Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Mine are mostly family related ---
"So there I was"....I realize it may sound odd but whenever one of the boys is about to launch into a retelling of one of their fathers hunting or fishing stories they start by imitating him and using that phrase! It just makes me laugh!

"Dear, I need some more Yuck"...again, probably pretty odd, but it was what my grandmother would say to us when she needed one of the grandkids to refill her scotch glass. She called it 'yuck' because she thought it would keep us from trying it! Gram had very strict scotch rules, two ice cubes, no more. 2 fingers of scotch, no more. That woman was a pure jewel, dang I miss her. 22 years ago in Sept. she died in her bed on the second night of a 3 week family vacation, she always did demand the attention be on her!

"What airline today" - what the shuttle driver asks after we've parked and are headed to the airport in the parking shuttle for vacation!

Welcome to all the new posters! It's nice to see you here.
Took a 8 hour car trip - up & back - up to Lynxstch's neck of the woods.
Did you see me wave at you when you went by?? lol!
Managed to beat the rain & wind home as well, and traffic was light. We had to pick up some stuff from the butcher up here, and pay the bill!
Stopped at the Christmas Tree Shop as recommended by Pirateslife & other...the one we went to was in Hagerstown, MD. Picked up a item or two - boy it was crowded in there for sure.
I want to go,,but will do it on a weekday, when it 'might' not be so crowded!
Had the unfortunate experience of grabbing a sandwich from Sheetz. We didn't want 'fast food', and wanted to get back down the road and home by 3PM so we grabbed a sandwich from them. Not to great, BUT I'm a born & bred Wawa patron so perhaps that clouds my opinion? :rotfl:
I am not a fan of Sheetz either, but from my McD's and Burger King experiences the last few days, I just might try them again. We have one about 5 min down the road.
Stopped for a quick walk around this area:
https://dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/pages/western/casselman.aspxwhich we go by frequently but haven't stopped in years.

Your link doesn't work, but I knew where you meant. Haven't been there in years!

It's a requirement if you live in MD for more than 3 months!

Wawa
ROFO
Sheetz
Starve
is my list of gas station edible-ness ratings!

Okay, I give up. I've lived in Maryland for 20 1/2 years..and I know Wawa and Sheetz,,but what the heck are ROFO and Starve? Never even heard of those 2!

We have bright sunshine, but it's still windy and the temp is 58, even though they said it would be a high of 50, lol. Hubby just spend 1 1/2 hours online, trying to do the medicare part B special enrollment thing. It really might help people if the SS website worked correctly. He even tried calling the toll free #, but after getting disconnected 2x, he gave up. He was done (including attaching the forms they needed to prove he's had health insurance since starting SS), except for the 'signature and email line'. There was a place for signature, but none for email. After about 15 minutes, a little button finally appeared under those 2, that said sign here. He did, they sent a code, he replied to it, and then they sent another one telling him he had completed and was done with enrolling. Why do they have to make it so complicated for people? He was not about to make an in person appt at our local SS office with covid going on :(
Tomorrow morning he has a phone appt with the local insurance broker to choose a supplemental plan, and then he will be done with that part.
His boss called him this morning, and told him noone has applied for his managers position. We think she was waiting for him to say he would stay, but that isn't happening! lol!
I have done nothing today so far. I had a heck of a headache which is finally going away. Think I will go out and pick up the branches that the wind knocked down last nite, but at least we didn't lose power!
Have a great afternoon everyone!

@Shellsbutt It is so hard to balance the cost of care for our pets vs what we can realistically afford. I am hoping for the best for your kitty. Our dog Jasper has his follow up on Wed which will cost around $400. I know they want to do more tests but he is 15 and we spent alot so far on his care. We are not able to go down the road with test after test and I don't want to put him through it. I hope your DH finds a new job soon. Sending good thoughts your way.

@AuntieMe3 Sorry to hear about your friend. I hope you and your DH test out OK. Take care of yourselves.

I have been trying to watch Hallmark movies. Some I stick with and others I just have to let go. I can't get into the story line or the actors are too annoying.

Some of the things I say are: Never say never
It is what it is
You can't cure stupid

We did buy a car this morning. We got a Subaru Outback. Our kids both had them, older DS's is 10 years old and no big issues. Younger DS traded his in for a Subaru Ascent when their third child arrived. No room in the Outback. I test drove it and was able to do most of the talking and questions. DH chimed in when he had something to ask but that is it. We go back in a while to sign off and pick it up. We have not had a new car for us since 2003. We are still driving that car. We also got hand me down cars from the kids. We bought cars for them for college and after. Once they bought their own cars we got the ones we bought back.

Lynxstch, I'm sorry about the phone frustration your DH experienced! In person appointments are sadly not a good idea right now.

