OK, so I saw it at ACMoore yesterday, and I thought it looked really nice.

Does anyone have this? Or have you tried it? Does it cut straight? Easy to use? Is it worth the $$ (using a coupon it's like $35)

Is there a better cutter? One that's more portable?

I'm not sure which one you were looking at but I have one that I won at CKU - it's this one:

I haven't used it too much because my scraproom is a total mess and it doesn't have a home yet but I like all the blades and it cuts well

I have the one that can come apart and be two different cutters - I hate it with a passion. Totally difficult to use, it often comes apart at the wrong moment, and I've had nothing but grief with dealing with the company.

Maybe I just have a dud, but I much prefer my Making Memories cutter for big stuff and my Creative Memories mini for my little stuff.

Hmmmm, this one had a guillotine cutter at 1 side, and a slider cutter at the other. Cost is like $70 full price. The whole thing looked purple to me, not white...

Which Making Memories one do you use? I have my old Fiskars, and it's time for a new one...

OK, I just went to that site, and it $49.00 there...ACMoores is $30 more!!!! Oh barf that makes me sick!!! :guilty:

I had it - used it - hated it - returned it. I just found it totally difficult to use, and like someone else said, it kept falling apart! & I got mine with a coupon for only $35 and I STILL returned it.

Bought the new Making Memories one...use it for paper, & my cm mini for pics.

I hate the guillotine cutters, I have a bad habbit of getting my finger in the way (my CM mini one is the worst, I sliced my index finger on it last week. That thing is getting tossed, I'm done)

What a coincidence! I was just looking on-line at paper cutters. If you go to wildivymemories.com, the most popular ones are compared, and their prices are better than at most stores. I still can't decide what I want...

I have a Tonic cutter and I love it... while I was at a CK convention, they were previewing the Purple Cows and I have to say that they are very nice!

I think it would be a good investment.

Funny you should ask this as I have been researching the Purple Cows one AND the Making Memories cutter.

From what I've found:
Both are roughly the same size
The Purple Cow has two cutters in one that can be taken apart to work as two independent cutters.
The Making Memories is a single slide cutter that can be folded in half for a smaller profile or unfolded to fit a 12x12 page.
The Making Memories has a self-sharpening blade.
The Purple Cow has had horrible reviews. In fact, none of the reviews I've read for the model at ACMoore have been complimentary. Most say the two parts fall apart constantly or are impossible to take apart.
The Making Memories is one of the highest rated cutters in its size but most ratings mention that it is very heavy and bulky but cuts the straightest.

I think I've just about decided to go with the Making Memories. The self-sharpening blade and the straight cuts are incredibly attractive to me.

I hope all that helps!

I also HATE my Purple Cow cutter!!! I have the one with the guillotine on one side and the rolling cutter on the other. I bought it when Memories was going out of business, and if I could have returned it, I would have. It cuts okay, but the inch markings on it are really weird. I am hoping to buy the Making Memories one the next time I find a 40% off coupon.

I think the Making Memories trimmer sounds better. If it's too heavy to travel with, I can temporarily go back to the Fiskars that doesn't cut straight! (I have read that if you cut SLOWLY, it does a better job.) Actually, I wouldn't mind a heavy trimmer. The problem I have with my guillotine style trimmer is that it's so light weight, that sometimes when I lift the cutter arm the whole thing rises up! One question about the "self-sharpening" blade -- how long will this really last? Wouldn't you eventually need to replace it?

I have the Making Memories trimmer and it is by far the BEST trimmer I have ever owned. I love it, love it, love it!

If you live in Utah or are near here.... or can travel here in the spring Making Memories has a warehouse sale that is amazing. I bought mine there for $20.

I have the Making Memories trimmer and I love it! I really don't find it all that heavy and cumbersome. I guess if I compared it to my flimsy trimmer I had before the MM's one it would be. It fit very nicely in my Making Memories rolling bag when I went to my last crop. I have said it once, but I am going to say it again- watch out for the ruler that comes with it!! It is heavy and the ends are sharp- not good when it falls on your foot.

I have the Purple Cow that can be split in half, as does my friend, and neither of us knows how we scrapped before we had these!

I am a major klutz (I have dropped my QK Squeeze on my foot, stepped on Fastenator staples, melted velum, etc) and I have not once hurt my self with the guillotine side of my PC.

I use my PC to cut double mats all of the time. It sits to my immediate left on my desk and gets as much use as my QK Rev.

I have the MM one (and over here it cost over £40 - thats well over $80 to you :scared1: ) because I had to keep buying blades for my CM 12" cutter (it HATES Bazzil, especially bling :sad2: )so I reasoned at £8 a pack for blades for the CM it would soon pay for itself :thumbsup2

It is quite heavy, but I keep it tucked out of the way and only bring it out for cutting bazzil or big swap cutting jobs (preferably when DH is at work :rolleyes1 ) But it cuts straight AND its measurements are straight and lined up, and you can cut thin little strips off to tidy things up if you want. When I unpacked it it didn't cut well, so i rang up the supplier who said it was because the blade was unaligned - basically you just side it off and back on again, its not difficult. I think it works on the basis of those self-sharpening knives, each time you use it, it sharpens itself. Now I've got one of those knives I've had for 20 years and its still fine, so i reckon that's OK. Just make sure you use it in both directions, IYSWIM.

I wouldn't swap it!

I do think the MM one is heavy....when it's folded, it does fit inside my rolling tote.....If I'm going to a weekend crop I bring it...if I'm just going to a crop for a few hours, I pull out my cutterpede.

I love the concept of the Purple Cows one! Since I bring both the MM & my CM mini ...but it's just not made well.

Another ? about the MM trimmer: If it folds, does that crack in the center interfere with cutting?

Anyone have a link for the making memories cutter? I too am spending a small fortune on replacement blades for the CM cutter.
