Good morning DIS friends. Another chilly, frosty morning, but the frost looked like little diamonds all scattered on the grass earlier, very pretty. No snow or rain in sight for at least 10 days, and temps going to mid 40's all week, we'll take it! Today is grocery day, errand day, changed the beds day, and beauty treatment day. Hubby says its football weekend..why oh why are there 3 games on today and another 3 tomorrow..too much!
@sweetpeama good luck getting your car started. My sister in law has had her older car sitting there for 2 years now, waiting for her hubby to figure out what is wrong with it. He's changed the starter, the alternator, and battery, the wires, checked the electrical, and still can't get it to run. I told her to just take it to the repair shop (at the end of their driveway, lol) and have them fix it. He spends too much time trying to fix it without any success.
@Breezy_Carol I too am trying to do a jigsaw puzzle, but waiting for my new glasses. I am getting frustrated with it just wearing my over the counters. My glasses are in, but hubby's aren't, and we want to make appts to get both of them at the same time not to waste a trip. We also got a Christmas card in the mail yesterday, but the reason hers was late is that she just got them in the mail on Monday, after ordering them in Nov!
@apirateslifeforme How frustrating that is for you, Josh, and all the teachers. It's just too hard for them to keep switching from virtual, to in person, back to virtual, or 1/2 and 1/2, how can anyone learn, or teach like that? Poor Josh and his meltdowns, but I don't blame the little guy. If I were in his position (or in most kids positions), I would be having them too. :( I hope they get this settled soon! His 'first crush' made me smile, how sweet it must be to see. I hope he makes Ava a pretty drawing of flowers, and don't worry Mama Bear,,I don't think that stage will last too long, lol! I would love to see your 'not burgundy, but purple' hair, that must have been a surprise to your stylist, lol!
Have a great day everyone R5d11db848e298d83d4fa3aa410827353.jpg

Morning all! Not much new on the homefront. We're making chili because it's...well..chilly outside this morning. And we have the kitchen window and the sliding door in the living room open, to air out the place from the chiles.....:rotfl2: It's only 45 out, but it's not supposed to get much warmer. It'll be lunch today, plus two more meals in the freezer.

I've been practicing on my keyboard for 60-90 minutes a day. I bought a set of teaching books, as I haven't played piano since DD#1 was about 10 months old (and here I go, dating myself....she turns 32 in August); and I'm at the end of the first book (yes, I made myself do all the stuff in there), plus I'm also working on some songs I used to play back in the day. LOL DH bought some music books for me, with songs he wants me to learn, and I'm like...um, honey, those are at least a year away, haha. I'm not very good at the jazz/blues thing; I do better with classical and slow 80s rock.

I haven't been on WoW in 3 weeks. :guilty: I have a confession...I bought a Switch in October...and I've been playing Animal Crossing. :teeth: I lost my first island, because the software glitched, so I'm on my second...and honestly, I am loving it. :dogdance: If you know, you know...I am no longer in debt to Tom Nook, for any reason.... :dog2:  :rose:

DD#2 is settling into life in Oki pretty well. DGS#2 started 4 year old soccer yesterday, and starts preschool next week.

DS is working on coding and programming; he has programming for an elective this year, and is really liking the course. He spent his Christmas money on computer goodies (like a windscreen for his microphone) and video games; and he is saving part of his 'stimulus money' (we gave him $300 of it) to chip in to buy a better video card, once they are available again (not from scalpers).

DD#1 miscarried; she is heartbroken. The doctors did a bunch of tests finally, and found she has a problem with her thyroid (which explains so much). My mom died of thyroid cancer (as did DH's mom, although that has no bearing on DD#1), and I have 2 sisters with hyperthyroidism. DGS#3 is starting either baseball or soccer (it depends which one actually goes on; if they both do, they wll let him choose) this spring; and in the meantime, he has started learning how to play guitar. Theirs is a musical household (DSoIL plays guitar and bass; DD plays piano, accordian, harp, and flute), and DGS has already started piano lessons with mom, and is now on guitar lessons with dad.

DH had one package from his reddit secret santa gift returned back in mid December (the same day it arrived, there were 3 other packages for him from the same company...Amazon, and one of the packages was from the same person, ordered on the same order) for 'lack of address', or as the postguy said "no apartment #". Funny enough, Amazon never got the package back. The santa messaged DH, and showed a clip of the address, showing it did have the address on it, and the santa had sent two packages, so at least DH got one thing. There are a lot of reports on R about packages/letters still missing from as far back as November. I'm still missing my reddit secret card exchange, but it was coming from overseas, so I really don't expect it until the end of January.

