Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Hey everyone...I've been reading but haven't had chance to actually sit and reply in a few days...maybe a week. I had my 4 yo niece here with us for 4 nights....so much fun but that girl can wear me out. LOL Then after I dropped her off, we had one day to get ready for my BIL and SIL to come visit from the Kansas. We were all supposed to go to Las Vegas for the 4th but finally came to our senses and decided against it.::yes::  So we'll just be hanging out, BBQing and swimming with friends at their house tomorrow. Our family leaves the beginning of next week and hubby will once again be heading out of town for work but this time I might be able to join him. 🤞

QOTD for 7/3 - What iconic toy of the era did you have as a child? or really want as a child, but your parents said no?

When I was younger, we weren't poor but we didn't have a lot so we never asked for toys or things, we just appreciated whatever we got as gifts. I did get a cabbage patch one year and my brother had an atari and then a nintendo, but other than those major things, we didn't get a lot of popular stuff and we were ok with that. LOL I ALWAYS wanted an easy bake oven though but would never had thought to ask for it so I never got one.

Flash forward to after giving birth to my daughter in the hospital, my husband left for a little while and come back with some gifts. He bought our brand new baby girl an outfit and stuffed toy and me, an Easy Bake oven, all wrapped up and everything, so I could finally have the oven I always wanted and I could share it with our sweet new baby. Soo cute. 🥰

I love that doggie sign, Bobbiewoz, so cute! Great idea, too!

Aww, God Bless your husband, AuntieMe3, so sweet he did that! Yikes, you have been busy! Take care please :)

I am so grateful to share we received our reimbursement check from Square Trade today on my old phone--exceptional service! My Dad just went to the PO to return the Moto phone to Wal-Mart. Once they receive it we will be refunded in full for both phone and protection plan. I went ahead and ordered also on Wal-Mart (so I can have Square Trade) The Samsung Galaxy A03. This sounds so much better than the Moto, it's newer, plus runs on the Android 10 operating system which is the latest so that transition from my old Galaxy should be a whole lot smoother! I double promise to take pictures of Evergreen when it comes. I did find the picture from 2014 btw so that is ready to share as well :)

Other Friday Gratitude:

A/C's--it's heating up here in LA.
That Dad will be home all weekend.
Being able to share happy memories with all of you :)

DH and I walked down to the bottom of the court tonight for another drive-by birthday for a 4 year old neighbor. I really enjoy seeing the neighbors. Otherwise, not much excitement. Went to grocery store for a couple of things for the weekend.

Haven't watched Hamilton yet but plan. DD and her 3 year old watched today in two seatings. DGD thought the Schuyler sister were princesses and liked them best. She enjoys the singing and dancing.

My father was working on that for a while and it was just heavy duty cardboard but you had to punch out all the furniture and put it together by following the tabs. I also had Chatty Cathy.
I didn't really like Barbie but had one or two due to peer pressure to play with friends. I had the same cardboard Barbie house. It kind of folded up on itself. And I had a Chatty Cathy. My mother would tell the story of hearing from someone at my dad's work that a certain drug store was going to have them so she went and asked the pharmacist who got one from the basement of the store.

Of course no electronic games. We had one black and white tv with no remote and only 4 channels. And we grew up fine.

Have a safe weekend.

That would be me also. No electronics back then, my one wish was for a transistor radio, and it took my Mom forever to get me one. I loved paper dolls, my favorite (boy will this give away my age), one was a Lennon Sisters one from the Lawrence Welk Show, lol!
It is a hot steamy 95 degrees outside. We did errands this morning, and I made a trip into Walmart. Our store capacity is 1500 people, and at not quite 11:30 I was the 1037'th person. They had every register open (which I think is still against state manadate) and hardly anyone was social distancing unless you literally told them to back the heck up. Guy behind me at registers almost ran over my heels he was so close. He didn't get it when I glared at him apparently as he didn't move, until I saidBACK UP. He didn't want to, but he did. Cashier said it's been like that for 3 days..well then they better start enforcing some of the rules again. Aldi's was fairly empty, and now there are no limits on bread, meat, canned goods, but still have limits on dairy and paper goods. I bought a pkg of nice Hanes face masks in Walmart, they had 5 packs (made with cotton, so very washable) and they had them in black and white. I am tired of the paper ones, and I don't feel like making anymore, so these will get us through.
Dinner tonite-chicken tenders, spring rolls, salad, and fresh garden squash
Dinner tomorrow nite-Burgers, potato salad, maybe devilled eggs, and garden fresh corn and tomatoes
Dinner Sunday-yet to be decided on, but it's going to be hot hot hot for the next week, so it will be something easy on the grill!

Have a great holiday weekend everyone, I am sure some of us won't get to post every day with things going on, but I wish everyone a Safe Happy Fourth of July!

