Happy Friday! We've just got some rain so far, but are expecting our version of Elsa later today. So far, my town is not in the heaviest rain path on the prediction map, but we're supposed to get the wind, so we've secured things on the back/pool deck and tipped the basketball net down so it doesn't fall. It's not that hot, but it is wicked muggy, so I'm running the AC for a bit now in case of power loss later.

I have another day off due to our work systems still being down. They may not be up later today but there will be an update later. We have an idea what is going on but they haven't really said yet. I don't mind having the time off but my work is piling up while I am not doing it. My job is daily work, not long term projects. I have the grandkids this weekend so I can't really work alot, maybe a couple of hours. I am anxious that next week will be over the top crazy playing catch up. Deep breath!

@lynxstch It sounds like you are doing all the right things for the best health outcome for your DH. Keep up the good work. He has such a good advocate.

Jasper saw the vet yesterday. He does not have dry eye. He does have inflammation that could maybe be from a microscopic tear but the vet did not see anything even when she stained his eye. So we are going him an antibiotic ointment into his eye. Eyes are the two things that make me nervous and a bit queasy. Thankfully Jasper is letting me pull out his lower lid and put in the ointment and then squish his eyelids together. It probably feels good for him. In my wildest dreams I never would have thought I would become a veterinary nurse. I still think it has to do with allergies as he is licking his paws too. He goes back for a recheck in 2 weeks. He also sees the specialist in 2 weeks. Good thing DH and I are still working as we have 2 vets to support. LOL! I am going to tell the specialist that we are going to have to space out any rechecks as it stresses out Jasper and it stresses out my wallet. If Jasper really needs to go for an issue that is one thing but to check his blood pressure and kidney values every 8 weeks is a bit much. If he is stable at this appointment we can space out rechecks.

The rain is crazy here. We are in the 2-5 inch range. My front yard is part lake at this point. It is supposed to stop later this afternoon. The wind in our area is not supposed to be too bad. We are west of the track of Elsa so we get more rain. DH has to go into the office this morning so it will be a slow commute for him. The 25 minutes will probably be at least doubled.

Happy Friday!

Good morning everyone, hope you all are having a nice morning.

we are headed to the Maryland shore today

have fun - forecast looks like it will be a great couple of days!

I was surprised by how little rain & wind we got. It was more like a gentle soak with a breeze vs. windy and hard rain, even though we were right in the path. Glad for the rain though! Hope you make out ok.

Hope you don't have to play catch up to much this weekend!

It's a very pleasant, breezy and bright day here. Not sure what will be for dinner this evening -

Good Morning Everyone :)

You are indeed a wonderful support and advocate, Lynn. Don is so Blessed to have you!

Hugs, Snowysmom and prayers for Jasper.

My green paper for my bedroom walls are coming today. I'm looking forward to holding the roll up for a minute to a wall to see how it will look :) I'll share later.

To those of you that like me enjoyed the Christmas movie, A Gift to Remember last year about Aidan and Darcy, the sequel is on this coming week. Cherished Memories: Memories: A Gift to Remember 2 airs next Tuesday, July 13th at 11am.

Happy Friday, friends!

Good morning, almost afternoon.

Son-in-law brought both kids this morning for Tessa's swim lesson. I entertained Carter while they were across the street. We had a lovely time. DH took his car in for service. I have a hair appt at 2.

We got minimal rain last night although we were under flash flood precautions. No big storm at all.

May go to the beach tomorrow. DD want to go with the kids and wants us to go and help. Problem is they are an hour closer so we have to leave an hour earlier. Traffic will be bad and the parking lot fills up if you don't get there early. I have to talk myself into being ready to leave at 6:30 am.

Also in the planning stages is a DC meet up with both kids next Friday.

An old friend of mine just posted on FB last night that her 15-year-old daughter got her 2nd cancer diagnosis this week.
That is so sad. Prayers all around.

