Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Quick Good Morning from cold (for me) CA! Off to the new dentist in about an hour. I'll be very thankful to be home later! I will post to share how it went. Thank you all for your extra prayers.

:grouphug:🙏to all Quackers this morning indeed, dear Pea, including always, YOU! :)

🌻Snowysmom. Breathe, try to be still, and know you are never, ever alone! We all care and love you, too! I also believe you will find the right place. Your heart will know.

Stay warm everyone and please take care, too. I'll check back later :)

Quiet thread today! I do have a new dentist, Dr. E, update. Short version: Very glad the initial meeting is over! I, of course, above all thank God for being with me extra and keeping me safe. I was disappointed in Dr. E. To be completely fair, I am not yet sure whether he will work for me. I'll know that for sure after I go back towards the end of April for the cleaning that didn't happen today--I'll share why below.

First and foremost, I sincerely appreciated Dr. E's kindness and that of his receptionist. I was not charged for today's visit which was an incredible blessing. I was able to spend a good 20 minutes with Dr. E. We went over my dental needs and a bit of history, etc. I thanked him for taking the time to reply to my email a few months ago. He was a nice man who really did try. He did not have an ultrasonic to do my cleaning today. In hindsight, I wonder more about that. Did something happen to the ultrasonic that the dentist he took over for had? I am guessing all dentists these days have such a tool? Or perhaps it was old and needed to be replaced? I didn't ask. To me, it does seem very odd that any dentist would not have one! He said by my next appointment (later in April) the new ultrasonic should be there. The receptionist knows to call me if it is not.

Dr. E did take a very quick look and said all did indeed look good. I made the mistake of letting him attempt to clean my teeth in front by hand :( I could feel the pressure of his pushing my teeth with the scaler. It wasn't painful just absolutely not going to work for me TMJ-wise! No way. Dr. M, my wonderful old dentist, was so very gentle. I sincerely never felt much of anything, plus he was very quick! Old-fashioned extra kind care! Dr. E. definitely was willing and tried which, of course, I appreciated :)

Dad's dentist also retired so he is trying to find a new dentist himself. He was given (by his former dentist) the names of the two people who took over his practice. Dad has not yet reached out to them. He also a recommendation or two from his periodontist. We have the name of the dentist my former church pastor and friend (the person who recommended Dr. M, to me :)) now sees and the info for Barbara's dentist (his practice is neat us) as well. Good to have options! We shall keep it all in prayer and see. It could still work out fine with Dr. E. Just at this moment, I will need someone else. I sure do miss Dr. M that's for sure!

Thanks, friends, for reading all that and of course, your love and prayers extra.

Wishing all of you a good afternoon.

Good Afternoon everyone.

@Snowysmom do what is right for you, not your sons. My husbands best friend lost his wife suddenly a few years ago. He found love late in life and they only had about 5 or 6 married years together, but he was devastated when she passed away from a blood clot. His family pushed him into selling his house immediately, getting rid of his dog (she was his wife's dog and older), pretty much doing everything within months of her passing before he even had a chance to see how his finances would work or he could process what had happened. From the conversations we have had, I know he is not happy he did everything so quickly. If moving is right for you then do it. If you aren't sure, take some time to think of all the pluses and minuses and decide what to do.

@FlyingDumbo - so sorry you are having dentist issues. The only dentist I trusted recently died. I am a HUGE phobic so now I am avoiding the dentist at all costs again. I need gas just to clean my teeth I am so bad. Hope you can get someone that will make you happy.

Work on the house is progressing, I have ceilings again. Hopefully they will be taped and spackled and ready for the paint saturday. I ordered the carpet. It's a darker gray which I think will complement the lighter walls quite nicely. It's going in the hallway and on the stairs. I am also carpeting the 5 entry way steps for safety reasons. I am worried my husband will slip and fall and that can be disastrous.

My grandson Anthony saw the surgeon today. There is NO hope for a short rehab. He tore the MCL, obliterated the ACL, and badly the bruised bones in his knee. From what my daughter explained the way these things come together forms a sort of square in the knee. There is NO square anymore. To complicate things his growth plates are still wide open. They have to reconstruct the knee without damaging the plates. I feel so bad for him as he lives for sports. Rehab will be about 9 months after surgery so he will be ready to go just in time for baseball next spring. He will have to wear a brace on the knee for all sports for the rest of his life though. I wish I could take all that pain and damage on myself for him.