Chilly here today on the Mexico border.......52 degrees...high of 69 forcast...my computer room is 62...and it has no heating source as I explore prices on ebay for my goodwill store finds...anyhow

we have many empty mailboxes here in the snowbird community of 150 streets. custom is to zip tie your mailbox when you head back home....but zip ties don't do well in 125 degree heat and we did have the hottest summer on record.....so two days ago I am out at the bank of mail boxes on wooden posts when I see the one next to me bulging out the lid.. it belongs across the street where I water their beautiful flowering desert hedges and inside is a package dated Dec 14, a clothing item of some sort....belonging to an addrress two streets north of my street......I wonder how that went down on feedback of internet trading.

Good morning.

We are having our belated family Christmas today. It was going to be in the garage but it is cold today. (29 but windchill 19) Kids and I discussed and due to a variety of reasons, we are going to stay inside, distanced, with masks. I have two crockpots of beef stew started and more cookies baked. Just have to put crescent rolls in the oven when ready to eat.

Re: having the online shopper shop for fruits, veggies, and meat. I am fine with a head of lettuce or a lemon. I even ordered 4 pounds of stew meat and got 4.02 which was amazingly close. I just can't get bananas right. I know I was 5 (or whatever) but have to guess the pounds and haven't gotten it right yet.

Here is a picture of the puzzle I just finished. 1000 pieces.

Good Morning, everyone,

It's chilly yet sunny here. Last night was real windy! I love the two spring-y pictures Lynxstch and PollyannaMom, thank you :)

I am so sorry, B&B :( Prayers for your DD#1. And you!

Sweetpeama, I also hope your car gets started.

Great puzzle, Carol! I admire your puzzle patience for that many pieces. I would not have lasted to put together that many pieces!

Happy Saturday to all! :)

@Bianca and Bernard :( So sorry for your daughter's miscarriage. Sending healing prayers her way. That is very sad news indeed.
Yies @Breezy_Carol..thats a little too chilly for an outdoor Christmas celebration..the beef stew sounds very delicious and warming though. Hope all goes well. I love that puzzle, makes me thing of Summer and warmer weather!
We are sunny, but only 41..and that will be our high.
Trying to figure Walmart out..there was noone counting people when I went in, but when I came out, (same door), the girl said I was # 677 ..how can they keep an accurate count if noone is counting people going in? lol! I also had a surprise when I got to the registers..there were 2 people in one line, 3 in another..and 3 empty registers with cashiers. No idea where everyone was, but I got out in record time.Aldi's wasn't very busy either..got some nice blueberries for $1.69 a pint!
Have a great afternoon everyone!

Went to the store and picked up the veggies & fruit I wanted. Then promptly picked up the rest of the items I needed to make beef stew tomorrow night - thanks Carol!!!

Feeling the doldrums of winter this weekend for sure. We were going to have another bonfire, but it's to breezy. I have a bunch of old papers to burn, too. Oh well, maybe tomorrow.

Geez, I wrote this this morning but never posted it!

Omg, that was awesome! I even liked the music! Thanks for posting! :music::goodvibes I see we’re getting a few snowflakes in our area today! Hopefully no significant accumulation.

@Bianca and Bernard, so sorry to hear about your DD’s miscarriage. 😔 Your family is keeping busy which is so good. I love how many instruments you all play! My kids learned guitar. DD practiced more than DS did, lol. I remember their teacher saying they “won’t have to play the ‘air guitar’ in college” - that cracked me up.

@Breezy_Carol I love your puzzle! DD and bf did their first one together and wound up framing it. He got her into puzzles, it’s not something we’ve done much of. It’s interesting to see the things my kids are picking up from the families of their boyfriend and girlfriend, and vice-versa. Disney is one for our side, it’s been fun taking DS’s girlfriend on trips, she’s really into it now which we of course love! Animals are another. BF never had a dog or any pet besides a fish before, so it’s been fun watching him get to know our dog (he’s taken him running now) and even being on board when we got the new hamster last week.

We are making a stew tonight, too, but chicken, using the larger crock pot I recently bought. We got a nice loaf of French bread to go with it. DS’s girlfriend, who likes to cook, wants to cook fish here tomorrow. Hopefully she does it on the outside grill - last time I cooked fish inside the house smelled like fish for a week, at least. All I could think of was that 70’s commercial, when the MIL walks into DIL‘s house and says, “Fried fish last night, dear?”. :rotfl2:What were they selling, I forget. Was it Glade air fresheners or something? :lmao:

This was a good work week. Somehow - I guess the stars were all aligned just right - patients were complimentary and one of the nursing assistants I work with gave me a gift, which was touching. We take the small rewards where we can get them, things being so stressful right now in the hospital. (Well, come to think of it, always, actually.) This time of year is always hard with many people coming in very sick with pneumonias and such, but add in the Covid surge and it’s just crazy.

