Well, we are ready to buy at SSR. I want someone to push me over the edge!! DH and I are ALMOST convinced!!! Someone, tell me I am doing the right thing and won't be disappointed!!

Okay, I love to give my opinion. You know, everyone has one

We bought at SSR, sight unseen. We love Disney so much, and have been impressed with everything they do. So we figured that we won't be sorry, and can have alot of different experiences with our points.

Here is the money logic. Buying this DVC is just spending the money we would already spend on rooms in advance while we are paying on it. When we have it paid off in 5 - 7 yrs, we will have 37 or so years to enjoy these vacations and share them with our kids and grandkids without the rising cost of room rentals! We also can have a great discounted rate at Shades of Green, but with my DH's rank, the rates are going up and up. I can see that in 5 years it will be 200 per night for a deluxe room. We will have flexibility if we want it. Next May, we are planing on staying at SOG for the first weekend, then moving to SSR for Sun-Thurs, saving half the points!

Also, we would never spend the money up front to stay in a deluxe room on property - we would be in the value resorts if we were to stay on property. I'm afraid I'm getting picky in my middle age

If you think about the amount of money you will spend on Disney resorts without being a DVC member that should push you right over. I have had so many Disney trips as a non-member and the amount of money spent could have covered the who DVC cost already. Finally we are members, just made our first payment last month. If you know your family will be making Disney trips yearly or even every couple of years joing DVC is definitely the way to go!

If I had purchased my 150 points 5 years ago when we first started going and had applied my lodging only towards the points, my membership would have been paid off by now. Last October we stayed in 2 courtyard rooms at the WL and the lodging alone was $2,500 for five nights! Why didn't I do this earlier????

Seriously, you ARE doing the right and you won't be disappointed. We bought at OKW way back in 1997. It is, by far, some of the best, if not the best, money we have ever spent. We enjoy wonderful, relaxed Disney vacations now. We don't feel the need to "commando" tour because we know we will be back. We enjoy our time in the parks more, because "if we don't see it this time, we'll see it next time" so there's no frustration. If a line is too long, we don't wait in it. If a park gets too crowded, we go back to our deluxe-level reosrt and hang at the pool. Mornings are relaxed, drinking coffee on the deck overlooking usually lovely scenery...and if it's not perfectly lovely, it's at least interesting!!!!!!!! You "settle in" to your room and truly do feel like you are home, but in a good way....not with all the aggravations of home, but with all the coziness of home.

You won't regret your purchase. We never have.

I just bought in this past October. Have been to Disney every year for the past 12 or so. If I would have done this I would have save sooooo much. Definitely worth it for me. I have stayed in my fair share of Deluxe accomodations and this is just have whith one xtra bedrooom!!!!

My sister and I bought in together and we both had a couple extra points for the year and we are going down in 3 weeks for a Mom getaway weekend!!! No KIDS just us!!! So excited.

Would never been able to do that before. I also bought the annual pass last year and when I plan my next trip I do it a week earlier so I get 2 family uses out of it!! Saved losts of ticket money for me!!!

If you are a WDW nut and you can afford it, then by all means dive in.

Our family got pushed over the edge today when our guide told us that we were approved. Now we begin the wait till closing.

DH is retired and I will be soon; we have no children; we own our permanent residence in NJ and a vacation home in Maine; we are not Disney nuts; and we enjoy quality vacations; we bought SSR last fall because of the add'l years even though living long enough to use those years was not included in our contract ...

We wish we could have bought earlier, we wish we could have bought more points...BUT...we own now and we bought enough points to get out of the frozen northeast for at least one week each winter [we missed 22" of snow this year!]...and our unused points will always be given to family members so that they can enjoy a disney vacation they would not normally take...

And we will be able to leave the contract to the nieces/nephews when our "other contracts" are up.

So our purchase is something we can enjoy now; we can watch our family members enjoy it, too; and we can leave it for family to inherit at a later date.

There is no disappointment for us - DVC ownership fills a lot of purposes for us.

