Good evening all. Hope everyone had nice day. Boys & I went for a late breakfast and eldest is boiling some crawfish shortly. I’ve got slow cooked & shredded pork for tacos later as well.
Dogs & I sitting outside as we found a spot out of wind w/ a bit of warmth. Overall it’s been a gloomy and damp day though. I meant to clean out my car but never did get the motivation to do so!

Feel better, Lynn!

Editing, because Pea has revealed our surprise! That is so pretty! Hug thank you for brightening the day of your elderly friend. So thankful you also are having a Happy Mother's Day.

Glad you had a nice Mother's Day, Easyas.

Such a Blessing that it warmed up! Yay, I'm not cold right now at all :) I also just got an early birthday surprise Amazon package from a friend. Dad opened the box (out of my sight) and put the gifts inside a bag for me to look at on my birthday next week.

Have a good rest of the afternoon, friends.

Just ate. :goodvibes Kept it easy and grilled burgers and dogs today after hanging out by the fire pit this afternoon. Made a potato salad the way Mom always did (still not quite as good as hers - missed her and MIL today) and a garden salad with blueberries. Nice day. Also visited my elderly friend this morning with coffee and donuts. We had a lot of laughs.

So my surprise. DH made me the lemon blueberry cheesecake cake that @lynxstch posted several days back! It was a lot of work! :hyper: But it was beautiful and very tasty! None of us could finish the slices they were HUGE! And DH said next time he’ll use his own frosting recipe because the frosting was a little runny. But it was sweet of him to do that, and I knew you’d all want to see it, so I got some pics.

He beat me to it,,and it looks delicious..I think your husband ( and the cake) are keepers!!!

@AuntieMe3 sorry for your loss.

@Kirby love the pics of the kids fishing although kissing the minnow sort of grossed me out a bit. I go fishing with my son sometimes just to take pictures. When he was little I would take them fishing and he learned quickly to bait his own hook and get the fish off. The first time we took my granddaughters they each caught a fish and of course one died. We just told my granddaughter he was having a bit of a rest. She was so upset thinking she killed the fish.

@Lynsxtch How beautiful Lily looked and what great bargains. That was so incredibly kind hearted of her to dance with the special needs lad. I have a grandson who is Autistic though I believe he may be mentally challenged also. I would hope someone would be that kind to him.

@Pea-n-Me What a lovely surprise. We don't allow my husband near the kitchen to cook. Microwave yes, cook/bake no. He made me a steak sandwich once and burnt the roll! Not even sure why he cooked the roll.

Hope everyone had a nice Mother's Day. Mine was mostly quiet. Found out a sweet woman from church passed away on Friday. She had been ill for awhile but had only basic Medicare so sought no medical help. She finally had to go to the hospital last week and found out she had terminal cancer. She was gone quickly. I do feel bad as she never married and had no family but she was kind that I am sure she is in a better place now and out of pain.

My kids and even my grandson called to wish me a Happy Mothers Day so that was nice. I took my mom a plant that I know she likes and some chocolate covered strawberries. She gave me a plant that was an off shoot of one of hers on her deck. It's a perennial so hopefully it takes to my garden. Then of course with my mom no Mother's Day is complete without us arguing over something. It was our favorite argument of late over my daughter not getting the vaccine. She cannot understand my daughter CANNOT get it right now. She has platelet issues and a clotting problem because of it. She is waiting for her doctor's OK. My dad thankfully understands. That isn't saying much as he remembers what he did when he was 8 years old and cant' tell you what he just had for dinner 5 minutes ago. He is on a medication for his memory but mom swears it isn't Senility or Alzheimer's. I'm not going to argue with her over that. I have known for a few years based on observances that dad probably has Alzheimer's.

My husband and I had BBQ from a local restaurant that people rave about. It was OK. The ribs were actually very good and I'm not a huge fan of ribs. The rest of it was nothing to rave about. The brisket was very overcooked and chewy. I did love the vegies but the mac and cheese was bland and not that great. I miss Famous Dave's. I know they are a chain but the food was so good. They used to have a restaurant 5 minutes from my house, now the closest one is over 30 minutes away. I think I will offer to buy the meat if my son will do the cooking. He is very good.

Hope everyone has a great night.

