Ok - silly question. This is my first trip and I need to know if anyone actally brings a purse to the parks. I'm not a big fan of the fanny pack! If not, how do you carry cash, camera, sunscreen, etc?

Thanks for your help! :flower:

I carry a small denim bag with a shoulder strap that I bought one year at the store in EPCOT's Japan. It's just big enough to hold the essentials without becoming too heavy and cumbersome. I don't carry alot in it. If I'm carrying the camera (instead of DH) I actually use my camera case as my bag. Its small too, but large enough for the camera, extra batteries, cell phone and a little more. My girls (9&11) used to carry fanny packs, but now we all carry a small purse.

I use our Disney Quest backpack that we got in 2002. It's a nice size to hold everything for us (DH, DS and I) and has two pouches for beverage bottles.

I have a small canvas shoulder bag that's perfect for our trips. It's about the size of a medium size notebook and easily holds my travel wallet, camera, cellphone and a few other essentials. It's fairly light so if I want I can even throw it in our larger Disney bag (where I keep windbreakers, drinks, packages, etc..). I love this bag when we cruise also because the navigators fit inside perfectly when they're folded so I can always carry one with me. Best part about the bag is that it can be found at Walmart for $9.99 in the backpack section. :teeth: It comes in black and navy but I like the black one because it goes with everything. ;) (I've also bought a version of this bag sold at the Bass Outlet but believe it or not the Walmart bag held up better). :wizard:

NEVER ever carry a purse in the parks myself. Used to use a fanny pack but those days about gone too. If it doesn't fit in my pocket I don't take it.

WHY do you need to take sun screen into the parks the sports blocks are sweat and water proof DH who is very sun sensitive uses the sport block usually a 48 or higher once in the AM and he is done for the day.

i carry my purse inside a backpack....
the backpack fits my purse, plus all the snacks my kids like to have along...
i keep the tickets, KTTW and a small amount of cash in the little front pocket of the backpack...

there isn't really all that much in my purse either, our passports (i leave the tickets in the room safe), credit cards, more money, rental car document and heath insurance contract.

Pretty obvious tip but, if you do carry a purse, be sure it CLOSES securely at the top (i.e. not one where anything could fall out if you turned it upside down!). Zippers are better than magnetic type closures, in my experience, for those Disney rides that get a little wild!

I carry a slightly larger than necessary camera bag. It is got just enough extra room to carry chapstick, credit cards, cash etc and the best part is, when I need him to my DH will carry it! :teeth: We've started to call it the man-purse.

I got a small diaper bag one year and it works great.

It has a place under it for wipes and 2 end pockets, the front folds down for credit cards and cash and inside is big enough for ponchos, camers and sunscreen.

It has a nice wide strap for over the shoulder, got it at Wally world cheap :flower:

I have a small purse that goes over one shoulder and across the chest. I actually found it a few years ago on clearance at the Disney store. I got my DD one too and it's perfect for her autograph book and she uses the strap as a lanyard for her pins. It's very lightweight so I don't hardly notice it. It's hard to see, but DD and I are both carrying them in my avitar photo to the left.

I feel nekkid without a purse (heheh) so yes I carry one in the parks.
Both the ones I've used in that past are Nylon (so it's pretty water-tight) and has a top zip. Both go across the chest and can even adjust down to me putting it through my belt loops and wearing it on my hip.

it's NOT a fanny pack...I swear, it looks cooler. hehehe (sorry - not a fan of the butt packs!)

Inside I carry my gum, chapstick, and wallet...with room to spare for the digital camera when DH doesn't want to keep it in his cargo shorts anylonger.

Definetly get a nylon one...we've crammed it full of stuff on Kali and the popeye ride at US (where you get DRENCHED)..and stuff has stayed dry.

Check out places like TJMaxx/Marshalls for cheapie bags.

I carry a medium sized black tote that is really light weight. I don't always take it though. Sometimes Ijust have a small wallet on a cord that I carry.

Well I guess I must admit that I carry a fanny pack! Yes I am sure the fashion police will be out in full force searching for me but I hate to carry a purse and having to worry about losing it so it is a fanny pack for me. I have a very small black one and it works fine, in fact the last time we were at Disney I had my husband wear it...I figured we are old grandparents so it is expected of us to wear such fashion boo-boos.

My son and I bought a canvas backpack during the 25th anniversary of WDW. It has a big logo on the back plus we had his initials and "ears" monogrammed on the flap. It has a zippered pouch on the back as well. It holds all our stuff including camera, ponchos, small purchases, sunscreen, etc. I still wear a waistpack sometimes if our party splits up.

I used to carry a fanny pack but not anymore. Lately I've been carrying a shoulder bag. It's about the height of a park map and width of 2 park maps side by side. It's got plenty of pockets and compartments. I do like using the fanny pack, but this bag suits me better because I can carry my tripod in it and it fits 2 autograph books plus every thing I need to carry.

I'm part of the "Official-Out-Of-Stye-Fanny-Pack-Club". :rotfl:

I only wear it at Disney but I find it to be the easiest thing to wear all day. Shoulder straps bother me after hours in the heat and purses get in the way.

GO FANNY PACKERS! :cool1:

I downsize when at WDW. We use a Nike Gear Bag (ultra lightweight) and cool enough for DS to carry it. I use a small wristlet that I fasten to my belt loop. The rest is in the Gear Bag. DH carries the "man-purse" which is the digital SLR camera.

I agree, I would never wear a fanny pack anywhere else, but they are great in the parks because your shoulders don't get tired from carrying a purse and you know the bag is safe on you because it's not flying around on the rides. My purses tend to slide around on my shoulders and it drives me nuts after a while. One tip: Put all your stuff inside a ziploc bag or bags inside your bag, whatever bag you carry. This way it will not get wet on water rides, etc. I have brought my cell phone to water parks and in the rain and it was safe and dry this way. Use freezer bags because they are extra strong.

Have fun!

I carry a waterproof bag over my shoulder. Got it at the Wal-Mart for aroud $6.00. It has a couple of different compartments. It really very handy!

I have a small camera bag that I double as a carry all for my stuff when we go to the parks.
