Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Hi all,

I was anticipating such busy week but I'm stepping in to help with overflow from my old job and I'm teaching classes online this week. Today is world suicide prevention day. I'm not going to preach about this but to simply say that anyone and everyone can help to try prevent suicide. There are classes to help get someone prepared to have conversation about it. I haven't had conversation with someone I know in months and this week I had two. My family lost my nephew 4 years ago next month to suicide. It's miserable. And it's only death we can truly work to prevent. If anyone wants some resources or websites for classes, please let me know. For those involved in church, this is great class for church groups because they tend to have specific set thoughts /feelings but the classes at least helps them juggle the emotions while having the hard talks.

Off my box now: We refinanced our house yesterday. We didn't save that terribly much but it was few hundred a month, which is always a win. I'm giving in to decorate for fall this weekend. I feel like I might as well quit trying to fight that fall is coming and coming soon. Heck football is here!! Wooooo go Colts!!! We will be wearing our jerseys (I didn't really want one....) and having some football food this weekend. We deferred our season tickets until next year. Just not worth the risk. Now ask my husband in another month if the Colts are winning and he may be front and center lol.

I'm jealous of crabs and fresh crab for cakes or those with access to fresh seafood! I love it and my absolute favorite. When we lived in D.C. we would go to this mom and pop place in MD for crabs. I swear it was someone's house that had some picnic tables and someone would go out grab a pot of crabs from the water, boil, and pour on the table. The first time I was like what the heck and what's the little hammer for? We had great time that evening with couple beers and the crabs and talking with the mom and pop.

Gratitudes:
My mom is doing very well this week and thankful to be where she is and in good spot mentally and physically
I'm thankful for the education and understanding and courage to help those brave enough to reach out for help
The support and love from my husband even when he makes us wear stupid football jerseys

A few hundred a month - that's great! Every little bit, right?

My husband and sons are jazzed up about football this year as well, no doubt since my husband has been a KC fan for over 30 years and after years of them losing bad, they finally won, and they are really looking to this evenings game. Plus Directv gave us free NFL Sunday ticket (musta overheard us talking about switching to Dish Network :happytv:) . I can take or leave football, mostly leave.

It is another rainy day here, and I think maybe t-storms this evening? Of course, a few days ago I decided to place a grocery pick up for after work today, and now I feel bad cause some poor kid has to schlep my groceries out to me in the rain later today. I also need to pop out to the bank and the pharmacy to pick up a RX, which I think I'll do shortly.

No idea about supper tonight!

I hope you are serving some "football" food tonight for the KC game! We are having home made calzones and salad tonight. We are having easy meals this week with weird schedule we are having. I like football but I can't watch for hours. I don't have the attention span and it's worse at games. More than once I've been caught on the big stadium camera reading a book to his huge embarrassment so now I put the game program around my paperback to hide it and save him face lol

I must admit, I thought about picking him up some wings!
Honestly, it may come down to how hard it's raining out haha!!

We had rain overnite, rain this morning, and though they predicted storms this afternoon and tonite, at the moment the sun is shining and the temps are quickly rising. Never know when the weathermen are going to be right or wrong. All I know , is that I am not sad that the ground is wet and I can skip mowing till at least tomorrow, lol!

Thanks for the suicide prevention PSA @lovemygoofy . We are very worried about our 14 year old granddaughter falling into that category. All of her FB posts lately make us wonder if she's been thinking of it, to the point that I flat out asked my stepdaughter if she should be seeking professional help for her. Come to find out (and total news and a shock to us ) that she's already been taking her to a therapist and that it's 'under control', or she hopes it is. All the posts say that she's sad, lonely, laying outside under the stars late at night 'thinking', ,things like that, that made us worry. She's always been an outgoing, sports loving, religious girl, and the comments that she's been making lately, lead us to all of this worry. I think that being out of school and away from her friends since March have had a lot to do with it. She is back at school today for the first time, so maybe things will start looking up for her again. Stepdaughter is not sending the other granddaughter to school at all, but doing it 100% virtually , she has a kidney issue and she doesn't want her immune system to be compromised more than it already is.

Hubby is on an 8 hour zoom meeting, so I can't make a lot of noise, so taking a 'me' day again, lol
Have a wonderful Thursday everyone!

Prayers for your stepdaughter, Lynxstch indeed! This has to be such a hard time especially for kids. I feel extra for them. I am glad she has a therapist who seems to be helping. Is she involved in her church youth group? Perhaps connecting still to kids and the adult head that way would make a difference and/or even being a pen pal to someone from home? Hugs.

Glad you have a mowing free day! :)

I didn't want to "like" this so I'm sending *hugs* This country is having big rates of youth suicide as young as 7 unfortunately. There some great resources around for the youth or those wanting to know more to help that age group. I'm so glad your granddaughter is getting some help and I hope that today is a great day at school.

