Push me over the edge...

I can't speak for the OP and I've seen numerous similar posts. I'd think anyone would be an idiot to rely on total strangers to make their decision for them. However, I always assumed it was people looking for those last tidbits of information to help them make a final decision. Unfortunately, like in this thread, many don't give enough info for us to make informed recommendations. What's totally right for one person may be just the opposite for another.

Very true Dean. This is really the issue I have with this and other similiar posts. Last minute questions are normal and this board is a great place to have them answered. No specific questions were asked here and no info. was given. It just seems this poster wants a pat on the back or a congratulations. Will the OP be financing?, where do they travel from?, how large is there family?, will they stay on site at least every other year, etc. It is a little disconcerting to me with all these people saying yeah dive right in without any knowledge of this posters situation. DVC is not a good choice for everyone. Thanks for your thoughts.

I'm assuming the OP is just excited, and just looking to create their own thread to read; and that in reality, they would not be crazy enough to actually seek advice on a HUGE purchase/commitment from totally ANONYMOUS STRANGERS! For whatever reason, you see lots of posts like this; and I'm sure they're just rhetorical in nature!

I recommend DVC to most people I know, but NOT ALL; some folks' situation just doesn't allow for a purchase like that...

I would hope that we all know we are not making any kind of serious decision for anyone - just enjoying expressing our enthusiasm for Disney. :thumbsup2

I'm sure someone who is able to purchase and is asking for a "push" has
enough common sense to have looked at all of the financial ramifications. Why so serious :confused3 :confused3

::yes:: I suspect, and I could be projecting, that the OP is in that place where many of the less decisive or frugal of us were before purchase where intellectually, we knew DVC would be a great thing for the family and we wanted it, but.... we just didn't want to part with the money! :) A lot of us go through this for big purchases.

All I can tell you OP is I went through months of angst over whether to pull the trigger or not, and now that we have (bought a couple months ago), I am finally at peace. :)

I may be different but we took over a year to a year and a half before finally buying into DVC. It wasn't the finances that held us back but whether or not I'd want to go to WDW every year was the question. We did buy and am so glad that we did because I find I go to WDW at least 4 times a year for solo trips and dh and I go on a yearly trip together.

I'm with Shannon and Dave and some of the others.

I can tell you we have been happy with our decision. However, make sure that you know what you are doing. Are you financially able to make this committment? Is their room for regular Disney vacations in your financial priorities. Is this a lifestyle choice for you - and if your life is going to change (i.e. haven't had kids yet, or kids are growing up) - how will that impact your vacationing habits (and your finances - those darn kids always turn out to be expensive). Have you considered the additional costs involved in Disney - this can save you money on your room, but tickets and food and transportation will still be expensive.

Do you like SSR? Will you regret not buying a different resort? SSR certainly has its fans, but if you are buying SSR to stay at BCVs you might be disappointed - at least on occation.

Do you have realistic expectations on trading value? DVC is great for Disney - but if your plan is to do a lot of trading out or cruising, you may find that you've made a mistake.

If you've considered all of this and are comfortable, then I'll push. If you haven't, I'll be pulling you back for a little more thought.

Great post Crisi. You did a much better job than I did of putting the questions out there for the OP.

We should, on occasion, be more cautious about spending also. I understand.