I "liked" your post for your grandson calling, Taz dev, and any other positive Mother's Day moments you had. :grouphug:on your own Mom and her remarks. Next time, (I pray there isn't a next time) she begins to harass you, firmly yet calmly let her know this will no longer be a discussion (up for debate) between you. I know that is so much easier said than done! Oh and I'm sorry about the church lady but indeed she is now at peace.

Wishing all of you a good week ahead!

Good morning DIS family. Happy Mothers Day to all ! Woke to find this message from Stepdaughter. --"I have to tell you this. Made me cry. At the end of the night they played that song into my loving arms. And there was a special needs boy there and lillian asked him to dance. All the kids and adults cleared the floor so he could have his special moment with lillian. Just shows me I raised her right and she gave that boy a night he will forever remember
That made ME cry this morning! This shows you what kind of girl Lily really is, despite all her issues
How heart warming! She is lovely inside and out.

So my surprise. DH made me the lemon blueberry cheesecake cake that @lynxstch posted several days back!
That cake looks delicious!

Like others of you, today was a quiet day. We drove to DS's new house to take a look. It's a nice house, a good starter home for them. Takes a little over an hour to get there and it's all on major highways, no short cuts at all. While there, DS fiance asked when we might take our family trip to WDW. It will either be Spring Break 2023 or Thanksgiving 2022. Can't wait to start planning!

Took Lil Joe and Lou Lou to get sandals for their birthdays at Rack Room Shoes. Ended up getting them both Crocs. This way they can get them muddy and we can just wash them off. The GKs love playing in the mud!

Dinner tonight, as stated yesterday, was what ever Lil Joe wanted. Dinosaur chicken nuggets, strawberries, grapes and mac & cheese. DD had bought a small cake at Kroger and he was delighted to blow out his five candles. And he was pleased with his gifts, especially Jurassic World Legos. I also got him a couple of Snackeez snack/drink holders which he promptly shared one with Lou Lou. She's getting her own on Tuesday but of course we can't tell them that.

While watering our tomato plants today I noticed that we have two tomatoes. Yay! A Roma and a Cherry tomato. Hoping some more will sprout soon.

My sister visited our mom's grave today and found that the grave marker was done wrong. And that there was a large hole at the foot of her grave. She reported the hole but I will have to call about the grave marker.

Happy Mother's Day to all!

Happy Mother’s Day to all and thank you for the kind words from all of you.

so happy to see Lily had a nice time at her first prom. We often did formal dances as a group of guys and girls the first few years of high school, so much nice that way.

flower photo and cake photo - fun !!

Happy Early birthday flying dumbo...celebrate all week with a treat each day !!

usually, we go to a local restaurant which has a Mother’s Day buffet with my husband’s mom, aunt and 91 year old grandmother. This year, I hosted. I didn’t want Great Grandma to have to go out, my MIL to have to clean her house , she’s been busy taking GG to doctor’s appointments and doing her laundry. But , if I’m truthful, it was to celebrate my new dining room . We put in new floors and got a table. I prepared half the food yesterday and it was a great success !! I’ll post pictures soon. We started at 1pm and last guest left at 9pm. Great day.
have a great evening , Ang

Good morning all. Rain has finally stopped (I think) for the next few days. Now all it has to do is dry out so we can all get our yardwork done again. I still have a headache, but nothing like it was yesterday. I do need a little more sleep though, tossed and turned a lot last nite.

@Kirby, happy birthday to your GK's, sounds like Lil Joe had a great one, hope Lou Lou has the same.

Glad to see that this thread is still going, but we seem to be losing a lot of people to either nice weather, or just being busy. I hope Tina is doing well, she's been MIA for a few weeks now.

Have a nice morning !

🐣

Yesterday was such a nice day, I didn’t want it to end. But alas, I couldn’t keep my eyes open after 8 and dozed off pretty hard. The rest of the crew had all gone fishing, so I climbed into DH’s easy chair (which was my mother’s originally, and I almost never use), stretched it out, threw a warm blanket on, and I was gone! Lol. I never got back to my cake but I wrapped it and put it in the fridge for later.

I hope/am glad you all had nice days. Thinking of @AuntieMe3, it must’ve been a hard day for her. :grouphug:

It was nice to hear good news about Lily and see how nice she looked in her dress. Great deal on the price - love it.

