@easyas123
I sure am loving the 50's in the morning and 80's during the day. I hope it sticks around for awhile longer.
Same here in NE Floida, since Ian. I'm loving having the windows open at least part of the day!
Good evening.
Been chilly and wet here the last couple of days. I broke down and put the heat on because the dog and my husband were wrapped in blankets.
I am feeling so much better except for a cough which is triggered by the strangest things. My mom finally decided I am not a threat to her health and so I am driving with her to Carlisle tomorrow to get my aunt. My aunt went to Pittsburgh just before the Hurricane hit Florida to meet some old friends. I wasn't crazy about my mother driving so far on her own and my aunt is fine with me being in the car. My mom doesn't really get that COVID is not the death sentence it was and since I am negative, I am NOT contagious. It will be nice to see my aunt as it has been about 3 years. She lives 20 or 30 minutes from Disney World but since I never rent a car I don't get to see her when I am in Florida.
I had the appliance repairman out today and the problem with my oven is what I thought it was. It cost $240 total to get fixed but at least there is no more gas leaking, and I can use the oven again. It is the time of year I start to bake and I want to make cookies to take with me on my trip. I like having them as a late night treat or breakfast with my coffee.
Other than that, not a whole lot going on around here. Hope everyone has a nice night.
Glad you are feeling better. I'm not putting on the heat...it needs to be in the low 60s in the house before I'll breakdown and do it...the a/c is still on in the afternoons/overnight (as we don't leave the windows open at night, for safety reasons).
@tazdev3225 I put the heat on too, and brought down comforters. Enjoy your time with your mom and aunt. Happy baking.
The morning temperatures were under 50, so the fish don’t get fed. I do hope we get into more normal temperatures. Today was the fifth day of high winds and rain. They say some beaches are much eroded, and there was flooding in North Wildwood. We stayed inside all day, except to feed squirrels and birds. Our dog walker did manage a 1/2 mile walk with Gus. Even she couldn’t convince him to do more once he realized he could turn the corner and be home.
46 this morning here.
I would love it if every morning was that cool!!
I was debating on whether I should post tonight or not because I knew it would be a downer. I'm still sick, well coughing anyway....I went to Urgent Care when we got home and like I thought, definitely not Covid but I do have bronchitis. I got some meds and although they are helping with the chest congestion....its still there and my cough is super annoying.
My other depressing news is we had to say goodbye to our Buddy this morning. He hasn't been doing well lately and when DH and I got home from out of town, he seemed just tired and done.

We have a Dr that comes out to the house to do it so we made an appointment for this morning when we could all be there. He was definitely ready, this morning when I woke up, I thought he might have gone in his sleep but he was just really knocked out....poor guy. We are all emotionally drained and sad....its so strange to not have a dog here with us tonight. Since DD(24) was a baby, we've always had at least one dog,most of the time its been two. DH, who literally LOVES every dog he meets, said he doesn't want another one but we'll see how long that lasts. I can't imagine not ever having another dog again but I do need the break for a little while.
So anyway...sorry for the sad post but just needed to share and say it might be a couple days before I'm back again.
Oh no! I hope you get better quickly. and I'm sorry about Buddy.
@Pea-n-Me hope everyone gets better quickly as well!
@easyas123 We had so much rain with Ian.. Where the sun doesn't hit at all, the ground is still squishy.
@flyingdumbo127 you have such a positive outlook, thank you for that. Sometimes when I'm having a rough day, I just read one of your posts and it makes things seem less rough.
@Snowysmom
@Judique Sounds like a relaxing trip! I am a planner, but I don't like having to plan for a vacation, down to exactly when we are going to eat. That's not a vacation to me, that's work!
DH's company has an office in Fort Myers (near the Repertory Theater), and it was hit. Office is closed indefinitely. No one in the office was injured, thank goodness, but most lost everything. The company had a group from 3 other FL offices head there, and brought them supplies (financed by those offices and the people that work in them, plus another office donated), including water, clothing, toiletries, etc. Then the company asked all the other offices to take up a collection, and have people donate via zelle or Venmo to the two people spearheading this drive, to help pay for immediate needs, like hotels or gas, or for their deductibles or whatever they need. Then they also have a group going down to help with manual labor, for clean up. The people from that office have been told they are still collecting their paychecks, and don't have to take PTO for last week or this one; and they can work in a different office if they like, when they come back, or they can WFH. The company also helped with securing hotel rooms for those who needed it, using the company funds and discounts, and people don't have to pay it back. We can't go down to help with the labor (not safe for DH), so we donated some $$. His company gets a lot of flack on places like Reddit, for having high expectations, but they really do pull together when stuff hits the fan.
Other than that, not much new here. DH and I are debating which is better for us, to fly to CA/NE to see the grandkids, or to drive, come January. We'd take a rental car (I am not putting that much driving on my car, lol) from FL to CA, then to NE, and back home again; and it would be Dec 30-Jan 19. I'd have to find someone to come by and clean the litterboxes, feed and water the cats for that 3 weeks. Or we could fly; same route, but would only be gone Jan 5th-17th and just need someone for that shorter time; we wouldn't need a rental car in CA, as DD#2 will let us use one of theirs if needed, but we would need one in NE...either way, it's going to be about $3000-3500 (including hotel in NE, hotels/gas/rental for the drive OR flights plus rental in NE) plus food and things to do money. DH has bought tickets to take DGS#2 to Monster Jam, as it's there the weekend we are; there's nothing like that going on in NE when we're there, so we are planning on going to the children's museum and maybe the zoo/aquarium, if it's not too bad.
I placed an order with Torani, for some syrup flavorings a few days ago, and it came yesterday. I am not as big of fan of their pumpkin spice as I had hoped; it is a lot of pumpkin flavor and less spice; so I added a squirt of their signature vanilla and that helped. I think I'll add a bit of the bourbon caramel to my next cup, and see how that works with the PS. I bought two bottles of the PS, so I'll ship the 2nd to DD#2 (along with the bottle of pumpkin pie syrup they accidentally sent) as part of her Christmas. I like the Monin French vanilla syrup a lot, so the next time I order, I'll try some other flavors from them.
I need to mow the backyard; I got the front yard done on Monday, and yesterday was house cleaning day; then I'll be all caught up for the week. During Ian, I was finding all sorts of creepy crawlies coming in (where, I have no idea) including a few very large wood roaches, wolf spiders, and big black beetles; and frustratingly, I found a small roach this morning, in the kitchen.

The people on the one side of us dug up a bunch of ground and tree stumps, and put in an inground pool and patio when we were moving in, and so I think the big ones came from that; but I have no idea where the little one has come from.

I ordered some roach bait stuff, so when it gets here today, I'll put it out and hope that sorts it; if not, I'll need to call an exterminator (and pay for it, as it's specified we have to, in the lease).
All right, I'm off to go do...nothing until 9am. Have a good day, all!