Not much else going on here. Will chat later.

@TazDev Thank you for the advice and what happened to your DH's best friend. My DS's do want the best for me and they are not forcing me to sell or to do anything. If I decided to stay at the house they would be supportive but worried. I have made a list of pros and cons and honestly do not see a pro but many cons. I can't be cleaning off walkways, driveways, and cars in winter as if I slip and fall it would be disastrous. The house is big and is getting to the age of where it will need some repairs and some cosmetic work should be done too. Chris would be the first one to tell me to do new things, start new routines, and keep the good memories. I have alot of good memories but 2 really bad memories of the house that make it difficult for me to live there. Both my sons know me and know it would be emotionally hard for me to live in the house. Now if I had a dog I would never give up the dog. The dog would be coming along with me. I am just that way with pets. My sons know I am stubborn and would never do what I don't feel is right. It is just that I lived in the house for almost 20 years and it is hard to let go but the good memories and stuff come with me. I will leave the bad memories.

Taz, I am truly sorry about Anthony. He absolutely is in my extra prayers and so are you! Thank you for your kind words. I am truly sorry you have had bad dental experiences. I have never had dental fears (other than of needles). When I needed to have a root canal, I was terrified. Not because of the actual procedure but because, I knew a local anesthetic would be necessary. Sadly at that time, I had no clue of topical anesthetics for dental work. I joined this dental support site. Keep in mind this was back in 2009. I have not been on the site since probably 2010 or 2011. Back then, I was blessed to meet some lovely people including a couple dentists who contributed to the forum. That was how I learned of numbing gel! I would recommend your (and anyone with any dental concerns) checking it out. Maybe I'll see if there is a local dentist recommendation section on it :)

Thank you also, dear Taz for your kind words to Snowysmoms and sharing about your husband's friend. How sad! Keeping that man in prayer :( PLEASE, Snowysmom, indeed, do what is right for YOU! Just saw your post above. You said yourself, my friend. The good memories absolutely will come with you! You are so wise to know that! I am thankful you do.

:grouphug:to all!

Rained most of the afternoon, then stopped, and now it's pouring again. No wind yet, but they say we could get gusts up to 50 mph. Dinner was pork burgers, coleslaw, and fruit salad. Watching Olympics on USA now,,but earlier I watched Amazing Race, Celebrity Big Brother, and General Hospital . Tonites Olympic viewing will be Ladies Free skate on NBC

Have a nice evening all..sleep well!

Speaking of dentists..... as you may remember my sister and I are guardians for our adult. disabled niece. She was long overdue for a dental visit, so she chose a dentist someone at work had recommended to her. This work and cost kept going up and up, latest estimate was over $4,000 in addition to the $2,000 we had already paid. We decided it was time for a second opinion. The new dentist looked at her x-rays did an exam and said she would need about $300.00 worth of work done. This is infuriating, she is disabled and has very limited insurance and funds.

I'm very happy to read you watched some TV today, Lynn. Prayers that means you actually had a quieter, more R&R type of day, my friend. Yikes to the wind! Please stay warm and safe!

Hug, Dazed and thank you for all the extra love and care you and your sister give to your niece and I am sure vice versa. How awful of that second dentist! So sad and plain awful when it seems like anyone is just out for money especially at another person's expense both literally and in this case dental work and possible added stress to go with that for your niece.

Waving hi Easyas. Stay safe!

I’m sorry things didn’t go as well as you’d hoped, @FlyingDumbo123. I think I mentioned here before I had two amazing dentists and both retired. 🥲 With the latest - initially, I/we stuck with the replacement dentist, even though I didn’t feel great about her. Then one day when Mom was in the hospital during a particularly difficult period (broken hip, pain, delerium), one of my fillings fell out. She never responded to my calls or texts. I waited a bit, and texted again. What I got back was a terse tirade saying how busy she was. Done! I/we never went back (whole family).