Glad @Breezy_Carol had a good vacation! Enjoyed seeing your pictures, @Kirby and @PollyannaMom. Loved the Reddit candy @Bianca and Bernard. DD didn’t do that one, but she got some lovely stuff for our dog on the pet one a couple of months ago. I will show her your pics. @easy123 I hope you’re feeling better. I feel like the change of seasons might be in part responsible for some of the blah feeling. That and the pollen. 🐝 @flyingdumbo127 I hope the new guy at the church works out, thanks for your always kind words and for helping to keep the thread going. Look forward to seeing @lynxstch’s cute morning post every day, thanks for that effort. I really should keep a notepad next to me when I catch up on this thread, it’s so hard to remember everything! But I am reading so thanks for posting, everyone.

Today I hope to work on my photo project, house is pretty clean for now, just have to empty some trash and unload the dishwasher. Have a few things to do outside. One day off before the craziness starts again. (It has been very busy in the hospital.) I pulled a bunch of digital photos I’d taken several years back of the person I mentioned before who was killed in an accident recently. Had them printed up and bought an album to make for the family. Did most of the really nice photos in 5X7s and got the type of album whose pages are large and peel back (which are hard to find these days). I know it’s something I would cherish if it were my loved one, so I’m really happy to be able to do this for the family. It did bring on some tough emotions when it first happened and I was going through all the photos. Shed some tears, for sure. But I think the worst of that is over now, and I can look at them more with appreciation for the good memories, smiles, and close relationships clearly evident in the pictures. Life can be so hard sometimes, can’t it? We really aren’t usually thinking when we’re casually taking pictures that someday, those photos might be the ones that bring us so much solace if something happens and that person is no longer with us, especially when it’s totally unexpected.

My busy past few days continued.

Thursday Continued.
Since due to having the battery go dead while it was sitting since early October 2019 when the transmission went out and we towed it home behind my inlaws small two seater truck-never again every time DH hit the breaks in the truck my knees hit the dash. The clock on the dash was off so I checked the time on my phone seeing that it was 8:10 and there were no calls on my phone which I had to set to maximium battery saver during the Dept N meeting as I was down to less than 10% battery and needed to have my phone on so that 16 year old could get a hold of me when she got off work. I did not have a spare battery pack and the cord for my phone. In battery saving mode the only things that work are calls and text but that was all I needed. Anyways no calls indicated. Decided to head over to 16 year old's work and just wait out in the larger parking lot as there are several businesses in the area. As I pull into the lot I see her walking across the parking lot. She was heading to the sidewalk on the street to then head up to an outdoor ice cream stand on the corner to wait because the people at another business kept watching her suspiciously. Come to find out that she had called me just seconds after I had put the phone down on the tray but since the battery was down to under 5% even with the battery saver mode on I didn't hear it ring especially since my blue tooth had gone dead as well. It also didn't light up that it was ringing.

Wednesday
The girls and I went to church in person for the first time in over a year. Both girls went to youth group. Report on 16 year old from the son of a good friend and her future daughter in law is she did good. Report from 16 year old is she doesn't know how to hold the pool cues right and she lost a piece to the trouble game. While 16 year old was told it happens all the time to her it was a great crime because her sister did it. Hmm shall we talk about the book I asked to be returned to me back in March that she has down in the basement area she has turned into her cave, that I need for tomorrow night. She can't find the book when I asked and no one else is really in that space.

Tuesday
Around 2 pm 16 year old comes upstairs with the news that she had gotten a phone call asking if she was still looking for a job. She says she doesn't even remember applying at this place so she had told them no she was not. I know where the place is and mention did you apply there when you went for a walk when you and dad went into do laundry back in February 2020. Just as it dawns on her that she had her phone rings again and the person on the other end is asking if there is anyway that she can come in for an interview and to possibly start training at 4:30. She not only got the job but worked a 3.5 hour shift at a chinese resturant. She is working as a hostess which means she seats people and if it is busy gives them menus to start looking at otherwise the floor servers bring them when they come get the drink orders. She is also taking all the phone orders both those for delivery services, delivery by the resturant, and pick up orders managing 3 phone lines.

She does not want any of the family to know she has a job and especially does not want them to know where she is working. She is worried that they will come in and bug her at work. Or is it more that they will check up on her and tell her how she can improve at her job when they know nothing about what she is doing. I honestly don't know which.

When we left not too soon after DH had left my dad was out watering the part of the garden he had just planted which would be his onion sets mainly. There goes I am not going to plant anything but a few pumpkins and squash in that area and just plant a few things in the raised bed plans because we are going to be taking either the motor home or the truck and 5th wheel depending on where we are going and traveling about the country.

