Putting your info on your kid incase they get lost

We did personalized temporary tattoos since my niece loves tattoos. She even reminded us one day. They were supposed to last for 3-5 days, but since she has eczema they didn't last as well on her dry skin, so we replaced them every day.

We also used google voice and put everyone's cell phones on the account so if the number was called, everyone's phones would ring. That way if one person was on the phone at the time the number was called or had bad reception, there were be 4 other adults also getting the call.

Honestly it's not my idea. I'm just passing on information from CMs.

A few years ago I saw a child with a couple Security CMs right as a couple lost parents walked up. DW has a slightly concerned look on her face, DH was practically in shock. I felt really bad for the parents, because especially with the dad, they were going crazy from worry. If your child is going to wander off DLR is the best place for it too happen. It's a little problem, DLR is a place where it happens many times a day and all the employees know what to do.

After watching the exchange I caught up with one of the secruity CMs. I asked what he told the parents. This is when I learned they suggest you mark the back of buttons. Mom and Dad's cell number, and the hotel you are staying in. He said this works for most of the kids, because they are the ones that wear the buttons the most. That is were they look.

When my kids were little we would put a family (business) card in their pockets. It had our names with our cellphone numbers on it. We told the kids if they get lost to give the card to a cast member. Or a mom with kids. We have done this in many places besides WDW.

We have also given the kids whistle to blow if they get lost. This way if they where close by and we couldn't SEE them we would hear the whistle. That has worked really well too. Because it is a different sound then a crying child...it draws your attention. When my oldest was about 7, she got separate from us when we were leaving the parks at the end of the day. We heard the whistle before we realized she was gone!

We actually lost our DD who was 3 at the time right in front of city hall. 3 adults talking about one staying with the DS/stroller and taking the DD into cityhall for a bday phone call that quick of a conversation and she was GONE, she had followed a character back down the entrance and came walking back about 8 minutes later. I can tell you city hall DID NOTHING when I went in there in a frantic mess looking for her!

We have done safety tats, perm markers on the tummy, the kids (3.5 & 5) sing our cell phone number, we teach them to go to a mom with kids or a cashier. We also teach them to NEVER leave the park and show them the turnstyles with anyone and if they are taken there to let the person there know its a tricky person and not a parent. Last one we teach to just go stand against a wall too - because if they start to wander it makes it harder.

So just sharing our story, I should have gone back into City Hall and let them have it but I was so happy to have her back I couldnt stand it.

I read a suggestion on another board that might help the worry with it rubbing off on clothes. They suggested getting an address label and putting it on the back of the button and writing on that.
