Ok, this is a two part question... please don't feel that you have to give out names, you don't.. I know we all worry about privacy....

1. Were you named after anyone?

2. How did you come up with your child(rens) names?

1. I was named after my great-grandmother and my great-Aunt. Mom had a dream right before she delivered me and my Great-Grandma was telling her that we would be fine... So, in honor of her Grandmother, I got my name.. My Great-Aunt also shares that name and tells everyone I was named for her..which isn't the case but we agree with her.

2. How did we come up w/ our children's names..
Child 1... was named w/ the initials of DH's favorite college football team.. but his middle name is actually DH's ex's maiden name.
Child 2... was suppose to be a boy.... so we had chose his named based on that w/ DH's middle name.... so when she came into the world a GIRL.. we decided to keep the first name the same and adjust her middle name... and it worked perfectly.. than her second middle name was named for my Granny...
Child 3...was named for DH's middle name
Child 4... I wanted to name after DH.. DH didn't want too.. So, he chose his first name..and I got to use DH's name as the middle..
Child 5... I wanted to use a friend's name... and I love the middle name.. DH couldn't wrap himself around the friend's name.. so he adjusted it.. and I got to keep his middle name!
We do a lot of compromising around here! ;)

My middle name is for my favorite aunt (shhhh, don't tell the other aunts), my mom's older sister.

DD was named by her grandmothers on accident. My mom called me a few days after we found out I was pregnant with names and one of the names was really pretty. My MIL called literally 20 minutes after I got off the phone with my mom and suggested the SAME pretty name that my mom had. So DD had her name from the beginning! DH picked her middle name.

I gave DS his name! Finally after not having anything to do with DD's name, I picked DS's! His middle name has part of DD's middle name in it.

My middle name is the same as my moms.

I'm still working on a name for my first little one. He will have my DHs fathers first name as his middle name.

Let's see:
DH was named after his grandfather.
Me real name is my paternal grandmothers middle name and her daughters first name.
Buffy was given to me by my brother, he could not say the shortened version of my name, it came out Buf.
Not sure where my middle name came from.

OK funny story with the kids. We never, ever pick names til we are on the way to the hospital. It's rather comical. It drove people batty!!! DS6's name we were still deciding on when he was born.

DS11's - We did not know what we were having. We had a girls name, Emily Elizabeth, so of course he wasn't a girl. We had a boys middle name picked out, same as DH's first name again named for DH's grandfather who had passed away the year before. We decided on his first name on the way to the hospital. My BFF had mentioned it months earlier and it fit, plus it's the Irish version of my FIL's name.

DS7 - Again no idea what we were having, he didn't want to share that info with us. Girls name, Emily Elizabeth, LOL of course he's not a girl. We liked DS7's name for DS11 but the first and middle names didn't fit together. So we kept the first name and used my courtesy uncles first name as his middle name. The meaning of DS7's name fits him to a T too.

DS6 - Well, DS11 and DS7's names end in -an, so we had a theme going here so we stuck with it. We did know we were having a boy so Emily was out. We really just narrowed it down by finding Irish names that end in -an. Which was rather simple to do! And is middle name is the first name of our friends son. Which, btw, DS6 is calling himself nowadays. LOL

DD1 - One would think that her name would be easy right??? Emily Elizabeth?? Yeah, I was never one to follow the rules now am I? We had it narrowed down to 5 names. DH wanted to use a Disney princesses name for her middle name, so we had to find a good first name so we poured through old censuses for first names. We knew we wanted an old name.
And we found the one we liked. Turns out her name is a family name, my maternal great grandmother has the same name, my gramma cried when she found out what we picked. And in doing some research on DH's side of the family we found a family member on his side with the same name. Oh and technically her name is from 2 Disney Princesses! LOL

1. Were you named after anyone?

Yup, my middle name is in honor of the Saint my mom prayed to when she was trying to have a baby. Nothing special with the first, they just liked it.

2. How did you come up with your child(rens) names?

DSS was named using DH's first intital...same middle name. DH is a Jr, so they didn't want a III.

DS19 first name was something I heard on TV when I was about 6mo preg. It went well with the family middle name, so we kept it.

DS15 is a TOTALLY other story. True...
I picked up my DS who was 3 at the time from daycare. I was about 3-4 mo preg.

