Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Good morning everyone. Gray, windy, and cloudy outside. They say our high temp will be 43, but we are at 46 now. I just feel 'blah' today, I think it's just the thought of the holidays that are going to be so different, and not being able to be around family causing it. Hubby is hoping to get the medicare supplemental thing all taken care of today when the broker calls. That will be one more thing crossed off the 'to do before retirement' day of Dec 4 happens.

I have a whole bunch of holiday movies taped, but just haven't had the time, or the inclination to watch any more of them yet. Just can't get motivated this week for some reason. I hate that it's vacation and we can't go anywhere or do anything :(

I just love reading all of the posts from everyone, keeping up with you makes my day brighter!
Have a Happy Tuesday all!
Good morning to you too! Happy retirement to your husband, how exciting. I can't get in the mood to watch any holiday movies either. If they're Hallmark movies I won't be watching them anyway-too cheesy for me, my husband loves them. I always start with Christmas Vacation on Black Friday but not sure about it this year. I might just take a break from it all and hopefully things will be better next Christmas.

ITA, Shelley! until the pandemic I never did watch the Price is Right with Drew Carey. It's not the same as it was with Bob at all. It was still fun and gave Dad and I something extra to enjoy right now together for which I was grateful. The current new season did start yesterday. I sadly don't think with the way things are going out here in LA, filming will continue for very long. I have no clue how many episodes have been filmed already. Maybe early next year the reruns might start again. I just see TPIR as cheesy fun, sometimes the audience is over the top, but without that the feel is not the same.

I tried watching two Christmas movies I had recorded. Christmas Card and Christmas Ring. I just couldn't get into either. I still do have Christmas in Angel Falls to watch.

TV mystery of sorts! Ours is being quite odd. It started either last Friday or Saturday when I noticed the guide on any channel no longer showed programming past early Sunday morning. Dad called Spectrum who did a reboot which solved that issue. The reboot did though cause me to lose some Christmas movies I had set to record (it wiped the to be recorded stuff). That was no biggie. Here's the strange part, keep in mind our TV is not even 2 years old. We got it in early Spring of last year. It's a Vizio. Sometimes, not always by any means, when I turn off the TV and put the remote down (either immediately or shortly thereafter) the TV comes back on! It gets weirder. Sometimes only the V (for Vizio) shows up. Other times the entire TV turns on to whatever channel was last watched. This also seems to happen randomly as well. Yesterday, Dad was reading the newspaper (not near the TV) I was in another room when it came on! It can't just be (I don't think) a loose connection. I do not believe in ghosts (except for of course the Holy Ghost/Spirit)! This is odd and again only started after the reboot! Any ideas? :)

@flyingdumbo127 That is odd about your tv. We have a Vizio in the bedroom, but it's never done that. We had a power hiccup Sunday morning and it caused our whole system to reboot , the computer and both tivo's , and the tv. When the tivo came back on., the only channel I could get was #1. Yet I could see and watch all of my recorded shows. I rebooted it again, and still the same thing. So I unplugged it and waited about 5 min, then restarted the box, and so far everything is working right again. It almost sounds like you have a short of some kind in the tv. Call Spectrum again and have them troubleshoot for you?

I have a question for you. I heard or read somewhere that CA is in 'purple zone' again. That means stricter stay put rules if I remember right? But I also read that they are talking about reopening schools there, and that once they are open again, they will not close them. That sounds like just asking for more trouble that it would be worth. Did I read and understand all of that correctly, if you know? TIA! Lynn

Lynxstch, waving hi :), we also had a power outage this past weekend early Saturday morning for about an hour. I'm sorry you had one on Sunday. That is weird about only getting channel 1! The other thing that happens now is overnight the cable box turns off by itself. So when we turn the TV on in the morning, in order to get a picture, we have to press "Cable." Once that is done, it automatically goes to Spectrum News which I think is channel 3. Maybe that is similar to your channel 1? Not sure if I have ever heard of channel 1! I'm glad to hear all is A-okay with your TV! TV's are more important right now, aren't they? That's a good point that perhaps the TV has a short. We will call Spectrum. I'll share what they say later :)

