Qr code menu

We just came back from our first post covid trip.

I did not realize that qr menus were now the norm, and they make me irrationally angry. Lol. I know it is a silly thing to be bothered by, but here we are.

When I spend 150 for what was a crappy lunch, at least give me a menu. (I did ask and did receive, after being told they only give when "necessary")

I dont go to many sit down restaurants in general. Is this happening all over the restaurant industry (non disney)? Are fancy restaurants even going this way? Personally, I feel like it takes away from the experience. I want to put my phone down and not deal with zooming in and out. I like seeing everything at one time (also the reason the removal of paper times guides bothers me) I have never been to victoria and alberts, but I cant even imagine paying for that and being told scan your code.

Yes, it is happening all over the restaurant industry. Even had them on my cruise (not DCL).

Victoria and Albert's has not reopened so we don't know, but Topolino's still had menus at dinner. Pretty much everyplace else I went to at WDW, you had to ask for a paper menu. It probably won't change back anytime soon either.

Feel your pain. I noticed some of those QR codes for menus weren't working for DH and I at WDW two weeks ago. We had to ask for paper menus a few times.

It's not just Disney that has QR code menus. Every non chain restaurant in my area is using QR code menus and a lot of them don't even have paper menus printed to give to people (which I don't love but nothing I can do about it). Half the time I couldn't get the code to scan on my phone and other people in my group had issues too. Not sure that I agree that it takes away from the experience. I look at the menu for a few minutes, order and then only look at it again if I want to order a different drink or a dessert.

I don't think it's that big of a deal and I'm not exactly sure how it takes away from the experience. You look at the menu for less than 5 minutes then it's taken away.

It bothers me because I like to see all the options in one place without zooming in and out and scrolling. Picking my food, looking at the kids menu, looking at the drink menu etc. Simple as that. Same thing with the times guide...i liked all the showtimes and character locations in a centralized place. The app was awful for that in my opinion.

Also, my kids are reading age, but not phone age. Still at the age they like to color their menu while waiting. The kids menus she brought actually had little puzzles on them, that they wpuld have done, but we had to give them back lol

In addition, there are times the phone just doesnt cooperate. I lost service for like 30 minutes in AK.

Agree its not a huge deal. I have probably only had a sit down meal 5 or 6 times since covid. Ranging from high end to local tapas place to bob Evans, and all had regular menus. So it took me for a surprise.

What did you have for lunch that cost $150? I can't recall any place in Epcot where you would spend that much on lunch for yourself.

At any rate, I've found that if you just ask for a paper menu they will happily bring you one.

Family of 4 at coral reef.

I've actually gotten to like the QR menus.
Some of our local restaurants that use the QR menus also let you order directly from it. It does mean less interaction with the wait staff, but on a busy night it saves time.
Instead of waiting for the server to come to your table for a second drink, dessert, etc, I can just put in my order and the server brings it shortly thereafter.

Not even the best paper menu is going to save that restaurant, unless there was a coupon on the menu for everyone's lunch for free.
It really was awful. I should have known better. I thought it would keep the kids occupied by looking at the aquarium. My drink was good and my husband liked the salmon. Thats about it.

During our trip to Hawaii in Oct 2021 most every restaurant was using QR Codes - many so they were not touching menus (yes were past that part of Covid now) but also since it allowed them to quickly make changes add/remove items base on suppliers, etc. Most also offered other menus if you ask for them. Around my home, I see very few places still using them. But I ran into one Saturday that had a full menu for food but for the bar menu and lunch menu you had to use QR codes - they lost bar sales that night as I couldn't get the bar QR code to work and the people we were with did not even bring their phones in with them.

IMHO Disney is still being cheap, but I also understand as a huge consumer of raw products they may have supplier issues as well. Either way I'm not a fan of QR codes either, but I doesn't upset me that much either.

Then there are some of us who have no idea how QR code menus work, seem to forget after it's explained, so as a result, I have to ask how it works almost every time. I just realized that we're going to WDW this week, and once again, I have no idea what to do when confronted with QR code menus.

Take a picture of it with your phone. The phone "should" automatically go to the website and display the menu.

I actually like the QR code menus. It cuts down on paper for paper menus, which is more environmentally friendly. It also cuts down on their labor. People have to actually pass out the menus, collect the menus, and wipe down the non-paper menus.
