Looking for pictures of my mom, today would have been her 100th birthday if she was still with us. Found this one of the Jim Henson statue on the University of Maryland campus.
It’s so funny you should mention this. This morning I wrote on the group text w my sibs that this week our Dad would’ve been 102! Really kind of hard to believe! I hope your pictures brought you warm memories. 🌷
Love the pictures everyone is posting, I should really figure out how to do that one of these days.
If you go to Attach Files, you can go to your own Picture files. Once you do that, just click on the picture you want, hit Add, then it will show up in the bottom of your post. Just hit Full Size and it will go into your text. One secret we’ve learned here is that in order to not have your picture post sideways, it’s helpful to Edit it before you upload it. All you have to do is use the Edit feature on your phone and crop just a little sliver off the picture in order for it to be considered edited as far as these posts are concerned. It takes a little practice, but once you learn how, it’s fairly easy. Another way you can do it is to just Copy a picture by holding down on it, then Pasting it in a post. I usually do it that way if it’s not one of my own pictures.

@apirateslifeforme, so sorry to read about your uncle. Your family has had too many losses recently. 😟 I do love your signs! Very cheery and colorful! Can you sell them somewhere like a Farmer’s Market? Or a local gift shop?

PollyannaMom, I do remember DEAR! We also had BEAR (Be excited about reading). Then there was Sustained Silent reading. Dear and Bear much cuter :) I hope the kids had fun a T-ball.
I don't remember a DEAR week but the Librarian at the elementary school that my kids went to held a BEAR week. The object was to take a bear and make a scene of some sort. Like DS got a medium box and made a plumber bear with a water heater and everything. All entries were judged by people outside the school at the end of the week. DS won a blue ribbon for his plumber bear. The kids got really creative and if you didn't have a bear you could use whatever stuffed animal you had.

@tazdev3225, speaking of short hair, we have ours cut the same. I love my short hair, just wash, brush back and go.

@apirateslifeforme, So sorry to hear about your uncle. And glad to hear that your mom was willing to quit claim her house to you. A smart idea. There is something similar here that we can do for our kids so our home, if we still own it when we pass, will go straight to them with no probate.
I love your signs, especially Autumn.

I love puzzles! The last one I did, and will pass it along to a friend!
My mother used to trade puzzles with my SIL, she also donated puzzles to the local Assisted Living Facility when she was done with them. I like to take puzzles on trips with us when we rent a house. Then I leave them there for someone else to enjoy.

The sun finally came out today. We have probably another day and a half of sunshine and then it's back to rain and gloom all next week. At least that's what is in the forecast. If it doesn't hurry up and get warm and sunny my tomatoes are not going to want to produce much. I did go out and take a look at them this evening. Four out of five plants have little tomatoes growing.

Dinner tonight was left over rotisserie chicken tacos.

WDW is no longer requiring masks outside, only in queues, in rides, restaurants, shops, etc.
 (we will still probably mask up if it's really crowded or people aren't distancing the way we're supposed to. but to not have to have it on the whole day......yes!)

We just bought like $150 in masks to prepare for our trip and for DH going back to work. :sad2: It took him this long to find a mask he likes...

Good Saturday morning DIS family. Chilly 40 out there now, but going to lower 70's. Maybe rain tomorrow, maybe not (my headache says more maybe than not though, lol). I woke up at 1 am and both of my knees were aching, and I didn't do anything yesterday to make them do that..just another sign of old age I guess. Going to try to till the garden and put down another dose of fertilizer to ready the soil for tomatoes.
@Kirby--we won't see little tomatoes until the end of June , might be the beginning of it before we can even plant them!

Our mask mandate ends today too, for outdoors. Still have to have one indoors, some places are taking down their signs, which they shouldn't be doing yet, IMO!

Have a nice morning everyone!

Good Morning everyone. Going to mid 70's today and no ball games. Same temperature is called for tomorrow and Anthony has a double header. I will remember sunblock this time.

@Kirby I totally agree. I love the wash brush and go style. I have hated long hair since I was really little. I still remember my first short haircut. I was 6 years old, it was George Washington's birthday and my aunt took me to her beauty school. My mom thought I was getting a trim she gave me a pixie cut. I was so happy. My mom made me grow it long again. As soon as I could rebel I did and I never looked back.

I think I may do some gardening today. I need to put plants in my garden out front and weed. I need to get a good pair of gardening gloves and some weed I have out front has thorny spikes and boy do those things hurt. I have had people comment on my sanity as I need to plant everything so that each side is a mirror reflection of the other and no two colors can be next to one another. The 2 small family garden centers near me have closed down as the owners were older and their kids didn't want to take over. I hate the Big Store selections so I may spend some time on google trying to find a new center. There are certain flowers I really like beyond marigolds to add color and variety.