CA, well LA county where I live, has always been in purple. I honestly think the 4 tier system is very confusing and also seems to be pointless because why for example can bars be open but not schools? I think now ALL of CA is purple. Any schools that were open have to close. Indoor dining is shuttered. There has been talk of perhaps mandating a curfew again (like during the protests). I am not a big fan of how CA government has handled this overall! There needs to be consistency along with, more important, honesty! I think a lot of CA things that did open probably should not have done so to begin with!

Good morning/afternoon everyone! I took my kitty in yesterday-what a process that was. I sat in the car with my husband for almost two hours.I thought maybe the vet doing the procedure would call in afterwards and explain so he could listen in, nope. There was some confusion when I called to check in and asked if we needed to be there or if we could just drop her off. I made the mistake of asking how long it would take to put her to "sleep" and they asked- I'm sorry, is she being put to sleep or sedated?" Yikes- no, sedated! We should have the results in a few days. Xena did not make a sound in the car, she never does. I'm sure she's terrified.

We went on a Trader Joe's run this morning so I could pick up some seasonal goodies. We bought the dark chocolate oranges, chocolate covered peppermint jo jos and lots of other stuff we probably don't need. I also picked up a book from the library I'd put on hold. My local library(I also volunteer there) has now been closed for eight months. They started doing curbside pick up several months ago. Anyway, the book is called The Obesity Code, lol. Nothing like a little light reading, right? I need to meet my annual reading goal challenge this year. I also need to lose thirty pounds, but then I've been saying that for the past ten years.

I'm excited to sit down this evening and start watching the newest season of The Crown. Maybe I'll fix myself a cup of tea too. Hope everyone has a great day!!

Oh, we had a similar problem with our vizio tv!
It has to do with a setting....

go to menu
go to setting/system settings
go to CEC and turn it off.

See if that helps!

Also, it could be something like a cable box. When it goes on, to update, sometimes they 'click' the tv on as well.

Or, check power mode on the tv. If it's on 'eco mode', try 'quick start'.

Good Tuesday.

Watching Gov. Hogan again. Then grocery shopping, and getting a CFA peppermint chip milkshake.

Ordered a few more Christmas gifts this morning and some "party" lights for the screened porch. Been reading a lot and watching mindless TV.
Oh wow, I love those Peppermint milkshakes, they are so good! It's not Christmas time without having at least one. My nearest Chick Fil A is always so busy, I think they all are though. I missed out on the peach shakes this summer, lol.

Enjoy your shake, Carol! I hear you on mindless TV and extra reading! :)

Thanks B&B! Will try that! I have thought forever the cable box needs to be replaced! In fact last year when it seemed to have issues often, Spectrum said should it occur again to replace the book. When Dad called this last time and asked about the box, the representative just said something about unless it needs to be rebooted weekly it should be fine. I am not even sure how we would get a new box right now! I do think that is part of the trouble.

Oh my goodness, how awful and inappropriate as well, Shelley, I'm sorry :( Poor Xena as well. I hope you enjoy your treats and shows :)

Watching Gov. Hogan again.

Listening here, keeping fingers crossed....

CFA peppermint chip milkshake.

I DID NOT know this was a thing! hmmmmmm

Flyingdumbo - for what it is worth we have a Vizio TV and sometimes it acts up. I'll turn it off but it won't turn off completely. Sometimes the screen just goes blue, sometimes it'll turn off completely.

So I heard of something new (to me)today, a stuffing waffle. Looks like what you do is take your leftover stuffing, glop it in a waffle iron and cook it like a waffle, then you take your leftover turkey/veggies/potatoes/cranberry sauce or whatever your poison is, and put it on top of the waffle. Top with gravy if that is your thing. I'm seriously contemplating this Thanksgiving weekend!
Glop is a highly technical chefs technique if you aren't familiar with it.

