QSDP with young children: Please share your thoughts/tips

Kids' meals are tasty and fairly large at WPE (and they don't have a kids menu for breakfast, and those entrees are HUGE!), so we ate there at least twice and sometimes 3x when we went on the QSDP. We also liked the choices at Sunshine Seasons and Captain Cooks (in Poly).

The food court at POP had a penne and meatball kids dinner that my daughters really liked, and I would use my CS dessert credit to get them a giant sundae.

I also would say it never hurts to ask about substitutions at different places. Such as alfredo sauce instead of marinara. Or at Tangierine cafe, where they let my daughter have Moroccan rice as a side instead of french fries.

Sometimes I could add something for a snack credit (like a bowl of soup) that would allow me to split my adult CS meal with my mom, and that would free up an "extra" CS meal in case someone got hungry.

We also would eat as we got hungry, and CS places are usually fairly quick if it's not peak times. So no one was "forced" to find something to eat at a certain place if they didn't like anything on the menu....my older daughter refused to eat anything at Tangierine cafe, but the Liberty Inn was just a few minutes away, so she waited til then and got something there.

Honestly, we never had many problems and that's with two kids who 1) refuse to eat hamburgers and 2) don't like WDW mac and cheese.

I don't know about everyone else but a "vacation' is supposed to be relaxing and enjoyable. No part of a sit down resturant style meal everyday that is preplanned MONTHS in advance for time and type of food is relaxing with toddlers or the under 8 set.

We did the QSDP when we went in May of 09. I haven't read through any of the other responses but i'll give you my opinion.

At the time my kids were 5, 7 9 and 12. And then of course there was me and dh. There was sooo much food, so don't worry about it not being enough. On the day we checked out we had 7 CS meals left and 36 snack credits left between the 6 of us.

The mugs were amazing. I would never do Disney without them. And the fact that we had 2 snack credits per day was great. We would always use one each for breakfast, now we know we could even use more than one. We did things like fruit salads, yogurts, bagels with cream cheese.

That was the wonderful thing about the QSDP. When you were ready to ate you could go eat no matter where you were. We never had a problem finding a table to sit at (guess that depends on when you're going, we went in early May) Desserts came with every CS meal we had. We just simply had so much food it was great. We usually did ice cream at night and lemonades when we were hot.

We're going back in November and would like to try the DDP for the character meals, but are not sure yet, we may go with the QSDP again. If we did DDP we'd have to buy the mugs and even though all meals come with desserts my kids never really had room for much of them right after we ate, so with the QS it's nice to have all those snack credits for later when they are looking for a treat.

Good luck, i'm sure whatever you choose to go with will be great, but by the way it sounds you'd be less stressed out with the QS.

Man - you all have me rethinking the DDP. This will be our first time staying on property, BLT. Planning on doing character meals because kiddos are DS7 and DD5. I will have to do some math and see if paying OOP for some of that would be better and just do the QSDP.

I'm sure you would be just fine with the DDP. You'll still have another snack credit if the kids need something to hold them over til your ADR. The thing with the QS though is that it has 2 snacks per day. So we got to use one for breakfast items. (Cinnamon rolls from the Main st Bakery were my favorite) and then still have a snack credit for a snack. BUT with your CS and TS meal both coming with desserts you may not need anymore than that. I've never done the regular ddp so i cannot speak for that.