We are at 90 degrees again. I just got home..stepdaughter is going up to help him with dinner after he has a nap. He was up in the chair for 2 1/2 hours today. Had both occupational and physical therapy there when I got there. 2 of them looked at him and says he looks familiar. The other girl says was he here in inpatient rehab. I said yes, 5 years ago..he is the one who coded in the dining room and you guys saved his life for the second time in a month. She said I thought so, I won't forget that day! We sat and talked while the others were having him walk a little. She asked me if I thought he would benefit from a week or 2 of inpatient rehab to get his strength and confidence back. I said yes, providing Medicare and Aetna will sign off on it. So she was supposed to put in for a consult to see if they will take him up there. Then another respiratory lady from the COPD clinic came in and asked all kinds of questions..then moved his appt up from Sept to Aug,,said it can be a virtual one, fine by me. Then the hospitalist came in..said he's doing good except his potassium is high. They were going to give him something to lower it, along with dextrose and something else and insulin to help get it down. Of course that will bring on more times using the bedpan. He is just tired of all of it and I don't blame him. I got him cleaned up , he shaved and brushed his teeth and his hair..then had lunch. By the time I left he was ready for a nap, but of course then the nurse came in with all the stuff for the potassium and that took about 20 min. When she was done, I said if anyone else has anything else to do..have them do it now. So they did his vitals. So unless he needs to use the bedpan, they should leave him alone for at least an hour to sleep. The hospitalist said they will do labs tomorrow and if the level is down, they will talk about discharge, so I made it known to him that they are going to try and get him in upstairs..he is not ready to come home yet. Not strong enough!

This is funny. After I called the nurse at 4 am...he went in hubby's room to check on him . When I got there this morning, the PT girl was laughing and said someone left you a message. I looked at his leg and written on the gauze it said To Lynn..From David..changed at 6 am..lol After all the hullabaloo last nite about them not having the pads to slide people up in beds, and had no gauze, he listened to my complaint and went and got some and changed it. At least someone there listened! His daughter was about to have arguments with them last nite about a hospital not having supplies like that. But she likes to exaggerate and cause drama..so I have a feeling she just misunderstood the CNA about the gauze. At least it got changed for the night, and got changed again this morning.

I am so tired. I think I am just going to curl up with my furbabies and take a nap for an hour or so. He made a comment, thinking he was being funny I guess..saying 'are you happy that I am out of your hair for another day', and I burst into tears. No honey, I am not happy. I don't want you hear,,but I don't want you coming home and not being ready and ending up back here--MEN!

Have a nice afternoon all..

Calcium, lol. They might recheck the level this afternoon or tonight, as well as an ECG. Kudos to David, he made you happy and I can see your smile through your words. It sounds like people know and like your DH there, that is a blessing. Tell daughter don’t argue with the nurses about not having gauze, it’s not their fault: take it up with hospital administrators and/or department managers. Same with not having lifts, if they don’t. He’s improving so that’s great. Hope going to rehab works out. I’m sure you want him home, but it will behoove you to have him stronger and more independent before he does. Glad you’re able to relax a little and get some rest yourself. Caregiving is super hard work. :flower3:

"I am so tired."

Lynn, of course you are! Worrying over keeping on top of the situation, exhaustion and lack of sleep can be draining. I hope the coming days can bring you some peace and a good nap! Sounds like they know you are the squeaky wheel that demands grease in the hospital, and that information is forthcoming about your husband being in the rehab facility. I've got my fingers crossed for you & him the next week goes fast!

Looks like I will be picking up a new foster dog tomorrow morning...I was supposed to get one a week or so ago but it fell thru last minute, so we will see if this one happens. Sounds like it will -We will see!

There was a large snake on the patio under the porch this morning. ickickick! I watched it slither back along the brick wall and behind the dogs new shed. I told my husband that he will need to remove the snake, clear the area, have a exorcism performed and proclaim the area sanitized before I go down there again! Also I'll now need a bodyguard with me at all times down in that area  I am irrational about snakes, I fully admit it. But it was big! Easily 4' long, and lumpy like it had just enjoyed breakfast...ugh. Gross.

Today has been fairly quiet (besides finding out about the new dog coming to stay with us) and boring. I'm looking forward to sitting out on the porch later -

you lost me on the calcium? noone said anything about calcium? Its potassium that's too high and they gave him 2 bottles of some sweet tasting stuff, then 2 dextrose something..then insulin and then something along with saline in ivs..I can't remember the name of it, but it was a long name. The Dr said they will do labs tomorrow morning to check the potassium level, and they did an EKG yesterday and another one this morning. I told Summer (stepdaughter) it wasn't the nurses fault, I did take it up with the department manager today. Got the same thing..understaffed, overworked, etc. But the laundry did have things caught up at least for today, so maybe the weekend will be easier for them.
I agree that I want him stronger before he comes home so we don't start a merry go round cycle of ending up back there every week. Figure this one..since last Friday, not one spam or robocall phone call. I was home to take a nap, and 5 calls within an hour. I finally turned the ringer down, since the hospital has my cell phone number if noone answered the landline.

I hate snakes..Summer (stepdaughter) called her hubby before she left to go home the other day..and he told her he had found a copperhead, in their bedroom..yikes! That is the second snake in 2 weeks..and they had a flying squirrel or something the week before that..they think they are coming in through the dog door..I told her to nail it shut!!!