The persnickety pup in our house has a wound of sorts on one of his toes/toenails. No doubt picked up during one of his jaunts thru the woods/barns. Problem is does does not tolerate anyone touching his feet, under any circumstances. He allowed me to take a close look though, and snuck into bed with me last night before my husband came to bed, to burrow under my shoulder, which he only does when he doesn't feel good or my husband isn't home and he has to protect his side of the bed🐶 - so it was definitely bothering him. We'll watch it, and him for the next day or so. Hopefully he'll let me put some antibiotic ointment on it later - if there is cheese involved of course!

Youngest has his official start date for his next Army assignment, and he'll be moving out sometime during the first week of December - he already has an apartment over between DC & Baltimore, but has been staying at the house because he's been picking up some hours at our shop to supplement his income and spend some time hunting with this brother & father. I expect to see him most weekends and over the Christmas holidays but after that I think he will try to get a steady work-life-living routine down over there for the next year. Fortunate to have him so close to home, although I suspect in the next few years he may find himself much further away, possibly out of any area his parents can visit!

Dinner this evening is going to be grilled boneless chicken thighs w/ ???? I have no idea. A salad, maybe some rice? We will see what the pantry has in it. I'm going to work on my Thanksgiving list(s) and menu, start fine tuning things. I could be cooking for 2 or 25 and I'd still have lists upon lists.

I have a Dr. appt. up near our Costco (45 + minutes away) tomorrow afternoon, so I may make a pit stop there. I still need to get my hands a ham for next week.

Windy, chilly here. I hope the dogs have a fire going when I get home!

Sounds like it might be sensitive to some other gadget in your house that’s operating on the same frequency as your remote. Keep track of anything else you’re using at the time.

Alternately, are you in an apartment building? Someone on the other side of the wall might be using the same brand of remote. I wouldn’t think it could pick it up, but I agree with you on searching for an explanation other than ghosts.

Hug, Easyas123! I hope your dogs do have a warm fire going when you come home. Thank you for that smile :) Prayers of safety for your DS. I sure thank him for his service!

PollyannaMom, yes I am in an apartment and these walls are very thin indeed! Good idea to think about what other electronics are being used.

:( Sparkle. I would not be at all surprised should CA soon follow suit and with an earlier time at that.

Watching Ohio’s governor now, putting a 10 pm curfew on gatherings at homes and restaurants
Here in MD, too. Well, the restaurant one anyway. How do they regulate who is in someone's house after 10PM??? Oh well, I haven't seen 10PM for a long time anyway! Sounds like we are getting restrictions on visiting folks in hospital/nursing homes with few exceptions. I was able to listen briefly to our Gov speak a bit ago...I had to take a call soon after he started and missed most of it!

Do any of you have a Yahoo email account? I have two. One I use for personal email and the other one for (in non plague times) store offers like CVS or Kohls or even Disboard alerts :) I received in one yahoo email this message twice (sent 15 minutes apart. The "From" field is two different yahoo people! I have not gotten any messages in my other email. Dad also has a Yahoo account and will check shortly.

This is what the message said:

Dear Yahoo User,

The Classic version of Yahoo Mail will be replaced by our new version on 19th of November 2020. So it's time to upgrade, before you lose your email access.

Failure to upgrade your Yahoo account, your account will be permanently shut down.

Please take the following steps: (There is a verification link-- to upgrade, I guess)

YEARS ago I did have Yahoo email trouble. I did not create a Yahoo email again until the two above mentioned addresses last year due to Spectrum email at that time issues. Overall, I've sort of felt Spectrum email was safer. Not sure why, just did! I was just wondering whether any of you also got this message. It seems odd to only give a day and a half notice should this be real+ the 2 different "Froms." I do try to be very cautious online so this definitely raised a possible red flag of sorts.