I forgot to mention here before, DD, DH and I started watching Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman a couple of weeks ago. DH and I watched it when it aired on TV (93-98) and always loved it. (OT but Jane Seymour still looks amazing at almost 70 now, stayed au naturale!) I was looking through different shows to watch (given how stressful the news has been) and not much interested me, but I remembered how much I liked this show, and thought DD would enjoy it, too. (And I was right!) We streamed Season 1 on Prime, and when it came time for Season 2 we figured out it wasn’t available! 😬 So we managed to find Seasons 2 and 3 at a library a half hour from our house, and it was a pain trying to get it with Covid (quarantine items, drive up by appt only, all appts full for three days, etc.) but we finally did. I wound up finding a good deal on EBay for the whole series on DVD so I bought it, we’ve been enjoying it so much! (It hasn’t arrived yet.) It’s nice to see DD laughing and crying during a family-type show that’s almost 30 years old! And we all actually really look forward to the episodes, with a couple of days watching four or five, lol. And @TazDev I’ve always thought, when watching Outlander, that those two series had a lot of similarities (which explains a lot about why I love each), although Dr Quinn is quite tame in the romance dept, the complete opposite of Jamie and Claire 😳! (We’ve been laughing at different times in the show saying omg if this were Outlander they’d be rolling around butt naked in the hay by now! :lmao: )

DD just bought The Office DVD set, too (not something I’ve ever seen), we went on a wild goose chase one day trying to find it but finally did. It’s funny our DVD players were iffy but we picked a beautiful Sony one up at Savers for $5 😝 and we even had a Sony remote that worked with it, so it’s nice to have a functional DVD player again we may end up watching more DVDs now than streaming!

Enjoy the evening, everyone. 🐣🐤🐥

Waving good afternoon everyone :)

I'm so glad Lynxstch and Easyas123, you both had good shopping experiences!

I hope each of you gets some good/expected mail today :)

None here Mona :( Told you mail is extemely slow lately, even first class and priority. My pkg still hasn't made it to FL and it was mailed priority on Dec 10 :(

Wow, good for you, Bobbiwoz! That's awesome the puzzle is nearly completed. Maybe if I had space to leave a puzzle out and come back to it, I'd attempt a larger than 200 piece puzzle. I am glad puzzles are providing a lot of you fun right now :)

Hug, Pea, we appreciate you! I sure thank you for your service. I am so glad to hear you did get that acknowledgement :) Enjoy your shows!

I'm sorry, Lynn :(

We had a wonderful and now I am tired. Everyone has gone home and everything is cleaned up and put away.

DS and his wife got here about 2 and DD and family about 3. They had gifts to share with each other so DGD immediately wanted to open presents. Had to slow her down some. Then we just chatted awhile, everyone but the baby in masks. Had 2 card tables set up in the kitchen as well as the kitchen table so it was separate tables, "like a restaurant" as DGD said. Stew was a hit. (Glad I inspired you @easyas123.) Had cookies. Listened to DGD sing for about 45 minutes straight while we tried to talk All in all, a great day.

We were going to have another bonfire, but it's to breezy.
We had a fire in the firepit going because it wasn't terrible out, and sunny, but never made it outside.

@Bianca and Bernard, so sorry about your DD's (and your) loss.

@sweetpeama, my mom has a similar devotional book called Jesus Calling. I need to find it, she dearly loved reading it. It's in her room somewhere.

@apirateslifeforme, DD, Carol, had a beau in kindergarten. He wrote her love notes on post it notes. I was working as a teacher aide at her school with kindergarten at the time. Her teacher wanted to throw them away like it was inappropriate or something. I thought it was cute and kept them, they are in her memory box. We have laughed about it over the years.

@Breezy_Carol, I love to work puzzles though I stick to the 300 piece ones for now. I have a friend who does the 1000 piece ones, several a year. She has a tray and sorts the pieces into groups by how many knobs they have. How do you sort your pieces?

We're under a winter storm watch for the rest of the weekend. The weatherman says that everyone will get snow, just depends on where you are as to how much you get. An inch is a big deal here. We'll be staying in tomorrow. People here don't know how to drive in the stuff.

I got to meet up with a group of friends last night. We sat out on one of my friend's patio (socially distancing) and we talked until we were frozen, about 11:30 pm. When I got in my car the temperature was 35 degrees! But it was all worth it to be able to visit with them.

:) I truly am thankful you had such a nice visit with your family, Carol. Get some good rest tonight!

Kirby, I was given Jesus Calling as a Christmas gift 7 years ago. I still find much peace looking at it now. Aww what a sweet Mom. That would be fun to look back on. Yikes! I would have frozen! How great you were able to get together with friends :)

Sweet Dreams, friends.
