Wow, Dan, that just brought back a flood of memories of my great grandmother. She would make these all the time, it's the only way she would make apple pie, and also only the same way she would cook a turkey, in a big brown grocery paper bag. Thank you for the lovely memories that just gave me today, made me feel warm inside!!!

Do ya'll know about fried pies? Have you seen them before? This might be a very deep south thing??
My granny made the best fried chocolate pudding pies. She'd use leftover pie crust or biscuit dough with homemade pudding in it and fry in a skillet. There's a few places across the country called Fried Pie Shoppe and make big ole fried pies sweet and savory.

I dont like my fruit cooked. I LOVE fruit, just not cooked (or dehydrated). I do love a good, boozy pecan pie or a Key Lime pie. We did a different KLP every night in Key West. Of course I dont remember the name of my favorite (it was available in extra tart which I think is what I loved). I know it wasnt Kermits (ok) or Blue Haven (blech, more meringue than lime). It was actually a couple of blocks off Mallory Square. In any case, we got a Publix KLP that trip just to see and it was my second favorite. Which is lucky because I have a Publix pretty close by!

I don't like cherry anything or grape either actually. I think it's leftover from my days or cherry and grape flavored medicine as a kid.

Ugh. I had to take grade sudarfed as a kid and I still cant with any kind of grape flavoring. Just nope.

Like a hand pie?

Now that I would try (and probably love). I have dough in the fridge, may just try that tomorrow, thanks Tina!

I have no idea what kind apple pie this is! Now I'm going to have try to make one. I don't like fruit pies as much as I like pudding/custard pies but I'm pretty sure it would still be enjoyed here :rolleyes1

I've never made a pie, nor really baked anything. But this pie, from Long Grove Confectionery (Long Grove is an historic/tourist village here in suburban Chicago) is amazing. :faint: I think the paper bag is what does the trick.

Tina, cherry also brings for me back most yucky memories of flavored medicine. Grape, I only (and now would extra happily and gratefully) drink Holy Communion grape juice otherwise can do without that as well.

I was never much of a pie person until discovering last year Golden Corral's Chocolate Chess Pie. It is amazing!

Not sure I ever had a fried pie, but fried chocolate pudding pie sounds intriguing.

It's a cold and gray day here in LA. I admit that does help with the staying inside.

Three things I am grateful extra for today are:

A nice phone call from a dear friend
Keeping in touch with others via email, PM, and this very thread.
Thinking about how tasty our eventual Dis Dessert Meet Up will be one day :cake:🍪🥧🍦🍨 etc. :D

Tina, thank you for this thread! I haven’t been posting much but I read and I appreciate the simplicity and kindness that exists here. :grouphug:

Worth repeating!

Key Lime Pie & Chocolate Pie for me!

It was a good day here, we had some news here that changes things for us over the next 6-12 months, and give us some breathing room to get some needed things done around the farm, so that will help us sleep better tonight!
Today I got thru all the back episodes of Spring Baking Championship I had DVR'd - I think 4 episodes in total, and I finally caught up on MOST of the Survivor episodes I recorded, I have only 2 left to watch to be caught up ha ha!! I felt so lazy just sitting around and watching TV. But - I had off work today, and had done a big house clean yesterday. Plus it was raining here all day, so I went for it:rolleyes:

Lasagna for dinner tonight.

Question of the day: 4/13: Pies!! What's your favorite?

Not really a pie fan. I mean, I'll eat it, of course, if offered but it's not my favorite.

I make apple pie that's pretty good. I like banana cream pie. Pecan pie used to be my favorite, it's too sweet for me now. Can't stand meringue....:crazy2: I'll eat the lemon part and leave the meringue. LOL I don't even like pumpkin pie. For Thanksgiving I make pumpkin pie for everyone else and an apple one for me(and everyone else too....lol)

I learned this weekend that if you text 'pew pew' to someone with an iPhone, you both get a laser show. :darth:

I guess it's old news, but I learned it only a couple days ago. :)
It's new to me. Now I'm texting pew pew to all my friends and family LOL

Never heard of it! Now I'm curious to try it.

My favorite pie by far is homemade blackberry. When I was a kid blackberries grew near my grandparents house. We'd go picking and then grandma would make a pie. It's hard to get fresh blackberries where I am now, and the ones they sell in the stores taste awful.

Question of the day: 4/13: Pies!! What's your favorite?

We've talked cookies, ice cream, cakes and now pies. I LOVE peach pie with vanilla ice cream. I made a pretty decent peanut butter pie (not for me as ya'll guess by now) and I make outstanding old fashion pecan pie. I mean let's be honest I don't turn down much pie but I don't any shape or form like cherry pie. I don't like cherry anything or grape either actually. I think it's leftover from my days or cherry and grape flavored medicine as a kid. I cheat and buy the roll out pie crusts. I figure I'm doing the Pillsbury people a favor keeping those people in work. See how I spin that? :p

Cherry pie
Coconut cream
Key Lime
Lemon Meringue

I like the pumpkin pies I make using my mom's recipe. They have a bite to them, because of the spices. Otherwise, I dislike pumpkin.

Pecan is good, too.

Made the dark chocolate cake this morning, with the fluffy white frosting.
Focaccia, topped with shredded asiago (came out so soft and pillowy on the inside and crackling on the outside)
Working on pasta primavera for dinner now.

Question of the day: 4/13: Pies!! What's your favorite?
Pie is not at the top of my list of desserts but I do like apple, peach, blackberry, or blueberry....with vanilla ice cream, of course.

I don't like cherry anything or grape either actually.
My daughter has always disliked cherry flavor, not sure why. It was to the point that the dentist had in his record not to use cherry toothpaste for her cleaning.

Gratitudes:
1. No flooding or damage from the storms last night and today.
2. Finished making 3 more fabric face masks. (I HATE sewing.)
3. Several facetimes with DGD and videos of her Easter egg hunt and opening her basket.

Favorite pie I make - apple
Favorite my mom used to make - lemon meringue
Favorie commercial pie - McDonald's cherry when I was a kid (not the same now)

My whine for today: The weather here is a rainy, windy mess, and my mailbox broke.

Gratitudes:
1) We have (so far at least) only had one power blip, and not a real outage.
2) Sewing went well. - I made masks out of Frozen/Olaf material.
3) SyFy is showing two Harry Potter movies tonight - with behind the scenes cast stuff.

My absolute favorite pie is strawberry rhubarb. I usually make one each year. My other favorites are apple and blueberry! I bake a pie for most family get togethers!

In my life I have only made one lemon meringue....completely from scratch. It was delicious, but hard for me to do. I may surprise my family and make another one when we can all get together again!

Good deed for the day was I made a mask for my DSis and her friend.

Blueberry pie! Blueberry anything really! Or mountain berry pie since that's half blueberries anyway. Second choice has to be a chess/sugar/buttermilk pie. Two things I'm terrible at making but I love eating... actually I think it might be the crust that thwarts me every time. Even when armed with my mom's recipe I never get it right.
Using premade crust I can make a killer pecan pie though. The secret is toasting the nuts and browning the butter before cooking.

Gonna join some of you in posting gratitudes because... well they look like they'd be good for me to keep in mind every day,. So, thankful for:
Pet that had to have emergency visit last Sunday is healing very well and is being a little trooper!
PC and hard drives that let me talk to people all the world over, see art and ideas, and make new friends.
Food and access to it that I didn't have in my younger years. It's nice in times like this not having to worry about financing for food.