I LOVED the Lawrence Welk show... :lovestruc We used to watch reruns most every Saturday nights with my grandparents....then after the show my siblings and I would put on a "show" for them. :lovestruc I've been seeing it showing again lately on PBS and my daughter cracked up when I was able to sing the closing song.

I had a pound puppy, Violina! It's name was Fudge. I was never that attached to it. I think more the idea than the reality but it was fun. What is a Wuzzle? Sounds like something to do with Heffalumps and Woozles from Pooh.

Good Morning to all. Have a safe and Blessed 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July!!

I also grew up watching Lawrence Welk. I remember the bubbles, singing along with the bouncing ball, and wanting to be one of the Lennon Sisters. One of the few memories I have of my grandmother is watching Lawrence Welk with her.

DH and I started the morning with a 2.7 mile hike before breakfast. Wanted to get out before the heat. I fixed cinnamon buns (from a can), scrambled eggs for DH, sausage, and fruit salad. After that I watched the July 4th concert online from the National Cathedral.

DH is driving up to his sister's about 50 minutes away to pick up something her son mailed to her for our DD. I am going to make deviled eggs and pasta salad for a cook out with DD and family tomorrow. The rest of today will probably include watching A Capital Fourth on PBS.

Gratitudes:
Hearing the birds singing in the woods
Cinnamon rolls
Air conditioning.

I kid, I kid...I just really like this meme, for some reason :p

Josh woke us up at 6:30 this morning...WAY too early! DH went to the store for a few things and they didn't have half of the sale items that I needed. When he got home we went for a walk around the block and it started to get very hot! Came home, had lunch, and now we're watching our town's 2016 July 4th parade on YouTube. We're going to let him stay up later tonight, so we can go outside and play with the glow stuff and light-up rocket copters in the dark. I'm sure some of our neighbors will be letting off fireworks as well.

Tomorrow we'll be going to my in-laws' and having a joint birthday party for our nieces. One of them turned 16 back in March, the same day that everything shut down, and the other one was 14 last week. We'll probably just sit outside in the backyard, with pizza and cake. Josh is excited, he LOVES his cousins!

This so weird but I have very good friend who is in IL with her sister right now. The sister is also with ovarian cancer and going through treatments and having surgery next week. I wonder if same person. Sometimes the world so small.
I'm so sorry to hear this, and I will pray for her, too. But my aunt doesn't have a sister, so they're not the same person. It's always possible that they might know each other, though! I don't know where my aunt is going, but my mom said the surgery center is in Chicago, "just not downtown Chicago." I think she's scheduled for Friday afternoon and she has to stay there for 4-5 days, no visitors. This is awful :worried:

I remember watching Lawrence Welk with my mother. I loved the music. The dancers were really good and Mr. Welk would dance the polka most shows. Several years ago our public television station showed the reruns of the show. One of the performers would host each show and tell little tidbits about the show and the other performers. DH and I enjoyed the shows every week.

Happy 4th of July! So far we have taken the dog for a ride, taken the dog for a walk, wrapped birthday gifts for the soon to be 2 year old grandson, and did some housework. Now it is off to the birthday party. Thankfully the weather is beautiful, sunny and around 80 with a light breeze. Perfect weather for an outside birthday party.

This afternoon we decided to rearrange some furniture. Moved the family room sofa temporarily into the kitchen. It is older and dirty and needs to go to the dump when DS ad DSIL help DH Tuesday. Then we moved living room sofa to family room. Moved some other pieces too.

During the course of this we heard jets flying overhead. Climbed over furniture to get to the door and went outside to see the Thunderbirds followed by a stealth bomber and 4 other jets, then two other bombers. Neighbors were watching and came over later with this info. It was pretty cool.
flyover
We are directly between Philadelphia and Baltimore.

Oh - how cool! We sometimes see fighter jets, and the odd giant C40 or whatever they care called from Dover Air Base, but nothing like that! Eldest is floating in the Bohemia this afternoon/evening. I wonder if he saw them?

I sit here this evening eating my words....my "my dogs aren't bothered by fireworks" words!!! I have had a pup that didn't care at all for loud noises, and so I'm familiar with the stress of a upset dog over fireworks. I just thought it was a non issue cause these guys are somewhat bomb proof. Not Tonight!! I've got 300 lbs of growling, guarding dog prowling thru the house. I'm guessing the illegal and private fireworks going off are from the lack of any sanctioned fireworks in the area. We always get a few, but it's like a war zone out there at the moment! Add to that my husband has been out of town for a few days and they are on high alert, wondering where Dad is.
I have two options - let them sleep in bed with me or listen to them growl and bark half the night. But if I let them in bed one will lay on top of me (he's protective to a fault) and the other will take up more than his share of bed! Honestly everyone sleeps better in their own bed. Maybe I'll try leaving the TV on a bit longer than usual to block out the noise a bit. Thank goodness for sleep timers!

