I don't care for Dunkin Donuts' donuts. Plus, I can't eat them alot because of indigestion. However, we have a place that make a great red velvet donut, Heavenly Donuts. Then we have Donna's Donuts which has a great glazed chocolate. I may have to stop by for a red velvet donut next time I get the craving.

No Dunkin Donuts anywhere near here, but when I lived in MA, there was one close by. The only time their donuts were good, was first thing in the morning when they were freshly baked. If you bought them anytime after 11 am, they were getting stale already . :(

Gillep, hugs to you and prayers things get brighter.

Snowysmom, I tried Dunkin Donuts once when it first came to a town about an hour from me where I was one day. I was not impressed.

Lynxstch, stale donuts are plain awful! That is the same thing with Yum Yum Donuts.

Speaking of donuts...
When I was in high school, my dad would drop me and my best friend off at Winchell's about 6am (on his way to work). We'd get us a couple donuts and some milk (didn't like coffee back then) and we'd sit and enjoy some breakfast. Then I'd buy a couple of dozen, and we'd walk to school. Winchell's was a block from the outer most part of my high school (the main building was separated from this outer building by the football and soccer fields). On the way from the outer building to the main building (to my locker), I'd sell those 2 dozen to hungry teenagers. The donuts were about $2.50 a dozen back then, and I'd make around $5 a dozen. :rotfl2:

Did the same thing in middle school with scented stickers and bubble gum.

Scented stickers? Dang those were the days....

Tonight's dinner is stir fried rice noodles with baby bok choy, peppers, carrots, broccoli, shrimp, ham, and chicken. It's official: no more protein leftovers in the fridge! Do have some chicken marinating in jerk seasoning for the weekend though. I'll wait until they've finish eating to ask about dessert.

Woohooo for Friday!! I'm not sure if that really means anything right now but we will still celebrate if nothing else it's the last weekend of
Matt's school stuff and my own hated accounting class. Technically graduation is supposed to be in two weeks. I'm not sure what is the plan from the university yet though I guess a virtual graduation. I'm going to try to plan something with the family watching by zoom and friend of ours blessing off on it. I need to think about a nice gift too. Any thoughts?

It's gorgeous day here thankfully with nice temperature too! The governor announced the plan for the reopen slow and steady, which is frightening and reassuring all at once. I ordered whole bunch more masks to have on hand or even give out if need be. I'm looking forward to being able to hug my friends by June. I haven't seen them in person since Dec because my surgery and infection then all this shutting down.

Dinner tonight was ground turkey red enchiladas and creama, black beans, and asparagus.

Gratitude:
Ability to pay for the car service without wincing too much and knowing it'll keep the Subaru going strong.

Beautiful day here and another day closer to hugging my mom. She drives me crazy and she was not the best mom by any means
but I'm still ready just hug her.

I'm so thankful for you all. You don't even know. It's nice to have a safe space in all the chaos. I appreciate the kindness, honesty and willingness to keep this going.

Peace and good health to all.

Question of the day: 5/1: What's your food/cuisine of choice? Do you prefer certain kind of food? Italian? Mexican? American? Chinese?

I'm not really craving anything right now but I love cooking. I've never made homemade pasta but would like to try now that I'll have some more time. I'm also wanting to try to make new things outside of my comfort zone like bread of things with yeast. I've never used yeast and really want to work on expanding my knowledge.

Glad that your mechanic is still working, most of our stations are closed!

Hug her while you can, my Mom has been gone for a long time, as has my dad

I do know--as this is my safe space too. This thread has kept me sane. The last few days I have felt like I was losing it, and the thread and my DIS family has kept me on the edge of reality!

Peace and good health to all.

I don't like Mexican at all, Italian I can take or leave most of the time. I love good old American comfort food, and lately I have been craving Chinese like crazy, but all of the ones here aren't opening back up yet. Then I think to myself, do I really want Chinese,,after all, this darn virus started in China! lol! Fast food is once in awhile. I have to have a Big Mac a couple of times a year, but a good old Subway tuna sub is high on my list of 'get one as soon as all of this is over' things!
I'm not one to try new foods too often, but then again I am picky. I don't like peppers of any kind, I can only tolerate onions if they are cooked and I don't like mushrooms, so I have to adapt new recipes to what we like and don't like

I would say I eat Italian cuisine, particularly dishes with tomato sauce, more than other cuisines. But part of that is because we don’t have a good Chinese restaurant nearby, and I am not good at preparing it myself, or I would eat it more often. I also like to go out for a good steak and potato meal too. Maybe it’s easier to say what is not a favorite. I hate seafood, melon, and autumn squashes.

