You don't have to eat at the same locations for the counter service, do you? We're going to have to go to separate places for food that will make everyone happy. Related to that question, if my son (who will be an adult on the plan) wants a "child's chicken nuggets meal, and my husband goes to the counter to pick it up while the rest of the family goes to another QS location, how will they know? Can we get an order off the child's menu rather than the adult menu without breaking some rule?

According to Disney's written rule (in dining plan brochures and literature), if you paid a child's price for a dining plan you must use the credits allocated to the child to buy meals from a children's menu, where one exists.

However, if you paid an adult price for the plan you SHOULD be able to buy a child meal using an adult credit. Just place the order, and if you are questioned by the cashier, say you know they are adult credits, but you want to order from the children's menu. You can also pay cash if he wants a kid's meal, and save the adult DDP credit.

And yes, you can go to different restaurants.