Meanwhile I’d meandered into a store one day and noticed a newer dental office next door. I went in to meet the staff and liked them very much. Made an appt with the dentist for a cleaning, and needless to say, we’ve all been going there ever since! And they’re great there! So glad we made the move. I hope you can shop around to find someone you’re comfortable with. Read reviews online. I chose my husband’s surgeon for his recent surgery based on reviews that said he really listened, which was important to us. Can you tell us exactly what it is you want in an ideal dentist? I’m not clear from your post, if you don’t mind sharing. Maybe we can help you think it through. Also if you know any dental professionals (dental assistants or hygienists), maybe ask their opinions. There is probably a local forum where you can also ask questions like that. Just be able to identify what qualities it is you are looking for in a new dentist and their staff. I think the initial vibe is important, but it also may take a little time for someone new to get to know what your specific needs are. I guess the key is whether they are willing go work with you on it. Sometimes you can tell right away whether you like someone or not, for sure. At any rate  I know how tough a thing this is for you.

DD had a cute pt this week. He whispered to her, “Come here”. Then he tried to hand her a $100 dollar bill, saying she’d been so nice to him, he wanted to thank her. She said she was very appreciative of the sentiment, but that she couldn’t take it, and he was disappointed, but understood. It made her day, though, just that he cared that much to say thank you for the work she’d done with him. She also had an ethical dilemma which was interesting for her to put into practice since she’s taking an graduate ethics in healthcare class now. We talked it through. It’s been fun watching her grow professionally.

Taz, sorry about Anthony. That’s tough. Over the years DS used to want to play football or basketball with his friends, but I’d heard of so many injuries in those sports from friends and coworkers that we always told him he could if he really wanted to, but that the likelihood was high he was going to wind up injured and missing baseball, which was by far his main sport. It’s hard because it is good for them to do different sports, it uses different muscle sets and develops different skills, etc. But so many injuries. DS had enough injuries with baseball itself. So he stuck with just that. Now he golfs. At any rate, keeping him in my prayers for a smooth surgery and fast and safe recovery. 🙏🏻

B&B, sorry to hear about your back pain. Do you think it was from the move? I hope it starts to feel better soon.

I hope Kirby made it in time to see and say goodbye to her loved one.

Snowysmom, I also agree that you should take your time. This realtor is just getting started! There are so many nice places out there, I’m confident you will find one you love, in a location that works for you, and price you can afford, etc. I can agree that staying in the house would be hard with all the work a house needs and snow removal and landscaping, not to mention repairs and all that. I think the same thing myself/us (planning for all scenarios). DH and I already have a community picked out, if we can afford it (prices are getting crazy, aren’t they?) and if we decide to go, whether it’s one of us or both of us, in retirement. We’ve had our eyes on it for years now, but there are also things about our house that make us say that there are pros about staying here, as well. So things we are giving thoughts to this ourselves, too. Don’t apologize for talking it through, here! We’re all with you on this journey. :flower3:

Hey Easyas! :wave2: Hope you’re having a productive trip!!

This afternoon we grocery shopped, so tonight we pulled out some meatballs and sausages that we’d frozen and threw them in a sauce and made spaghetti while we put things away, with garlic pita bread, which was delish. DH traded me a meatball for a sausage, as we only had enough for one meatball and one sausage each (for four of us). I don’t really like sausages and he loves them, so it worked out. And I only was able to eat one meatball anyway, so I put it away for later. Last night we used a gift card we’d gotten for Christmas at Longhorn, just DH and I, and it was nice. Always a good meal there. I took half home. It‘ll be a work weekend for me coming up. (And now I have food to bring!) I wound up talking to the dog’s foster the other day for quite a while. We both agree on the issues and it probably isn’t going to be the dog for us. I am ok with it. An old friend of mine passed away this week so I was a little sad about that, and said a lot of prayers.

Have a good rest of the week and weekend, everyone! I’ll be reading along even if I can’t respond too much! 🐣

Good evening.

It got up to 65 today but windy and supposed to get even windier tonight.

Today I finished the baby afghan for the newest grandson coming in April. Still have to work the yarn ends in then will take a picture.

I dusted the house and DH did the floors. Tomorrow I will clean the bathrooms. DS and DDIL are coming here tomorrow night. Then Saturday we are all going to DD's house for dinner for my and Tessa's birthdays, which are Monday. This year, the way the calendar falls, GDG, DD, DS, and I all have our birthdays on National Holidays. Tessa and I have President's Day, DD Memorial Day, and DS Columbus Day.

I also got a haircut today. Mostly just a trim and shape. Maybe not as much off I I could have had her do but there is always next time. Then DH and I went to Dollar Tree for gift wrap and cards, and to the liquor store. DD wanted a specific beer as a prize for one of the games at the baby shower next week so got that for her, and a few things for us too.