Because my dad was out and knowing that he might be out for a while-at least until about the time my parents eat their supper meal-they have dinner in the middle of the day and just a lighter meal in the evening. I ended up taking 13 year old to the park near my inlaws house after we went through McDonalds and got something to eat. She had fun playing and even played with another little girl who's mom said that 13 year old was very bright. Come to find out this mom worked with special needs students in the school system and could tell that in spite of her not being able to talk she was one smart little cookie. This mom even commented that 13 year old signed very well to communicate.

It did start getting crowded when all the t ball kids and parents showed up to play on the field near the playground so we decided to head home for a bit. I honestly was home about 45 minutes when 16 year old called that she was off work but I managed to sneak home and leave again without them noticing that she was not with me. Trust me they would have asked even if it was with a phone call and so far no calls from anyone. Since DH has declared that it is not going to take long for my parents at least to figure out that she has a job or at least something is going on with the girls and I leaving on a regular basis several times a week. 16 year old wants to see how long she can go without them finding out about her job.
I think she is nuts especially since my parents love to get on her about how since she is homeschooled she will never be able to support herself. Hmm 18 year old niece does not have a job and has not even had a part time summer job because she has been going to school taking honors classes and doing upward bound classes in the summer to help her get a jump on college/university because neither my brother or sister in law have a bachelors degree so she qualifies as a first generation student. 15.5 year old nephew does not have a job either and they have been bugging my daughter about getting a job from the time she turned 14 years old with a constant McDonalds is hiring comments. Personally I would bragging about having a job to them if it were me.

Tuesday after I picked up 16 year old from work we came home for a few minutes so she could grab her jacket as we had a small thunderstorm and the tempature had dropped. She also wanted to get her power cord. I mentioned to her to grab mine as well but she didn't instead she got her extra one. Except it doesn't work with my phone so my batter went from 6% when we left the house and had plugged it into the car charger to 4% when we got to walmart in the smaller town. My walmart because while I will shop at the one clear across the larger town if I am out that direction anyways I do try my best to avoid the one more on my part of the larger town including for curbside.

I should have had 16 year old take pictures of how giddy 13 year old was for her first trip to walmart since late February/early March of 2020 when we walked in the door at 9:15 pm. We walked out having spent over 250 dollars at 9:56 pm. Not bad for them closing at 10 pm. We got some clothes for 16 year old to wear for work as she needed black pants not jeans, and neutral colored tops. We also picked up a few other things including another one of the hair brushes that we like which I could never find on the curbside for the longest time. Some bags for using at the Y for hauling stuff back and forth in that have decent handles that will hold up instead of the reusable shopping bags we got from Ross. Some hair scruncies, 3 tops for 13 year old one with Mickey on it, one with Mickey and Friends and one solid pink one. 4 broomstick skirts for 13 year old and 2 for 16 year old which were on clearance for $3 each. The spring line so it was being clearanced out. Great deal for me because I expect my girls to dress modestly at all times and will not allow them to wear shorts that are not at least 2.5 inches above the knee with most of time now that they are both teenagers the rule being capris or mid calf length loose skirts in the summer. Even when they were infants and toddlers I did not dress them in things that showed their belly or short shorts unless under a dress and tops had to come at least to the edge of the shoulder otherwise they wore a top under it. They had jumper dresses as preschoolers that they wore with a short sleeved top for the spring summer, and fall months, and long sleeved often mock turtle neck tops for the winter months along with appropriate weight tights.
Drove my parents nuts and they made comments that they are little girls you don't need to be so strict about what they were. Well little girls grow up and now I don't have to deal with arguements over but it was fine when I was 11 or 12 to wear x type of outfit why can't I wear this now. My inlaws especially my mother in law were much more supportive. My mother in law has often thanked me for making sure my girls are dressed so modest often after she spends time with their older cousins or even more so sees what some of the grandsons' girlfriends are wearing. I am a little bit more relaxed around the house and they can wear items that still fit but are shorter in the house and yard provided we are not going anywhere as long as we are not having company over.

Good morning.