Thank you. I hope each of you are having a good afternoon!

Maryland is back to stage 2 :(
Hogan said bars and restaurants, 50% capacity, and must close at 10 pm.
Bowling alleys, movie theaters, churches, only 50% capacity (aren't they still that way anyhow)?
Limited or no visitors at nursing homes I think also got flashed on the screen.
Nothing about gatherings at people's houses,,at least not yet here

Will people ever learn to just follow protocol?? :(

I haven't had yahoo email for years @flyingdumbo127 , so can't help you there. I use my atlantic broadband email or gmail.

I DID NOT know this was a thing! hmmmmmm
Peppermint chocolate chip shakes. Only at Christmas time. Yesterday was the first day. DD got one yesterday and I got one today. And I had a reward for a free milkshake so made it even better.

This sounds good. I hope I can do this highly technical technique.

I hope your pup is ok and has a fire going for you.

Sounds like it might be sensitive to some other gadget in your house that’s operating on the same frequency as your remote.
This reminds me of something that happened when I was a child, in the early 60s. Our neighbors had a tv with one of the first remotes. Must have worked on some sound level. When their dog jumped on and off the sofa its collar jingled, the tv turned on and off. At least that is how I remember it.

I had to take a call soon after he started and missed most of it!
Didn't miss much. It isn't changing how I am living.

Do any of you have a Yahoo email account?
Yahoo is my primary email. I have not received that email and I would be leery of it too. I think my account may have upgraded on its own.

It has been nice to read everyone's posts and find out what everyone is doing. This is day 2 of the staycation (actually day 4 if you include the weekend.) We did grocery shopping this morning which I don't usually do but I made it through the store. Then we got a treat for breakfast, fresh bagels which is a once or twice a year treat. Then we went to Target, Kohl's, and Staples. We did alot of Christmas shopping for the grandkids. I did not find a baby doll I like for my younger DGD. I want a soft body doll as I as sure she will whack someone with it while carrying it around by the leg and it won't be by accident.
Then we took Jasper for a walk, went for a walk ourselves, and now we are resting. Tomorrow is Trader Joe's and finally starting on the cleanup for getting an exercise bike. Busy week but it is nice to have the time to get some things done.

@Shellsbutt Poor Xena. I hope she is doing better and you get some good news. It is so hard now since we can't be with them at the vet.

@flyingdumbo127 I hope you can solve the TV issue. I have not watched Price is Right in ages. I remember the really old one with Bill Cullen I believe. I was really young when that was on but my grandmother liked it.

@lynxstch Social security and medicare are so difficult to deal with. It should be much easier to do. DH is reading books for dummies on both topics. So far we are still working and he has health insurance with work so for now we don't need to do it but it on the horizon for DH in a few years.

I have not been in the mood for Hallmark movies lately. We usually watch Christmas Vacation after Thanksgiving but I am not sure I will want to. Maybe closer to Christmas.

I was watching Valerie Bertinelli on the Food Network last week or the week before, and she made these..they looked so good!

Thanks, Lynxstch! Sigh, I sure wish people would choose to follow protocol and be kinder toward others as well! I'm sorry about your state also going backward :(

Carol, free shakes are the very tastiest kind! :) I am going to ignore the emails but keep an eye out! I actually have 3 email accounts right now (2 Yahoo and 1 Spectrum which I had originally got because I thought it would be used for a church project. It wasn't so I still have it). I could easily create a second Spectrum email and be done with Yahoo if need be.

You did some good shopping, Snowysmom! Glad you were able to get out and do that. Always continued prayer for Jasper! I need to find some better Hallmark movies to watch lol! I'd appreciate any upcoming recommendations from you and everyone else :)

ETA: I have saved all my email contacts on my flash drive. I took a lot of time (lol too much time) to compare that list to my contact list. I discovered some people who I have had as contacts for years had vanished! I updated the list on my flash drive. I'd recommend having a backup list of contacts both for email and phone.