Hope everyone has a good Saturday.

Love all the puzzles and hearing about people outside at games. Most of our sports have been in the40/50s requiring me to still wear gloves and hats, I get cold easily. So happy it suppose to be 70 today. Below is a photo of a baseball puzzle , my youngest did recently with his grandma and had it framed to put in his room. The other is a Mickey one my sister-in-law did for us years ago, when you look closely it has scenes from lots of Disney movies.9D1ACD2D-ED1B-4BCA-A850-42275FE10223.jpeg212EC4D5-985E-4C9F-ABF9-461196ACEDC3.jpeg212EC4D5-985E-4C9F-ABF9-461196ACEDC3.jpegFD68B38C-13D8-45E0-84A9-6CE4024CFC3F.jpeg

@tazdev3225 I would love to see pics of your 'mirror image flowers', it sounds so pretty. All of my flower planting got done yesterday. I did want to split up the hosta..but I just don't have the energy,,so they can just sit there and grow as they are, lol!

The shortest I have ever had my hair, (and I am going to date myself on this one, lol), was when Olivia Newton John's 'Physical' song came out..and I got my hair cut as short as hers. That was fine when I was 16/17, but now I wouldn't want it that short. I have to look up some hairstyle websites and find something I like, because this long hair has to go.

@sparkle78..I love that Mickey puzzle,,and yep , if you look really close at the bottom one, you can see different movies in it. Cool!

All of my get up and go, had gotten up and left. I stripped and remade the bed, washed the linens and hung out to dry. Dusted and vacuumed our bedroom. Tilled the garden 2x,,once on deep once on shallow. I just finished weedwacking the whole yard again, and the stupid bank out front. Some morons from the State decided to come and dig out everyone's 'gulley's and took out all the rocks and stuff..well they dug too deep, and the water doesn't reach the storm drains anymore, so there is always standing water in them. And I refuse to stand in water to try and weedwack the bank. I did what I could reach, the best I could. If they don't like it,,they can get guys from the prisons to come and clean them instead!

I am done for the day except to water everything in the greenhouse and do a beauty treatment..it's so beautiful outside..68 and a nice breeze, sunshine galore.

Enjoy the day!

Happy Saturday Quacker Family,

I enjoyed reading so many new shares. Always enjoy puzzle pictures and shares of planting, too. Lilac bushes sound so pretty, DazedX3. I hope you got some good rest last night and are feeling better this morning!

Kirby, I LOVE the bear story! How fun and cool. That might make a great post pandemic photography camp project. this is not at all similar but for some reason brought back the memory. One year as a preschool teacher, I got a new stuffed animal for our classroom. Each weekend one of the children got to take it home with them. The following week, if the parents were able to, the child shared a picture or just a story of something the animal did with them and their family. It was cute to see the class stuffed animal friend at different places.

🐥🌸❤ to all.

We got back from WDW yesterday. It was really a nice trip and so much needed. I didn't realize how much I needed to get away from it all until I got there. We got on all the rides we wanted. I like the 4 outdoor coasters. The longest line we waited in was 50 minutes for Slinky Dog Dash. We park hopped to Studios after AK. Good thing we did as the ride was 70 minutes the morning we went back to Studios and Toy Story Mania was 60 minutes while we only waited 20 minutes when we park hopped. The Skyliner is very fun and easy to navigate. We traveled the whole way from Studios and back again. Boulder Ridge was nice and I really liked Wilderness Lodge. Jasper did well at the kennel. They said he was sweet and well behaved. He is eating and sleeping today. He never eats well away from home. he is making up for it now.

Tomorrow our middle grandson turns 4. Party time with the whole family. It should be a nice day.

Happy Saturday everyone!Beauty and Beast.jpg

I'm enjoying all the pictures people are sharing, especially the baseball puzzle one. I've lived my entire life in the metro St. Louis area, which means I basically have no choice but to be a big Cardinals fan. Ha!

Yesterday marked two weeks out from my 2nd vaccine. I celebrated by getting out of the house and DOING things today! Not that I haven't been doing some things, but I've also be trying to stay home as much as possible. So today I get my oil changed, just in time for drastically increased miles on the car for work commute, since I"m back in the office full time starting on Monday. I also got my emissions test done (required to renew your license plate here), and got a spare key made. I got my vaccination card laminated (or a copy of it, at least) for free at Office Depot. I walked around Hobby Lobby a bit (but didn't buy anything). I went to big Walmart (instead of just the market that only has the groceries) and got some bathroom stuff I've been needing. I went to another local grocery store and got myself some stuff for lunches that's not just the same ol' same ol' I've been getting from Walmart delivery. If felt weird to be out that much in one day! Weird, but mostly good, even if I still got a bit nervous. Things going back to "normal" (or at least close to it) is going to take some adjusting! Never thought I'd say that, to be honest.