Yesterday was a very nice day. After I last posted, DS called from Hawaii to say Happy Mother's Day. Nice to chat a little and hear about their trip. Sounds like they are having a wonderful time. (Who wouldn't?) Then we headed down to DD's. Had a nice visit and got carry out Mexican food, including a 16 ounce prickly pear margarita. All very good but I definitely overate. DD gave me a nice card, a Shutterfly tote bag with family pictures on it, and a jigsaw puzzle. I am holding off on starting any puzzles until after Carter's party because I don't want it to be a temptation to the kids, but it is killing me. I have an addiction.

Today I want/need to work in the yard a little. Taco salad is the current plan for dinner.

@Pea-n-Me, that cake looked gorgeous. Your husband did good work.

Good Morning 🐥

Kirby, sounds like Lil Joe had a very Happy Birthday :) How sweet of him to share one of his new cups with his sister. I hope Lou Lou has a great day tomorrow. :grouphug:on your Mom always. And congratulations to your DS and his fiancee on their new home. Many prayers you have a ton of fun WDW planning and that all is back to normal (or very close to it) by the time you do go so you can all enjoy the full experience::MickeyMo

As always, such a cute good morning picture, Lynn, thank you for taking the care and time to greet us that way each day. You do need to get more rest, my friend! I also pray Tina is okay and will post sometime soon.

Thank you for your kind words, Pea. We appreciate you:hug: What a lovely gift to do for that family, God Bless You! You are making a difference to them. Lol, I often copy/paste all the posts above mine into Word and then one by one write my replies to each person. Otherwise I'd never remember! A notepad would work, too :)

Sweetpeama, wow, you do have a lot going on! Wishing you a more peaceful week ahead🌼

Glad your DS is having a nice Hawaii trip, Carol, and that you enjoyed a good Mother's Day as well.

Wishing all of you a bright new week ahead :grouphug:

I really should keep a notepad next to me when I catch up on this thread, it’s so hard to remember everything!

This inspired a QOTD - How do you remember things to respond to posts? (You two already responded)

I used to open two tabs of the thread then go through and reply in the reply box while reading in the other tab. But now I learned how to quote just one thought at a time. I quote something that will jog my memory, hit "insert quotes" in my reply, and delete as I respond. Always learning something new.

So far I have changed the towels and have a load washing, put some straw on my garden, picked up rocks, and went to the local farm stand to get some flowers to plant. Unfortunately, even though their Facebook says they open at 10 and I went at 10:30, they were still closed. 😟

QOTD - How do you remember things to respond to posts?

I just highlight and hit the quote button as I read thru, then when I respond and post I hit the insert quotes or whatever button it is that shows up.
Or, I quote the entire post if it's relevant and not to long.

Busy AM in the office for me, and I need to step out and run a few errands shortly. Not sure what dinner will be this evening, maybe chicken soup? Or leftover pork from last night. Rinse & Repeat for tomorrow evening.

QOTD - How do you remember things to respond to posts?

Usually, I just highlight and add to multi-quote, then insert them all at once and reply by clicking the cursor in between them and typing. Occasionally, if I just want to send a hug or the quote is too long, I’ll jot something on a sticky note beside the computer and use the @ feature.

Sometimes I remember to quote, sometimes I totally forget, lol.
((huggles)) for those who need or want them. Congrats and hellos and happy birthdays and all the other jazz that I just forget to quote..... :rotfl2: It's me being truly too lazy to go back...it's not just here; I'm the same on Facebook or Instagram or Fark or Reddit or...........well, any other place I make comments.

Thanks for the reminder...I have a load of towels to wash. I did the other laundry yesterday, but skipped the towels, as it was later in the day; and I try to not run the dishwasher/washer/dryer after 8pm, just as a courtesy to my neighbors. I made apple bread (Soberdough mix) yesterday to go with the breakfast for dinner (eggs, hash browns and bacon) that I finally got around to making. LOL

DH and I braved the wilds and went to lunch at a restaurant today. First time since February 2020, that we've been out anywhere other than picking up food/orders, a store (grocery or Kohls or Target), a doctor/ER/labs, or the post office. It felt...almost normal. We went to Metro Diner; he had the special crab cakes benedict and hash browns (no, he's not supposed to have poached eggs, but he decided the risk was worth it). I had the shrimp and grits; well, half of it, as DH stole the other half. I never eat the shrimp, but it's the same price with or without them, so DH will eat them. I usually hate grits, but these...man, I have been dreaming about them for a year now. (They don't deliver well, lol.) They make them into cakes and fry them....oh, I want them again already!