Dinner was spaghetti and salad. Will watch some Netflix and recorded late night shows later. I am not watching the Olympics. The situation with the Russian figure skater really turned me off.

@daztev, that is too bad for Anthony.

@Snowysmom, glad you like the agent Just take your time.

@flyingdumbo127, sorry the dentist didn't go more smoothly.

I enjoyed Amazing Race last night. I would have liked the pair that had 3 reprieves already to have been eliminated before the two that were. And I like who is winning. They are impressive.

@Pea-n-Me Anthony lives, eats and breathes baseball. But he wanted to try basketball this year. He has never played before and still made the team. This was just a freak non-contact accident. He fell trying to keep the ball in bounds and twisted then landed awkwardly. The doctor did assure him he will be fine with in the year. My daughter took him to the sports medicine specialists at Children's Hospital of PA, or CHOP as we call it. They one of the best hospitals around. She works with some surgeons that actually know the drs. there and are going to make sure he gets the best. His dream is to play pro ball, as it is with many boys. My daughter has been told by several coaches, including the one at the high school he will attend, that he is actually good enough to give it a go. Of course I take it with a grain of salt. He is extremely talented but a movie I love and can NEVER remember the name of for some reason has a quote that I love. Loosely paraphrased it's like hitting the lottery. He does want to pursue sports of some sort when he is older.

My grandson just left and we are on schedule to paint over the weekend and then rip up the floors starting Monday. I need to make sure because I will need to rent a dumpster to toss everything out. I am getting a little excited now that the house is coming together.

I understand completely! Dustin Pedroia wrote a good book. If anyone was ever obsessed with baseball, it’s him. He talks about playing football exactly once in HS, and of course got a huge injury that impacted the rest of his baseball career! It’s a good read! (I remember reading it to DS from his bedside when he was very sick in the hospital once.)

Thank you dear Pea, always for your kindness and care. I appreciate you so much. I am sure sorry that happened to you! Good for you for being so very done with that practice! I have more special dental needs due to my TMJ. I know what works and doesn't. I had emailed the dentist I saw today with this information. I also shared that it's not easy for me to request special treatment or "extras" but I definitely do need it dental wise. He did kindly reply and say he would make note. Long answer short is that for me the main thing is kind understanding and extra care. Indeed, I am looking for someone who will work with me, be patient, and understand that what may work for most patients may not for me. Dr. E absolutely seemed willing to do this which I thanked him for, of course. I just was surprised that he did not already have an ultrasonic. What was "being gentle" to him with the few minutes he cleaned my teeth by hand definitely wasn't gentle to me. He was very upfront and said he will do his best to make it work for me. I appreciated that so much.

As far as an initial feeling about Dr. E is concerned, I'm not sure on that. I truly appreciated his time and that he was so willing to meet me and have the consult we did. Did I feel 100% comfortable with him? No. But I absolutely did not feel uncomfortable either. Lol, I know that's not much of an answer. With Dr. M. I instantly bonded with him and knew how blessed I was. No question God led me to him as He had Pastor Louise put that into His plan. With the dentist I saw before Dr. M after a longer-term dentist had retired, I sadly felt the opposite. That was the doctor who was trying to sell me on all kinds of suddenly needed procedures that would be both very costly and painful to me not to mention have very adverse effects TMJ-wise. I had seen my former dentist at the time who this guy replaced a month before! Had been regularly every 2 months, same as now. At that last visit. Dr. H had said how fantastic everything looked, how proud he was of me, etc. The new dentist, you know I do not care to speak ill of anyone ever and that is not my intention here, just sharing my experience, was out to sell, it seemed. He also was nonchalant about my TMJ. Yep, I didn't go with him! I will pray on it and check into options in the meantime. I am glad to have the later April appointment booked :)

Hooray for getting your haircut, Carol and thank you, my friend. How cool that you and others in your family share a birthday this year with a national holiday. I pray your day is wonderful!

Extra hug, Taz all-around.

Wishing all of you dear Quackers a good night's rest.