I am very much looking forward to Thursday, and particularly Thursday evening. I'll share pictures, but will be the culmination of something I've been working on for... awhile. Depends on how you count. I'll explain all on Thursday night or Friday, I promise. Sorry to make you wonder, but I've got to spread out my anticipation. :D

Color me jealous! So glad you had a good trip..we all need a getaway after the last year! Glad Jasper did well at the kennel,,bet he's glad to be home! Have a great birthday party tomorrow!!!

Now I see WDW says you don't have to wear masks outside. I could have used that policy when I was trying to breathe hot, humid air through my mask! Oh well, next trip should be better for that. :D

It will be nice to get back to some semblance of normalcy hopefully. Our governor makes his pronouncement about the new guidelines next week. I am not sure how it will go but I am not overly optimistic.

Your memory reminds me of Flat Stanley. I bet those kids had a blast with that stuffed animal!

@Allison Joy, congratulations on being done with your two weeks! I wish DH would get his vaccine done. Texas is pulling all the doses away from the doctors now, he won't be able to get his doses as easily as I did. I like surprises! Looking forward to hearing yours.

This is Lil Joe's weekend with his dad. Lil Joe had a make up game scheduled for 9:00 this morning. We arrived to see him play and no Lil Joe. She went to the dug out to ask if they had seen him and one of the assistant coaches told her that he wasn't on the lineup. The coach was at home plate so she couldn't talk to him to see if he knew anything and we didn't stay around to ask. It would have been nice if her ex had told her that he wasn't going to bring Lil Joe to his game. Carol doesn't want to cause trouble or bring the coaches into their issues so we may never find out why he wasn't there.

Since we didn't stay at the game we headed over to the Farmers Market. Two Saturdays ago, being the 1st Saturday of the month, there was a lot of activities scheduled for all day and lots of vendors to visit but everything was canceled due to the chance of rain. Movers and Shakers (vendors) were rescheduled for today but with it also being Founders Day and that celebration being held at the city park, there were not many extra vendors other than the usual Farmers Market ones, they were all over at Founders Day. We did have a good time, bought a cup of coffee from a vendor that I've been wanting to try, beef jerky, chocolate chip cookies and a slice of carrot cake. We stopped at a new dessert store on the square and wouldn't you know that they had slices of that cake that someone posted about here recently. I wish now that I had bought a slice. (It sounds like I eat a lot of sweets sometimes but I really don't, a bite or two and I'm done, I always give the rest to everyone else. We don't keep many sweets around the house.) DD bought cold coffee from different vendor, croutons which are very good (we will be buying more of those) and a fourth of a watermelon that is pretty good considering it's really early in the season for them. There's this one vendor that sells cakes made into loaves. They look delicious and you see people all over the market with them. I've been tempted to buy one but DH would be the one that ended up eating most of it. Maybe I'll have company one weekend and I can buy one to share to see what they taste like. That's all I want, just a taste!

Been doing laundry, vacuumed yesterday with the GKs help. Still need to clean the bathroom but that may be put off until tomorrow. And planted some caladiums in my pots on the front porch. I had put bulbs in them but they are slow to grow, I know it's due to the weather. I also planted a pot of moss rose on the side of the hosta bed to give it some color. I'm pretty sure that it will get enough sun there. Anything I do in the yard is an experiment anyway, I'm all the time changing things up if they are annuals.

Dinner tonight will be hamburgers and fries.

Hug, Snowysmom and welcome home to you and Jasper! So glad you had fun at WDW and that Jasper did well at the kennel. He must be happy to have his family around again :dogdance: Happy Birthday celebrating tomorrow to your middle grandson.

Congratulations to you Allison on your 2 week mark. I’m glad to read you were able to do some browsing. I look forward one day to going to Hobby Lobby! A mystery! I am happy you have something to so look forward to and will enjoy reading what you want to share about it next week :)

Lynn, I hope one day you will have a fun getaway or maybe a couple day at least home vacation where you just rest and do fun things.

Kirby, the kids did have fun. Looking back it might have meant a bit more had the stuffed animal used been part of our preschool family longer than it was, still fun experience. Prayers Lil Joe is A-okay and just got caught up doing something else with his Dad today.

Have a good evening, friends :)

Hi everyone. Just a quick check in.

Been busy getting ready for the party tomorrow. I fixed french toast for us for breakfast then at 8:30 started mowing the grass with the riding mower, DH weed wacked and did the push mowing. Also cleaned the downstairs. I dusted and cleaned the powder room and DH vacuumed. Had a lunch break then deviled 18 eggs and finished making potato salad. DS and DDIL arrived and I had no dinner planned so we went out. I am tired. Going to peel and cut up some carrots for a veggie platter then done for the night.