I like most food. I am kinda finicky though. No mushrooms, olives, sweetbreads or organs of any kind, anything made with blood as an ingredient, and most fish.

I've never tried to make pasta; I told DH when he gets me a pasta roller, then I can make it from scratch. Not doing it until then, though. As far as yeast, it really is a simple ingredient, as long as it's not dead. I think I'm going to suck it up and do the yeast donuts next week; I have all the ingredients, but I need to go get some biscuit cutters. My mom used her stemware to cut out her donuts, haha. She used a big rocks glass for the donuts and these little glasses (the kind for a bit of sherry after dinner) to make the holes.

Dinner tonight was Asian lettuce cups (ground chicken) with pickled carrot and onion. So easy, and very good.

Happy May! May this month be brighter for all. I, too, thank each of you so very much for your encouragement, kindness, and support. I absolutely meant when I suggested it would be awesome to have a Disneyland breakfast meet with all of you when it is safe to do so. How fun it will be to meet in person at the home of our favorite mouse ::MickeyMo

I am a very simple and plain eater, all American other than (not sure this counts :)) boxed mac and cheese from Pavilions or every now and then pizza.

I am grateful today for a new month. Many prayers indeed we move forward positively and safely in the weeks ahead.

Clean laundry.

Some birthday month email offers. I was especially impressed by Denny's. As some of you may know, when you are signed up for their rewards, they send you a coupon for a free build your own grand slam during your birthday month. I do prefer IHOP. However, a friend who is dear works for a Denny's so I do go there every so often to see/support her. Anyway, Denny's sent me a coupon for a free stack of pancakes online plus assurance that once they do reopen, they will also send a free build your own grand slam that I will have a month to use. So kind!

I'm tired so don't have much to say. Woke up way to early this morning then worked at DH's office for a while today. Came home and we had an adult beverage so I am ready for sleep. We want to play a game tonight but neither of us can read the instructions for Mille Bornes and can't think of anything else. Dinner tonight was chicken soup. We had pizza for lunch so a light dinner.

I like anything I don't have to cook and clean up after. I like Mexican out, or seafood. Not a fan of Chinese. Had a bad experience many years ago and never went back.

Gratitudes:
Predicted good weather this weekend
DD had OB visit and everything is good (3 more weeks)
Carry out lunch with DH
A nice phone call with my brother

I can now say that we have officially made it through a full month and nobody in our family has gotten sick! I am very grateful for that! I am also grateful for the warm weather coming this weekend. I'm already too warm in my long leggings; I will have to get out the capri leggings tomorrow!

Today I've been knocking back the Dramamine due to another sudden attack of vertigo. My last one was in January, so I got 3 months this time instead of just my usual 2. I hate how sudden it is, too; I got up, drank my coffee, got dressed, and was sitting at the table while my son ate his breakfast when the whole room just went sideways. Ugh...

I will NEVER turn down Chinese food. All of our Chinese restaurants closed down completely, however, so we haven't been able to get it for a few months. There is one in the next town that people say is good, and they posted yesterday that they are reopening for take-away, so maybe we could try it. There is a good one in my in-laws' town that also has stayed open...it occurred to me last weekend that we should get some when we're up there checking in.

I also love my seafood, but it's typically expensive. And I honestly don't like it fried; I prefer baked or broiled, which costs even more than fried. Along with the Chinese food, I'd love to take a trip to Maine just to go to the Maine Diner for their lobster pie. The last time I had it, I was 7 months pregnant with Josh, and about an hour later, he was doing somersaults in my belly. I love to tell him about that because he doesn't believe me ;)

I am probably mostly Italian and American. Chinese and Mexican once in a while (though our kids like the latter far more than we do). I do miss the food and dining experience in my favorite Chinese restaurant. They make a delicious stir fry we usually get Garlic Beef or Garlic Chicken with white rice and it is so good! Their appetizers are also really good especially their pan fried dumplings and coconut shrimp. But they have been closed so I hope they are able to reopen some day. I really hate when Getting attaches to an establishment and then they close.

Mexican for sure......love it all, but can't eat the flour tortillas and limited on corn.
Love fajitas though. One of my favorites with cheese, salsa, guacamole, sour cream

Dinner tonight was sticky pork chops in the air fryer (new recipe). They were blah.....not sticky and not much flavor.
Green salad and strawberries

Mille Bournes is one of my favorite card games!! We used to stay up and play it and Uno all night long when I was younger.