Congratulations on your new car, Snowysmom! What color did you get? :)

I love that some of you seem to live in the same general area (or close by) AuntieMe3 and I probably live a couple hours away depending on traffic! :)

Happy Monday, all. Josh got off to school without crying and/or fussing this morning. He was very excited to give his bus driver the pictures he drew for her and I think he was focused on that :)

Went to the library this morning and got myself a book that's been on my list for a while, then found about 3 on Josh's list. He'll be happy that one of them is the new Grumpy Monkey book. Even I like that character - "Jim Panzee" :teeth:

Then we went to Target. I finally found some socks to put in Josh's Christmas stocking, plus they had the new Ghiradelli "white chocolate sugar cookie" flavor and Lindt "snickerdoodle" truffles. And just when we finished up ringing out, all our stuff was bagged and the cashier was trying to scan our coupons, her computer froze up. 2 managers came over but that thing wasn't budging. We had to go to another register and re-ring everything. So that was fun! Then we went to Costco and discovered...don't go on a Monday morning, an hour after opening. We didn't buy a lot, but the line was all the way to the back of the store and wrapped around an aisle. Plus with people trying to social distance, other people were trying to cut into the line. But they had every register open and it went quickly. Still, as we left, we said that we'd make sure to get there at opening from now on.

I noticed that my jeans felt looser this morning! Fresh out of the drawer, normally they'd feel tight right after washing, but they didn't! That's a good sign! :)

QOTD: what is one of your favorite sayings ?

My kid would say that my favorite is "Seriously? Alrighty then."
I have one that I can't post.
And my favorite profound one...from an episode of Doctor Who: "Sometimes the only choices you have are bad ones, but you still have to choose."

I'm a firm believer that experiences are better than “stuff” (which, of course, is a little harder to live by right now - but we're concentrating on making different kinds of memories.)
This is how I prefer to live as well. Don't buy me "stuff" - save the money and let's DO something. I'm trying to instill that in Josh, too. It's been difficult to do this year but we've been able to do some things, go to some places. One of the reasons I wanted to do our state project was to get him excited about going new places and seeing new things.

Thoughts about doing stuff & Josh -
We are hoping to gift our niece, she's 4, ice skating lessons for Christmas. Do you think he'd like that? A friend of ours got his young son into ice hockey as a way to burn off some rambunctious little boyness and he LOVED it. The kid that is! I'm hoping our niece enjoys it...it will be good exercise for her and get her socializing with some other young kids, which she will I think benefit since her pre school had to close down.

Thought about things like aquarium or museum or zoo memberships but frankly between Covid & how far we live from all those types of things I don't think this is the year for it.

Oh no, our thread is almost at the bottom of the page!

That was sweet of Josh to make a picture for his bus driver, Apirateslifeforme :) Lol to the Grumpy Monkey book title. I hope Josh enjoys it. I look forward to a report on how you like the Ghiradelli white chocolate sugar cookie flavor candy. I saw that yesterday along with the Hershey sugar cookie kisses. I never was much one way or another for white chocolate. Years ago I did like Baskin and Robbins World Class Chocolate because it was a combo of milk and white chocolates. (I don't like dark chocolate at all). I'm sorry you had shopping trouble also. Go you on the jeans!

What a great idea, Easyas123. What a nice Aunt you are, too :)

I watched some of "A Christmas Love Story." I decided to record it to make watching the rest quicker! I'll share later or tomorrow how I did like it.

Hi Shelley..first,,you are not the only crazy cat lady on here,,I am one also! I lost one of mine last Friday, his name was Tiger. I hope Xena's mass isn't cancerous. You have a tough choice to make if it is, but I have also been there and done that. You have to do what you have to do.
Second..when you want to reply to multiple people..find the post you want to answer to, click the quote button , then go down to reply and click insert quotes..you can add multiple quotes and reply to each on in one post if that helps you out!
Hello Lynxstch- I saw your post earlier about Tiger and I wanted to say how sorry I am for your loss. I have lost too many cats over the years and it never gets any easier, hugs to you. :grouphug: Thank you for the tutorial on replying- can I get a how to video, lol.

DH plans to try to teach Josh how to ice skate at some point this winter :) We have a rink about 5 minutes from our house. That is, if they're actually open this year. DH played hockey at the same rink when he was young (it's a big deal because he lived 45 minutes away, but they came all the way out here). I don't ice skate myself and I don't want to learn at this point. With my luck, I'll break something.

I've wanted to get a membership to the Springfield Museums since last year - they always have nice traveling exhibits throughout the year - but with the COVID there is too much uncertainty and I don't want to splurge on that right now. We also wanted to get passes to Legoland, now that there will be one 2.5 hours away in New York. But waiting to see what happens there as well.