Have a good evening everyone.

Still have to have one indoors
Forgot this from above. Hogan did lift that mandate but local governments can chose to keep it. Per the Baltimore Sun "
Starting Saturday, Marylanders no longer need to wear masks to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in most settings, Gov. Larry Hogan announced Friday evening.
Masks still will be required on public transportation and in schools, airports, day care centers and health care facilities, such as hospitals and doctors’ offices. Local governments and individual businesses can opt to keep mask requirements in place."

Of course, we went to dinner in Delaware so wore a mask unless eating, as did the wait staff.

Had a busy day yesterday. Got a lot done around the house - sheet changes, blanket washing, vacuuming, straightening up, clothes laundry, mail and catalog/advertisement sorting, paid some bills, etc. DH did the outside stuff including running to the dump, vacuuming the pool, some errands, and had to meet his sister to sign some estate papers, etc. We both got tired and dozed a bit in the sunroom. Decided to order out instead of go out as by the time we saw DD off to work, we knew lines would be long and didn’t want to deal with that. Got Italian (chicken parm for him and chicken marsala for me), Caesar salad and garlic bread. All very good. :lovestruc We only ate half so will get another meal out of them.

This coming week I have to take care of some of Mom’s estate stuff. Ugh. I hope I never have to deal with something like this again. 😨 I have to go to her bank (where this one lady is like Gladys Kravitz) and take out her money, then go to another bank (better there but did have problems with one guy there in relation to all this who my lawyer recently said was wrong, which felt good, but he made me so mad at the time) and open an estate account, do some transfers there, etc. I did get a check from an insurance company I’ve been battling the other day, finally, have to deposit that. (And thankfully they made it out the way I asked them to which the girl I was dealing with insisted they couldn’t all along.) Got two bills from the lawyer totaling almost $500 for phone calls and emails he answered from me. 😳 Ready for this to be done. Still have to also deal with the car (clean and sell). There are more steps once all this is all taken care of. I’ve realized that emotionally, this has taken a lot out of me, for a long time. Caring physically for Mom was easier than this part.

DH and I talked a little bit about our future retirement last night (still several years away) and thinking of dealing with all that sort of brought up similar feelings. (No wonder sleep is off!) I think financially we’ll be in pretty good shape, but if all goes as we’re thinking, it might just be an issue for health insurance for me for a few years. I could get it through work if I work part time, but I will make too much if I am getting SS (before full benefit - DH and I are five years apart so he will be at full benefit at that time). So will have to play with the numbers there. Our first goal was to get our kids through college (which we did 🙏🏻) and then tackle this. We’ve just had to deal with these parent issues since, so once these are settled we can think more about it and sit down with someone at some point to get a concrete plan going. One of the big questions I think will be whether to stay in this house or not. It’s relatively small, but the bills are high. (High COL area in general.) We know we don’t want to go out of state. Might not mind, but don’t want to be away from kids/future grandkids. Getting away for winters might be a possibility. We also have a legal in law apt we could rent (and an income from that would be nice), but it would depend who was there as it is quite a big part of our own home. I would love something newer and smaller where outdoor things (snow, grass) are taken care of. There’s an area we like but not sure it will be affordable. Will have to crunch the numbers. (Real estate values have accelerated in the past 8 months.) But I think about how much this house will cost to run with the utilities being so high, and repairs of an older house factored in, too. (And the thought of emptying it out after over 32 years is :faint: , of course!) I imagine many of you have either been through this or are thinking about this, as well.

QOTD: How did you/will you manage retirement?

I mentioned the other day I’d had a tough week. And I wasn’t even talking about any of this, just work. :lmao: Well, like a godsend, out of the blue yesterday morning I got an unexpected phone call with some work news that made me feel quite happy! It’s funny how that seems to happen to me whenever I need it most. :goodvibes I do believe in the power of the universe. (I’d say prayer, too, but this wasn’t something I’d even prayed about!) I’ve tried to impart to my kids that, if you live a good life, and give of yourself, good things come back to you. DS had a little trouble recently he was up for a job that was a very good opportunity for him, and it was great that his application was chosen out of many. Unfortunately he had to withdraw his name because of a physical issue that came up that he is now in physical therapy for. Watching him fighting to try to overcome it, and the realization that he had to withdraw, was heartbreaking. But I tried to tell him that, for whatever reason, it wasn’t meant to be right now, and to stick with the faith that a different time and path is meaningful, too - you just have to believe it. When one door closes, another opens, etc. Any good thoughts or prayers for him will be appreciated. He wishes to serve (and does in his current job, too) and I know he’ll be good at it, as he is kind and compassionate, and very devoted to whatever he sets his mind to. Thank you.