Got it. Thanks for sharing! I wasn’t sure what an ultrasonic cleaner was so I had to look it up. I think I had that just once at the new dentist. I’m not sure why they stopped using it - maybe because it sprayed water? With Covid, that became an issue for dental personnel. I will have to ask about it next time I go. (I think I did and that’s what they told me.) Good luck, I will pray, also, that you are able to find a patient, kind and compassionate dentist who can help you. 🙏🏻

@flyingdumbo127 I am glad you met the new dentist and he was kind. It is hard to find a new dentist or doctor especially when you had such a great dentist before. Maybe once he has the ultrasonic cleaner you can try again. Since he is now aware of your needs and seems willing to consider them in your treatment plan, it may work out. I dislike doctors immensely due to insults and weight shaming growing up and as an adult. Finding a new one after my current one retires will be a nightmare so I understand how you feel about finding a dentist.

@TazDev Sending thoughts and prayers your way for your DGS. It sounds like he has great medical care at a great hospital.

@Pea-n-Me Thank you for your words of support. I find now that I am actually in the process of selling that it is not as easy as I want it to be. I do know I can't give the house the care it needs and I can't risk my health with possibly falling on ice or snow. That is a major issue. I figure that I have alot of good memories to take with me. 2021 in the house was a bad year with some bad memories of Jasper being really sick and then of course Chris having his health issues that he would not see the doctor about and then passing away. I will let those stay with the house. I hope a young couple or family buy the house and upgrade it as they have the money.

The guy who looked at my house last weekend called me with an offer. As expected, it is way low. He tried to sell it as no commission or inspection etc. I told him I was still looking at options and had to talk with my kids. Monday I will call him back and respectfully decline. I did tell him I am looking out for me and what I need to buy a new place. Chris thought very highly of this guy and I will mention that too and thank him for his time.

It is very windy here today, rainy, and 55. The temp is supposed to go down later today. Snow showers tomorrow. I am going to the house to meet the carpet cleaner. The real estate agent told me he uses this guy and he is really good. I am glad my research paid off.

Have a nice day.

Just good morning wave here. :wave2:

Nothing big planned for today. Yesterday I helped DH clean up his office a bit - we dusted a lot and decluttered one large and one small shelf. It feels much "lighter" in there.

This morning it is pouring rain and windy.

Good morning all. Rain has stopped finally , but the temp dropped drastically. It was still 56 when I went to bed. It was 37 when I got up and is down to 34..they say the high will be 33. It must have gotten windy last nite (not now though), as I had to pick up a few good sized branches off the black walnut tree, on my way down to get the paper out of the box

Watched ladies free skate last nite..was so disappointed. Though I still think the 15 year old from ROC should not have been allowed to compete, her performance was heart breaking. And I felt sorry for the other 2 ROC girls who watched their teammate go through that. But I am happy that there was at least going to be a medal ceremony, which would not have happened if the 15 year old had skated the way she usually does.

I totally agree. They had more than enough chances, and I was hoping they wouldn't make it through this leg of the race, but once again, they did. I am rooting for the team that is winning right now too!

No plans for the day. Mr L requested a tuna casserole for dinner, as we haven't had it in quite awhile. Will have garlic bread and a salad to go with it

Have a nice Friday everyone!

They sell these on Amazon. It hangs from your rearview mirror. I almost bought one a few weeks ago but then decided that I really didn't need it so I didn't get it. He is cute.

Watched the Olympics last night, it was the women's ice skating finals. All I can say is "wow", what a mess this whole doping incident has turned into. Only the one girl (Japan) was excited that she won a medal.

Working from home today and then working 3rd shift tonight and tomorrow night. Praying I get a little nap in before I go to work tonight.

Speaking of getting a new dentist, I once again have to start looking for a new one >:(. We just got a notice at work that our dental coverage is changing in July to a new carrier. As soon as I saw what it was, I was instantly in a bad mood. My dentist doesn't take it and not too many dentist in my area take it. I work for a major children's hospital and they have always had excellent insurance for their employees, now they are switching to a crappy dental carrier.

I agree with all the Amazing Race watchers on here, I wished that team would have been eliminated last week. They have had way too many 2nd chances but I know the non-elimination rounds were chosen before the start of the show. I also like the leaders and I would actually be happy with any of the top 3 teams to winning. This season is just so boring because of the COVID restrictions.

Need to take Boomer to the vet in a few hours :dog:, yearly check-up. Hoping they can figure out what could be wrong with his ears, he's constantly shaking his head so I know his ears are bothering him but it's not an ear infection, most likely allergies.

Hope everyone has a great day! :yay:

Both a pain to find a new one, and sad that a healthcare business wouldn't choose the best.