I also am not a snake fan at all! Yuck. In fact when I lived in the dorms my first semester, snakes became the rage for some unknown reason. On my floor there were people with them. My roommate at the time wanted to get a snake. Eek! She clearly knew how I felt. It would have been easy for her to have moved in with someone else in our small wing who also had a snake. Yes, I do realize I could have done the same! I just thought since there were other snake fans right there, that would be the first step to at least have both of us talk with such roommates (one fan, one not) and see how they felt about switching. Never happened. Long story short, all I can say is what a great thing it was that I was NOT in the room or even in the dorm when the snake escaped under my bed. The thought all these years later is still icky!

Thank you, Easyas for rescuing another pup. I look forward to seeing his picture.

I pray you are resting Lynn!

I wish I was..but I am dealing with yet another hospital problem..and it is really ticking me off. Summer was there for his dinner, he had ordered a pb and j sandwich, milk, and jello I think. He asked for another carton of milk and they said no..she went to the desk and asked for a cup of ice water..the secretary said she had to get permission from his nurse..that he's on a fluid restriction? I lost it,,called the desk myself and asked what was going on. According to her, he's been on fluid restriction since Monday? That dietary decided that?? I do not think so.. I am pretty sure that is not a decision that dietary can make..and his Dr never mentioned a thing to either of us about it. 5 days later and this comes up??? This morning he had 3 cups of ice water on his tray when I got there..he didn't drink any of them. I brought him a lemonade yesterday and an ice tea today, and noone said a word to me. He had tea and juice and milk with his breakfast and ice tea with his lunch (their ice tea tastes like flowers and he can't stand it, so I got him a Gold Peak). I am getting beyond angry at this point. She told me I had to talk to his nurse about the Ensure dietary keeps bringing him too . I said oh don't worry, I will be talking to his nurse, his Dr AND dietary first thing tomorrow morning. I have had enough. Summer is fuming,,I am fuming,,and Don is thirsty. Since he's no longer on iv fluids,,why would they be restricting his fluids anyhow. I do not need all this added stress they are causing everyone!

Good evening everyone.

Busy day, did laundry, took my husband to get his haircut, stopped at the bank, and tried to find a new pair of sneakers. I need white and not leather for the summer since the pair I had evidently caused the blister. I can only get New Balance so tomorrow will be going to the malls in the area hoping I can find something.

@lynxstch - I agree your husband should stay in rehab to get his strength back. After my husband's second stroke I refused to bring him home without more rehab and thankfully the drs. agreed with me. He was so unsteady on his feet and our staircase is right outside the bedroom door. I had nightmares of him falling down the steps and breaking his neck. That extra time was so helpful.

I agree with everyone I HATE snakes. My family had a thing for keeping them as pets. My dad would go snake hunting with my brothers. We took a vacation up the mountains when my son was only about 3 and my dad took him out to teach him the art of snaking. They found one and brushed my arm with the snake when they came in the cabin. I thought it was a mouse and leaped about 6 feet in the air. I screamed louder when I saw it was a snake.

My brother had a python when he was a teenager. He got it from a friend. Pythons aren't venomous but they do bite. I stood on the couch screaming as this humungous snake was hanging from my brothers arm and my mom was calling the doctor. The dr. was used to these calls. My other brother had a garter snake named Herman. Herman escaped one day and I was terrified to go in my room. As I was leaving the house a couple days later I yelled in to my brother I found Herman. He was in my cat's mouth. My brother has never forgiven me for not getting Herman away from the cat. The snake died a day or so later. My brother chased me around the house and tormented me with that snake and he knew I hated snakes. I wasn't touching it.

Oddly my granddaughter loves snakes. She has found several and always wants to keep them. Thankfully she has been convinced by my dad that they should stay in the wild where they belong. I just tell her no snake is ever getting in my car.

Hope everyone has a nice evening.

You said he had heart failure, right? Fluid restriction is part of that order set usually, and would be ordered by his admitting doctor.

He just called me and his nurse was in the room. She said they don't usually tell patients they are on fluid restrictions. All fine and good , but they have not been restricting it since Monday, this all just started tonite at dinner! She apologized and said someone has something crossed along the lines somewhere. She will leave word for the night nurse and for dietary to come and talk to me tomorrow. What gets me is the 3 cups of water on his tray (untouched), the juice, tea, milk at breakfast, ice tea at lunch, but he can't have a small extra carton of milk at dinner? She said there was something wrong somewhere,,cause his fluid intake was fine for the day and he should have been allowed the extra milk. One person says one thing, someone else says something else..and we sit here confused ! 588115

The nurse just called me back before she left, and said everything will be straightened out tomorrow..we shall see!
