Q re New Banking Rules wrong on dvcmember site

Hi all. I have an October UY. I was under the impression that with the new rules I could bank 100% of my pts in the first 8 months of my use year. Unless I'm totally loosing it, that should give me until the end of May. But when I log onto dvcmember.com, it tells me that I have until the end of March 2008 to bank 100% of my pts. Have I calculated this wrong or is the dvcmember site wrong.

(For the record, I will probably travel most often in Feb and April so it would be good to be able to bank until at least the end of April).

My understanding is (and I sure someone will helpfully correct me if I'm wrong) is that the new guidelines take effect Januray 1 2008 applying to points received for your 2008 UY.

So the points you received this October (2007) are still bound by the old guidlines. The points you will received October 2008 will be bound by the new.

The new banking rules do not take effect until January, so the deadlines reported on the Member site are still correct at this time.

I would verify with MS that you will have the additional time to bank all of your points after January 1 , but based on the policy still in effect until 1/1/08 the March date is correct.

I believe that your understanding is correct and that you will have until May 31, 2008 to bank your October points.

Yes, beginning on January 1, 2008 members will have 8 months to bank their points - BUT - no points may be banked after that time. We have gained 2 months to bank all of our points, but have lost 2 months to bank some of our points.

Oh, I see ... so they've basically dropped the tiered system. It's 100% all the way through for 8 months, and then 0% after that. So use 'em or bank 'em by the 8 month window or lose 'em?

The issue is this: DVC announced that effective January 1, 2008, the new banking rule would be that you can bank any or all of your points up to 120 days before the end of your use year and no other banking deadlines would apply. It also announced that official notice would likely be sent out to members later this year (in Oct sometime). What it failed to say is whether the new rule would apply only to your use years that begin after Jan 1, 2008 or to existing 2007 use years which run into 2008. I would suspect it is the former. However, until DVC clarifies, hopefully in the offical announcement to be mailed to memebers, we do not know the answer. Thus, to be safe, if you are planning to bank 100% (or anything greater than 50%) of your points from your 2007 use year, you should assume the currently existing 6 month rule applies until and if DVC says otherwise.