The daycare provider says "I hear you're having a boy"
Me: "Huh?"
Her: "Your son said you are having a boy..."
Me: "Oh really? News to me..." big laugh...

Me (in car on the way home): "Why did you tell Miss Jo that I'm having a boy baby?"
DS (so cute and innocent): "God put a boy baby in your tummy...and his name is going to be Adam"

Me (to DH later that night after telling him that story): "Well, whadda ya think?"
DH: "Works for me"
ME: "Works for me too"

Well, you asked... :lmao:

I was supposed to be named Krystina Noelle. Both my parents agreed, the nurse asked my Mom for the name and out popped Hope ... My Dad apparently, just stared at her and said, "Huh?" My Mom calls it divine intervention.

I'm not named after anyone now, and neither would I have been. Noelle was because I was born on schedule to be a Christmas baby.

I was named for my Grandmother & Great-Grandmother on my Dad's side and my Grandmother on my Mom's. I have a two part first name. No middle name. Thank goodness. My maiden name was a doozy all by itself, no need to add more letters for a Kindergartener to learn.

My eldest is named after the two great-grandfathers on DH's side. I  his middle name, so that is what we call him. His first name is the same as his Dad, Grand-Dad, & Great-Grand-Dad.

My youngest's first name is from his Great-Great-Grand Dad on my DH's side and his middle name is the same as my eldest's first name. I wanted to call him by his middle name, cause it would have been funny in school - well to me anyway. But he acts like his first name and couldn't be anything else.

I was named after my grandmother for my middle name. My parents were trying to decide on a first name and they liked Rebecca and decided that since the first time it mentions a man in woman in love she would work well. My middle name is Love.

We don't have children but we do have names picked out for either a girl or boy although we are still playing around with the girls first name. The girl would have my middle mname (family name that is passed down to the first girl in each family) and the boy would be named after my mother's father and DH's father's father.

Rebecca

I can only answer #1 - I was named for a character in a book (also a movie and I think a tv series). Allison MacKenzie from Peyton Place. It was my mother's favorite "naughty" book when she was young. Hmmm...

No kids and my dog came with a name. Though his name is one of the reasons DH agreed to get him.

well for me i think it's kinda funny.
my parents had very good friends and their names were mr. and mrs. wood. my mom and mrs. wood were preg at the same time. so in conversation my mom asked mrs. wood if they had any names picked out? and her reply was if we have a girl, which is what we hope for, we are going to name her holly! can you believe it!!!???? holly wood. really why would you? and no boy names picked out. so fast forward they have their babies and they had a boy (thank goodness) and my mother had me. so she asked her if she could have the holly name. so there you have it.

my ds is named after dh's grandfather who passed when my mil was in high school. he's not really named after him. we just loved the name. (and still do) but from the very beginning we called him that. i had no idea if i was having a boy or a girl, but everyday i would rub my belly and call him by his name. both 1st and middle was picked out asap. and i wanted to spell it one way and dh wanted to spell it another way. but we had different middle names picked out. so on the way to the hospital dh said, "if its a boy i'll give you the middle name you want if you let me spell it the way i want". so the deal was made. (his middle name is dh's first name) but sometimes i call him his 1st name with the middle name dh wanted. (which is what we should have named him) ssssshhhhh don't tell dh.
wow that's a long story!

There are 2 different stories to who I was named after. My mother tells them both, so I think it just depends on who she's talking to. ;) I am a middle name person (I go by my middle name). My first and middle names were the names of a set of twins on "One Life to Live" (I think). One was evil, one was good. . .it's a daily battle which one wins with me! :rotfl2: The other story my mom tells is that both names were in a book she was reading, and she liked them both. There's no one in my family named either one, so no family thing there.

A funny, though: I'm from a small, small town, and my mother grew up in the even smaller small town right next to it. They used to run a "gossip column" in the town paper and the writer would give a "shout out" of sorts to the people who had had children. My grandfather (mom's dad) called the gossip lady as soon as I was born. He was so excited about it, and when she asked what my name was, he couldn't remember. He told her that it was 2 names (I just use 1) and that both of them were "nature-y". He said, "Oh! I know what it is!! It's "Heavenly Branch"!" So, my birth announcement in the gossip column ran as Heavenly Branch!!