Thank you @flyingdumbo127 She was involved in the church youth group a lot, before Covid. They have not started it back up yet, so thats out until they restart it. She had met her best friend throught it and they were together constantly before the virus. When they couldn't see each other for months, they kind of went their separate ways. Now the other girl has a boyfriend, and started being very unfriendly towards our granddaughter, to the point that she had to block her on FB. I think all of this has caused her way too much stress and contributed to a lot of what is going on with her.

It has cooled down here......at least for a few days. So nice to walk out and not get blasted with heat.
Back from grocery shopping......one person not wearing a mask, in the produce department of all places :(
I told the florist (it is right by produce) and she told him to leave or wear one. He had one in his pocket

Movie day here and pick up burgers at Carl's Jr.

Best wishes to all in the fire plagued areas :( It has been quite a year.....weather, virus, etc

Suicides very sad. DH's aunt killed herself (many years ago now). Her daughter found her......and even sadder she also found her father who also killed himself years earlier.
I know people are feeling depressed now, please seek help!!
Tina, thank you for being there to help

I am so sorry, Lynxstch. Sometimes teen drama can be quite cruel indeed :( I also think that may very well have not helped her state of mind :( One other idea I had is I know so many seniors right now especially feel completely alone, particularly those living in Assisted Living places where they are pretty much trapped in their room. Maybe in your area there is senior email or even snail mail pen pal program? Both your stepdaughter and a senior could brighten each other's lives and days that way. Does your stepdaughter like to cook or bake at all? I know one person who each weeks delivers part of something she has made with family to those in need. I remember our own Heidi and her daughter do likewise. Maybe some type of active connection where she can know she is currently making a positive difference and is so appreciated (by someone besides family) might help. I am keeping all of you in extra prayer, my friend.

Hug to you as well, Meriweather, how horribly sad :( I do remember many years ago when I was working at a school age program one summer a very tragic experience. Looking back I wish I had chosen to stay there as opposed to return to directing preschool. Two of the children at the program had a parent who one day tried to commit suicide. The parent did not succeed. I keep that family in prayer!

Tina Thank you for the suicide prevention message. Suicide of all age groups is on the increase since Covid and the lockdowns began. So sad. I read that suicide increased alot among middle aged women. My DDIL's step mother is deeply depressed to the point of not even getting up in the morning. They are seeking help for her so hopefully she can see life in a better light eventually.

It is a muggy warm day today. Thunderstorms are predicted. I was in the office this morning as usual for Thursday and it seems like a couple more people came in to work in addition to us regulars. People are probably getting sick of working from home all the time. Our company is optimistic that travel will pick up in 2021. People are ready to go on vacations. I may not get all my hours back right away but at least there is hope for better times.

I need to find the fall leaf tortilla chips. A Trader Joe's visit is in my future. Those with Trader Joe's less guilt guacamole would be so good.

Those leaf tortilla chips are so cute.

Tina, thanks for the PSA. One of my contemporaries at church's son died by suicide. He was the same age as my DD. My friend started a survivors of suicide group that meets at our church. She explained to me why I should not say "committed suicide." Then another friend's husband died by suicide back when her son and my son, who were best friends, were in first grade. So very sad.

And another thing Tina, I really like you....except for the Colts part. But I can let that slide.

I am fortunate and sometimes take for granted that I can get crabs and seafood so easily.

@easyas123, no real rain here yet but soooooo humid. BTW, we are going to Crooked Hammock with DD for lunch tomorrow.

Dinner tonight is mahi mahi with Spanish rice and tomatoes, all cooked in one dish.

Bumping this thread back up!

Here it's muggy-ish. The sky is still dark for daytime due to all the fire pollution :( It really feels so much later than it is and timeless, too!

Prayers for your DDIL's Stepmother, Snowysmom.

That is so sad, Carol :(

Thank all of you kind friends on here for making a difference! :)

Granddaughter had a great first day of school. She was thrilled to be with her friends again, so I have hopes that her moods will start to improve. It was cloudy, but still not too hot, and not muggy, so I did manage to mow at least 1/2 of the lawn. Back was still too wet, so will do that tomorrow. Also moved the brush pile of broken branches from the back corner to the middle of my now empty garden so I can burn it when the weather cools down. Now the sky is pitch black and looks like we are in for a storm. From Baltimore to DC and the shore are supposed to be getting some bad ones with flooding, including the beaches :( Have a nice evening everyone,,keep this thread going, it helps all of us in a lot of ways!

Yes it really does help. I work with middle schoolers , such a hard time for them in their normal adolescent life, but now so much more complicated. For those that are parents, grandparents, aunties, or kind friend...take a walk ,bike ride, play basketball, go play mini golf to get the teenager talking. They hate confrontation at a kitchen table. Better to chat when moving