I could have done without much of A Christmas Love Story. I didn't feel the chemistry between Scott Wolf (who I'll always think of as from Party of Five) and the actress. I did love his relationship with his movie son. The beginning and end of the movie to me were some of the best parts because they featured traditional Christmas music--my favorite. I admit to not much liking the duet though that ended the choir performance.

I thought I did have The Magic Stocking recorded. I think I did but it only recorded part of it or something....anyway should it come on again I'll check it out. I have heard it's not too good. I definitely have at least 3 other movies recorded. I do look every morning at the guide.

Shellsbutt, so glad you are posting again today :) Continued prayer for your cat.

Apirateslifeforme, I think that's really neat Josh will get to play hockey at the same rink as his Dad. I've never ice skated either and at this point don't plan to try lol. My Grandma, I have the vague memory of her sharing as a young adult she did ice skate. I did roller skate as a kid but was never too great at it. I have a friend now who was a professional ice skater at one time.

I hope each of you are having a good evening! :)

Good morning everyone. Gray, windy, and cloudy outside. They say our high temp will be 43, but we are at 46 now. I just feel 'blah' today, I think it's just the thought of the holidays that are going to be so different, and not being able to be around family causing it. Hubby is hoping to get the medicare supplemental thing all taken care of today when the broker calls. That will be one more thing crossed off the 'to do before retirement' day of Dec 4 happens.

I have a whole bunch of holiday movies taped, but just haven't had the time, or the inclination to watch any more of them yet. Just can't get motivated this week for some reason. I hate that it's vacation and we can't go anywhere or do anything :(

I just love reading all of the posts from everyone, keeping up with you makes my day brighter!
Have a Happy Tuesday all!

A crisp looking fall day. Can’t say with certainty as I haven’t been outside yet but that’s not too far away as I see the local farmers’ market is setting up.
Spent too much time reorganizing the base cabinets in the kitchen. What goes on down there when I sleep? Wild parties with pots and plastic containers mingling-such hussies! 😁 Everyone is back in their own corral and we’ll see how long it lasts.

Stopped posting to be one of the first customers at the market and check the weather, up close and personal. Hmm...not really crisp, closer to balmy yet still and happily not winter. Going to make some more soup so bought everything needed, veggie wise except the celery.
DGD’s final was canceled yesterday due to technical problems so today is the new date. Made her scrambled eggs and bacon on a croissant, a pot of her favorite tea (Topsy Turvy from Disney! LOL ) and a nibble plate of sliced fresh and dried fruit and nuts. Let her wear her pjs to class today as no one will see her but me. Hope she’s relaxed and has brain on warp speed.

QOTD: I grew up on many many many sayings ( you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink; coconut head make soft bottom; cute is now, smart is forever; and the ever popular you can’t have your cake and eat it too, etc.
The one made up for my sons: “Contrary to your current understanding, there is NO Academy Award for acting stupid“.

Need to find some papers for the accountant so I’m off to see where they are.
Enjoy the beauty!

Thank you for the kind words,,I miss the little guy so much! You're welcome for the replying tutorial, but I don't know how to do video's, so I am no help on that one. Maybe some other member of this DIS family can help you with that!

Well the phone appt didn't go as planned. At 9:20 the insurance agency called, and said the girl who was supposed to call him, called in with a family emergency. So now it's set for Thursday at 9. Not sure that he can pick and sign up for a supplemental plan yet, as he doesn't technically have his Part B card. Shouldn't take SS long to get that added and send him a new card with the info. At any rate, the girl can give us the company's that work in MD and what the rates are. Then he can just call her when he gets the part B added and she can sign him up then.
We had a little rain, now have bright sunshine..weird weather once again!
@NYCgrrl You are lucky you still have farmers markets there. Ours have been gone for almost a month already :( I miss fresh summer produce already! I also love that 'cute is now, smart is forever' saying!

I also like "cute is now, smart is forever." Good Morning everyone as well. It's cool and sunny here. Hard to believe November is finishing up. During this time Dad and I have enjoyed watching The Price is Right. I believe a couple months ago the show began filming again this new season. Yesterday was the first episode. It's so weird and, IMO, not necessary! There is no audience. The 6 contestants know in advance they are going to be chosen so it is only them, Drew, the announcer, probably a model or two and that's it. Didn't even watch much of it, just not fun. It's not like there aren't 48 other seasons to show repeats from :P

Hug, Lynxstch on tiger.

NYCgrrl, so good to have you posting more :)

Wow, I haven't watched The Price is Right in so long- my mom loves it and has been watching it daily. No audience sounds so bizarre and not fun at all. The audience participation is what makes the show :confused3 Honestly haven't watched since Bob Barker left.