DH & I have boy and girl names picked out too. We will use DH's middle name as a middle name for the boy, and then a name I like for the first name. For the girl, we're stuck between 3 for the first name, and the middle name of my favorite kid I ever coached (who is like a daughter to DH & I) as the middle name.

1. While my mom was in labor, she was watching a movie with Dyan Cannon in it and she like how her name was spelled and gave me her name.

2. I don't know how I came up with my kids names, I think I just liked them. I almost named my DD Macy Paige and sometimes want another girl, just to use the name. Just not that bad!:teeth:;)

SIOH - I am SO calling you Heavenly Branch from now on. :rotfl2:

Honestly I'm mortified by the story behind my name. I was born in the 70s (darn decade!) and my parents wanted a "pretty" name. My Dad said everyone he'd ever heard of with the name Suzanne was pretty so they went with that. So in a way, I'm named after Suzanne Pleshette and Suzanne Somers. :crazy2:

All my stepdaughters have names that start with "A". Keep in mind DH and his ex were teenagers when they had their kids - they unwittingly gave one daughter the same name as a famous Black Panther. Worked out well for her as she did every book report and social studies project she could on her namesake throughout school and her teachers always got a kick out of it. Youngest was named (with some influence by her big sisters) after The Little Mermaid.

well for me i think it's kinda funny.
my parents had very good friends and their names were mr. and mrs. wood. my mom and mrs. wood were preg at the same time. so in conversation my mom asked mrs. wood if they had any names picked out? and her reply was if we have a girl, which is what we hope for, we are going to name her holly! can you believe it!!!???? holly wood. really why would you?

We have a local newscaster that her real name is Holly Wood but she uses her middle name of Patrice. My favorite newscaster too boot.:lmao:

No story behind my name other than my mom liked it. She also saw no point in giving me the formal name Catherine when everyone would call me Cathy anyway. I've always wanted to be Catherine.

My dds - kind of a silly story for dd26. I heard the song Jesse's Girl by Rick Springfield while I was pregnant. I didn't like the song but it made me think of the name Jessica and that became the name.

Dd24 - I had picked out several names including the name Julia. The neighbor's daughter named her baby Julie and I wanted something different. I was watching a movie with Lauren Bacall and that's how she got her name.

We have a local newscaster that her real name is Holly Wood but she uses her middle name of Patrice. My favorite newscaster too boot.:lmao:

i knew that patrice's real name was holly. i should have added that to the story! i read that in the sunday paper one time. my mom and i laugh about it every now and then. they did a whole story about her. did you know that she has a bunch of adopted kids? she really is a nice person. she ( my mom) said the wood's ended up with 3 boys. they never did get their "holly wood". but really, why would you do that to your kid??!! but then again, you have gweneth paltrow naming her kids Apple and Moses. I mean seriously! why? i guess i'm just to plain jane for that sort of stuff. i want my son to be an individual, but he does not have to have a weirdo name for that. sorry, just my opinion.
glad to know that you're watching newswatch 10! it's our favorite news channel here too!

1. I am not named after anyone but i only have a first name. My mom didn't know she was preggo with twins so when we were born they just spilt the name they had and gave one to me and one to my twin sister. The names sounded really bad together anyway.

2. DD3 was named with my conformation name. Not to be after me but DH just loved the name. Her middle name is paternal great grandmother.

DD 12 days LOL first name is just a name i fell in love with from a song I was playing in thr car while DH and I were fighting over something. shhh he doesn't know that's how i came up w/ it. Middle name is for paternal great great grandmother. We wanted to honor DH's grandmother as she passed away last summer but everyone in family uses her name as middle name so we just went back a generation. Turns out paternal grandfathers grandmother was also a derivitive of name so he is haapy too. We had another name "finalized" but another cousin had a baby mean while and used the same name, so we where back to the drawing board, and above story.

Wow one hand typing takes forever!!!! especially with non dominant hand!

1. Were you named after anyone? Nope

2. How did you come up with your child(rens) names? No kids. But DH and I like traditional names.

Hey Mickeyfan2.. what are you going to do in 30 Days to celebrate your ticker? Are you going to set up a new one?;)
