll not turn down just a regular salted); I also like the bagged hard kind; I like those ones that are flavored, but I'll take the regular, and dip them in chocolate peanut butter, haha.

No. No. No. I HATE the seasonal creep. Maybe I want to wait to get garden stuff until July. Geez

Waiting on the Rooms to Go guy, to replace the warped table; supposed to be here between 2 and 6. Waiting to hear back from the guy the landlord assigned the dishwasher repair to; he messaged me and asked when he could come, and I told him pretty much any day between 8am and 4pm, and I haven't heard back yet.

Dinner tonight: I'm roasting cauliflower and broccoli, and doing something with those, and maybe some chickpeas and couscous. I might make a cucumber tomato salad with feta too; or maybe some hummus, to go with some pitas I have. I am still figuring it out, lol.

SEriously so hot and sunny out. I think I might go sit in a chair and get some color on these pasty white thighs, lol.

Have a good day, y'all.

Same here with kids not out of school yet. We are at 90, but it actually feels a lot cooler, probably cause of the nice breeze. This weekend will be in the 70's so I can't wait. Waiting for the prescription assistance lady to call back. She had to get one more signature from the cardiologist office to fax it to the company. But in the meantime, Mr L is out of Trulicity. I just called the pharmacy and asked how much just 1 month would be..she said $46..then why in the heck is 90 days worth almost $450?? She said maybe the donut hole, but he is nowhere near close to that yet. She said she would just fill 1 month for now..and wait for the drug company to get and accept the application. We make way under their income limit, so they should approve it, fingers X'd.

@easyas123 I hear you on Target and fall stuff coming out. Walmart is the same. They aren't even restocking things like trimmer cord, mowers, wackers, etc. The girl who was putting the fall stuff out , says they already have Christmas stuff in the back waiting to go out. Same with summer clothing. Don't try to find a bathing suit again after July 1 around here,,the 'back to school' clothes will be out, and school isn't out until next week, never mind time to start again

The granddaughter who just graduated high school, went to SC this week for her college orientation. Her mom went with her and they made it one last mother daughter experience. She is thrilled to be going away to school, but also very apprehensive. Understandable. That means we won't see her again until at least Thanksgiving or Christmas, but she promised to facetime and text as much as she could. Her and her younger sister (14) are extremely close, and that's going to be very hard on the younger one.

Have a nice afternoon all

@Breezy_Carol have a GREAT getaway!

Good Morning from overcast CA,

It's definitely cooler than yesterday which is actually a good thing since even I felt too warm most of the day. This morning lol back my feeling a tiny bit cool every so often. I am also just wearing a T shirt. Dad is at the laundromat followed by Ralph's and the post office. He's going to get me extra stamps ahead of the July postage increase. We enjoyed watching some of the Price is Right special last night. It was sad to see the new pandemic format. It looked like possible contestants could only sit with whoever they came to the studio with. The entire audience was spaced out and not very full at all. Nothing like my memory of dad and I attending a taping (no, we did not get picked) way back in the 90's, I believe. It was fun thought because the episode did show some flashbacks to Bob Barker's days.

Hug, Snowysmom and prayers you have a good Friday. The weather out there sounds nice, neither too hot or cold :)

Praise God! Wonderful morning update to read, PollyannaMom, thank you for sharing with us! I'm glad the cats let you sleep, too :)

Prayers, Judique, that the rest of your daughter's trip goes smoothly! Thank you for caring for birds 🐦

Hug, Lynn and thank you so much for the morning extra smile, my friend. LOL to "biting into a tree branch." Pretzels will always give me an extra smile now to think of dear you, so funny and also very true! ETA I also agree with kids and school. To me, and I am not a parent, but school should be after Labor Day through just before Memorial Day or at latest early June. Back in the dark ages, I do recall going to school later in June. We did have all of July and August off. School in August these days, to me, doesn't make sense. You keep cool! :( on the Trulicity cost. Crazy. Truly awful that needed medications for many are so not affordable. Prayers, my friend.

Bobbiwoz, prayers you are feeling well this day. Smart of you to do your outside tasks early. Prayer time is a must and so vital!

Wow, Carol, that is quite a traveling crew! How fun that you get to have such a family trip, blessing indeed for all. Prayers all of you enjoy a safe and fun adventure together!

Welcome home to your DS, Kirby! So glad he enjoyed a good trip. Thank you for the donations you do make. Prayers bigtime continuing for your entire family especially your grandchildren.

I never understand either, Easyas, why stores these days see extra in a rush to sell the next season? Why not give thanks for and enjoy the current time? I will say, from what dad has told me anyway, it seems like out here anyway due to the pandemic, like everything else, seasonal decor is harder to find now and not as plentiful. I hope you did get some needed things at Target and that your doctor's appointment went very well. Target reminds me to share with all of you that through tomorrow, Target Circle has a $10 off $50 offer. Dad and I used this to order printer ink yesterday.

Keep Cool, B&B! I hope the furniture man comes soon!

On a flower note, ITA with those of you have shared that you find it sad that flowers often get abandoned. This was something that bothered me tremendously at church. Both with flowers used during worship and then afterwards on tables during fellowship. For each Sunday morning's traditional service (the service I always attended) different people would donate one of that week's two HUGE assortment of flowers. I am simple lady who is not a showy fan especially where church is concerned but that is another story. Anyway, picture two truly heavy and huge potted arrangements of loose flowers jammed together. To me, they were often too much! Anyway each person who donated flowers that week would have their name printed in the bulletin along with a note that shared who their flower donation was in honor or memory of. Sadly those same flowers were left to pretty much wilt afterwards. I am thinking again now that there ought to be some sort of flower ministry out there from churches, funeral homes, hospitals even, etc.

Friday hugs to all! I will check back later :)

Pasta salad and broccoli salad made. Luckily I have a good cooler for all this food. It actually held stuff cold for 2 days to Florida.

@easyas123 and @Kirby , thank you for your input. I am hoping that is what happens. If not, we will just have to switch up who sits with who each meal.

@flyingdumbo127 , you see the flowers at our church. Same as yours, people can pay then have the in honor of or in memory of printed. Then they can either take them or leave them. We move them into Heritage Hall for the contemporary service. If not taken, they get watered and moved to the welcome center to be enjoyed as long as they last. There used to be people that took them to shut ins but volunteers are hard to find.
