PVB - Connecting Studios Not a Booking Category

DVC members cannot book two rooms at the same time. You have to book one and then the other. I will not be surprised that even if it is a reservable category (which I expect it to be) these connecting studios will be something only MS can book.
They could make a new booking category that consists of two connected studios, just as a 2BR lockoff is a booking category consisting of a 1BR connected to a studio.

You would select that booking category and then fill in the guests' names for the entire party. DVC wouldn't care who slept/showered in which studio just as they don't care with a 2BR lockoff who is in the 1BR and who is in the studio.

If they are a booking category, I can see this being like booking a lock-off. I'd expect drop down choices of "Studio-lakeview, Studio-Standard, Connecting Studios-Lakeview, Connecting Studio-Standard, Bungalow". I see no reason this can't be done via the online reservation system other than they went cheap on things.

I hope this is it.

I'm not sure why people think it won't be a booking category. If a guest wants a 2BR lockoff Disney doesn't expect the guest to book a 1BR and a studio separately and then call MS to request that those two rooms connect and hope it works out. So why do people think Disney would choose that approach for guests who want to book connecting studios?

The reason I think it is different because there are no comparable point chart listing. There is one for a 2BR but not for 2 studios. Otherwise wouldn't the point chart show the category of 2 studios? It will be more of a guarantee similar to the boardwalk view at BWV.

Last week on the Member site in the comment section after the announcement of the PVB, I asked if connecting studios would be a booking option. That question has not been answered.

They would have to split up the adults. Someone 18 or over has to be in each room.

Unless it is specifically a booking category, I would be leery. There are stories on the resorts board where people had "guaranteed connecting rooms" printed on their reservation only to find out when they get there that they don't have them. Rare to happen, but it does.

Debbie, I was kidding!

Not to mention, could you imagine a 5 year old and a 7 year old in a room unsupervised....that would turn into a "Kegger" in minutes!

Seriously though I can see some IT issues surrounding it. (correctable ones of course, but ones that they may not have addressed yet.) To guarantee things, room assignments would have to be done at the time of booking, and there would need to be algorithms to maximize possible connecting studios.

The points chart for PVB does not list connecting studios as a separate booking category, and I just read on another site, that this may not be accidental. Two people report confirming with a guide and a sales person on a tour both stated that DVC is NOT guaranteeing connecting studios at PVB for those who book 2 (just like they won't guarantee that rooms will be near each other/in the same building at other resorts). Sounds like they are downplaying this right now, and saying that they don't think that it will be an issue, but I don't know how happy I would be if I plunked down $$$ knowing I would need connecting studios to make my travel plans work on a regular basis and then found myself out of luck. I guess buying 2 fixed weeks would solve the problem, but otherwise, I see potential headaches down the pike. Thoughts?

I wouldn't have expected this to be on the points chart as the points will be double 1 studio. I do not think this means it won't be a booking category, in the same way lock off and dedicated are not on the points charts but are booking categories.

As they have stated every two studios will be able to be connecting I can't see the difficulty in making it a booking category but I don't think we will know for sure until 11th Feb.

I totally agree. We would be booking the connecting studio for our 9 and 7 year olds so there is absolutely no way we will stay there now, let alone buy there now. Thanks for the heads up.

I think wait and see is a better response this is still speculation not fact.

No I think if it is a booking category it will be done as a lock off and will be 1 booking not two.

Why would they need to show the points of two studios it is two times the points of 1

In the case of booking a 2BR vs booking a 1BR + a studio, the point cost is different so they have to have columns for all three options: studio, 1BR, 2BR.

If the points required to book connecting studios will be double the cost of one studio then there is no need to put that option on the chart. On the other hand, if they are going to charge a premium for "guaranteed connecting studios" (say, 10% - 20% more than the cost of two studios booked individually with a request that they connect) then that option should be listed in it's own column on the chart.