Speaking of TV - I've just seen a new commercial for Shark Week...very funny! If anyone has seen it - it's the 'two" one. I'll try to find it and post a link.

Today was a very chill July 4th for me, stuff going on around us not withstanding - As I said my husband won't be home until tomorrow, he's off putting up hay at the family farm in western MD. I did some weeding, and other yard chores. Read, took a walk. Grabbed some more mulch from Lowes and have generally been chilling out since Thursday afternoon! It's been great. Tomorrow we are going to have ribs and grilled chicken and all the odds & ends that go with that. Kids will be over, plus my folks are in town for a few days.

Got a few yellow squash and zucchini, bell peppers, some other pepper husband planted, and the first cherry tomatoes out of the garden this evening. Must have overlooked a few of the zucchini as I checked them over the past few days cause I picked two HUGE ones - gonna be tough I'm thinking so they may go directly to the chicken coop.

Dinner tonight was some cheese and crackers w/ wine on the porch w/ my folks catching up after they came home from visiting with rest of family out on the river - I yelled at the old man for doing back flips off the boat w/ the 20 something grandsons. He refuses to age, but he may be feeling that in the morning! He and the dogs shared some vanilla ice cream for dessert

I hope everyone enjoys a fun July 4th!

I did have a transistor radio.
My favorite paper dolls were called Twelve Little Cousins. 12 kids with lots of clothes.
I also loved my Barbie doll. My aunt who had no girls, made a whole wardrobe for one and entered them in a contest......when that was over, I got it all!! Still have them

Lucky you, I'm still waiting for my stuff to be big enough to pick. Squash are usually the first thing I get to pick, but the plants are being very slow this year. I have a lot of flowers, but only see 1 or 2 small squash setting yet. Once they start to grow though, look out. Llike you say, they hide. One day you don't see a thing, the next day you find a 6-8" one just laying there. I either give the big ones to a neighbor who likes them that way, he slices them, puts something in the middles and bakes them. Or I grate them and freeze them to bake zucchini bread when it cools off. Have a ton of small tomatoes, but it looks like it will still be a couple of weeks before any are ready to pick. The weather is just too crazy. It's too hot, too dry, we haven't had rain in weeks. They say maybe next weekend we will get some, but I am getting tired of having to water the garden myself every day!

Blueberry zucchini bread is my favorite thing to make with our home grown zucchini! However, this year, the zucchini are staying small, and then they wither. Is there such a thing as mini zucchini?? My sister bought plants this year, usually I just plant seeds, and the leaves are a lighter green with sort of spots. Yesterday I got tired of waiting and just picked the largest of the small ones, maybe 5” cut it up and fried it with onions. I wanted a vegetable!

I played with dolls, pick up sticks and Lincoln logs. My favorite activity was listening to stories on the record player and reading along in a book, and listening for the sound to turn the page. I had oodles of Disney stories and at least one of Bozo the clown.

Oh my, this instantly brought back a flood of memories of watching every week with my parents that hadn't even entered my mind in so, so long! "... And now, 'til we meet again... Adios, Au Revoir, Auf Wiedersehen! Good Night!" :)
Disney connections: Norma Zimmer, THE Champagne Lady, was one of the singing flowers in "Golden Afternoon" in Alice in Wonderland! And, of course, Mouseketeer Bobby!

Good morning.

Just a quick hi before church.

@easyas123, we had fireworks going off in all directions here last night. I agree to you comment about feeling like a war zone. DD, in Middletown, was upset because it was bothering the dog and she was afraid the infant and toddler would get woken up. She was ready to hurt someone. :rotfl2:

Happy Sunday everyone.

The fireworks were awful out here last night :( Some sounded right on top of my building almost, so loud. I pray all went safely. I, of course, sincerely pray, too, everyone is had a good 4th!

QOTD #1 for today the 5th of July: What are your favorite red, white, and blue treats.

QOTD #2 for July 5th: Who (or what) makes you smile when you think of these colors red, white, and blue.

My answers: All three colors together, of course, I think of my country, USA, and give great thanks to all who have and are serving along with their families. My Grandma was always very Patriotic and proud of it. So is a sweet friend now named Shirley. As I grow older being Patriotic means more to me, too :)

QOTD #1: My very favorite "white" treat is sweet vanilla frozen yogurt with hot fudge from a local yogurt place near my church. At Disneyland, when it was so hot, I liked a blue raspberry icee type drink from a small section in Coke Corner. For red....that is harder...maybe thinly sliced fresh strawberries sprinkled with a dash of either white or brown sugar.

QOTD #2: I give God great thanks for joy from all these colors. The color red makes me smile to think of Christmas and Valentine's Day, two days, all about Love. Champ's fur was mostly white and so he will forever be extra in my heart when thinking of being touched by something (a furry someone :)) mostly white. Finally, blue, brings to my mind my beloved church campers, especially the younger kids, who went crazy for blue otter pops!