Have you visited it? I hope so! Have you spent part of every hour since you seriously began your search thinking about WDW and DVC? Have you begun planning vacations for the next 5-10 years with points that you don't own yet? If you haven't done these things, you are not ready, if you have, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

I too was on the fence. What pushed me over was the fact that while vacationing at Disney I could stay in a Deluxe accomadations EVERY trip. I was going to splurge this year and stay at a monorail hotel, but it was $2800 during Presidents Week for 6 nights

The last trip to Disney we stayed at the All Stars. The All star resorts are really great Value resorts, but they don't have the same magic as the Deluxe ones. However, I'm also a bit frugal so the thought of having to pay $2800 for 6 nights or $466 a night made me turn to DVC. Since I was going to pay $2800 for 6 nights anyway I just deducted that from my 150 point contract at the BWV. The net was about $11,000 which was alot better than paying $3000 every year.

We just took our 1st trip and it was wonderful. We had a 1 bedroom at the Boardwalk with a boardwalk view. It was so magical. I sat out on our balcony ( we had 2) and just watched the boats come in and all the activity on the boardwalk. It was so relaxing! The one bedroom was just awesome. My favorite part was the washer and dryer (believe it or not). We had clean clothes the entire trip. Having the kitchen was great. We ate breakfast in every morning (which saves $$$) and we had all the comforts of home. Fresh Fruit, cold soda, juice and bottled water, etc. We also enjoy the spaciousness of the room. The kids loved that they had their own TV in their room. We went back to the room a few afternoons to enjoy the pool and rested and took the parks much slower. As others have mentioned, I too was a commando and this trip I wasn't a commando I waited in line at EE when it broke down and they didn't know how long it would take to fix because I wasn't in any hurry. If I didn't have DVC I would not have waited and would have missed EE.

Before we bought we did the math again and again and again. But after we made the decision to buy into DVC I realized that its not about the money. It was about allowing ourselves to enjoy our life by being able to vacation at an excellent resort year after year after year. It was a gift to ourselves to escape from the winter & the rat race every year and enjoy a slow paced magical vacation at Disney. We have something special to look forward to every year now and I'm really glad I did that for me!

I don't think you'll be disappointed in the resort or DVC stays in general. But as to whether it's right for you depends on how you will use it.

I've read your post and all the replies you've recieved. I've got a question that I can't get out of my head : Why do you need a "push" from total strangers? This seems to be common on these boards, people looking for encouragement or approval for there decision. You see the "WhoHOO! Just added on" posts or the " help me decide" posts all the time. Am I off here? I just find this a little weird. If you need a "push" to buy then don't. I will pull you back because it shouldn't take a group of strangers to "push" you into a buy in as substantial as DVC.

Our only regret about DVC is that we didn't buy earlier. We were going to in 1995, but didn't until 1997. DVC has been great - we have taken many more vacations than we would have otherwise because the accommodations are essentially paid for on a monthly basis. We have banked and borrowed points to take a DCL, we have taken advantage of the Concierge Collection - The Plaza, Shelburne Murray Hill and Shutters on the Beach. Our big dilemna now is where to go in 2007 - London or Atlantis, Bahamas for a week or WDW for two weeks!! We are lucky because there are many destinations in the CC that are within driving distance for us.

DVC has us at our first "Welcome home"

I can't speak for the OP and I've seen numerous similar posts. I'd think anyone would be an idiot to rely on total strangers to make their decision for them. However, I always assumed it was people looking for those last tidbits of information to help them make a final decision. Unfortunately, like in this thread, many don't give enough info for us to make informed recommendations. What's totally right for one person may be just the opposite for another.

I read your post yesterday but didn't respond because I didn't want to come across as negative when it sounded like you really wanted enthusiasm. (Which I totally understand!)

But the one thing that's been niggling at me is that I hope you've considered the other costs that are incurred with a WDW vacation. It's wonderful to have the deluxe accommodations squared away, but WDW is not a cheap place to visit. Well, there are ways to save money, but you may have to consider airfare, and there are dining and tickets costs, etc., as well.

Of course, we're a family of six who have to fly and need a two-bedroom and have a lot of mouths to feed, so you might not have the same concerns that we do. For me, DVC is worth it just for the washer and dryer!

I've actually become a better saver since buying into DVC. Putting money aside for our vacation sort of snowballed and we're in better shape financially than we've ever been. [Coffee money into a mutal fund account, upping the (401)k contribution, etc.] Go figure!
