Where do I find this?

Can't seem to find it in NYC, been to most of the obvious places I can think of...Dean and Deluca's, Gourmet Garage, Whole Foods, Associated, D'Ags, etc...

Food Network had a recipe on root beer float cake (I think I saw the recipe also on these boards, not sure) and am trying to find this elusive extract. Can anyone help, or does anyone know a good online site where I won't have to spend $12 shipping for a $4 bottle?

Thanks!!!

:wave2:

We used to buy it in the local grocery store to actually make root beer. Good stuff! But sometimes the bottles exploded :rotfl: Hires made it, I'll look to see if they have a site telling where to get it.

C.ANN posted the recipe on the community board and it did not require Root Beer Extract.....only root beer....
I made it and it was quite good.
I don't know if the extract would give a stronger flavor....but you should search for C.Ann s recipe and compare them!

Edited to add C. Ann's recipe:
Root Beer Float Cake

1 package (18 1/4 oz.) white cake mix (I used Pillsbury Classic White)
1 3/4 cups COLD root beer, divided
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
1 envelope whipped topping mix (I used Dream Whip)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 13"x9"x2" baking pan..

In a mixing bowl, combine dry cake mix, 1 1/4 cup of the root beer, vegetable oil and eggs. Beat on low speed of electric mixer for 2 minutes. Pour into the prepared cake pan and bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove from oven and place the pan on a wire rack to cool completely.

In another mixing bowl, combine the whipped topping mix and remainder of the root beer. Beat with electric mixer until soft peaks form. Frost cooled cake and store in the refrigerator.

Makes 12 to 16 servings

I haven't seen root beer extract in eons!

I would go for C.Anns cake and not worry about it.

Our regular grocery store carries it - with the vanilla and all the other spices. I've never known what it's for - now I do, thanks!

Thanks for everybody's replies, I guess I'll just keep looking!

my local walmart has root beer extract. I see it all the time when I go down the spices isle just to smell the spices :rotfl2: Have you checked Walmart?

No Walmarts near me, unfortunately, but thanks. I'm sure it's around somewhere! :flower:

Hi, I do some cake decorating and I usually get my extracts at craft stores, such as A.C. Moore or Michaels. I can't say for sure if they have root beer, but if you have a craft store near you, it might be worth a try.

Good Luck!

You can often find root beer extract at stores which cater to beer & wine home brewers. :drinking1 Is there a homebrew club in yr state? get in touch & tell them what you're looking for, it will be in one of their catalogues. or Google it
Yes, stores used to commonly carry rootbeer extract--dear old dad made some great rootbeer!
:goodvibes
