Purity Balls? Yuck

That certainly wasn't what I was expecting a "purity ball" to be? :rotfl2:

Apparently, any excuse to throw a party works? :confused3

I wont even tell you where my mind went with that phrase ... Suffice it to say, that's not even remotely close to what I was thinking it was!

Not what I was expecting at all.

DD has made a vow of purity but her virginity has not been "given to her father" Its her choice, not his. He doesn't have anything to do with it. Its all between dd and God. And she certainly doesn't need dh "protecting" her purity. :rotfl: DD doesn't much need anyone protecting ANYTHING for her. I can hear her now, "That's just weird." :lmao:

And it sounds like these churches teach a different meaning of purity too. While dd vows not to have sex until marriage, kissing probably wasn't part of the bargain. :goodvibes

But then the youth director at a church we used to attend teaches that girls should be "courted" and the boy should ask the father if he can take the girl on the date and the parents should be included on all dates, so there are always differences and extremes.

I respect the idea behind it but disagree about making a big show about it. Bibically, fathers are to lead their house and family in Christ no matter what. There is indeed a big ceremony involved, its called the wedding day and the marriage vows to your wife.

I think these big show off flashy things (purity rings and balls) materialize something that doesn't need to be so in everyone's face. The commitment of Purity has to come between the child and God. The way I see it, if as the parents you have to bribe your child with fancy parties and wedding like rings to get them to commit to purity then you obviously failed somewhere to connect with your child and get them to understand the importance of the commitment in the first place.

I too was wondering if the boys took a similar vow. After all it takes two to tango.

I grew up around horses. Trying to be delicate here :flower3:. The term "cover" was used. As in a stallion would cover the mare. And 11 months later a new foal would be born.

I find this quote of the father's promise to be disturbing.

"I ………’s father, choose before God to cover my daughter as her authority and protection in the area of purity. I will be pure in my own life as a man, husband and father.

I will be a man of integrity and accountability as I lead, guide and pray over my daughter and my family as the High Priest in my home. This covering will be used by God to influence generations to come."

I know they may not be using "cover" in the traditional sense that it is used in my area. At least I hope not. :rolleyes1

I swear this is the way a lot of these churches make money. We have neighbors that joined a megachurch and boy did their lives change (for the weirder) since then.

So glad that I wasn't the only one whose mind went there when I read that! :crazy2:

Probably the same place mine went and I was NOT going to click that link here at work. LOL.

I have heard that a lot. We actually had the opposite happen. We left a small church (with the YD I mentioned before) and joined a megachurch. Its different because it is so big but so much of what they teach is more inline with our beliefs and a lot less of the, imho, "stranger" teaching to the youth. The YD we have now doesn't teach "courting" which dd just found to be "too weird":rotfl:.

First thing I thought of was some sort of male chastity belt......oh my mind....

‘This is just a reminder that keeping yourself pure is important. So you keep this on your finger and from this point you are married to the Lord and your father is your boyfriend.’

"Married," with a boyfriend on the side -- Um, isn't that cheating?

:lmao:

I really think the choice to remain pure is between an individual and God. It is a big show that will result in the girls rebelling as they get older.

And incestous.

So if dad is the boyfriend, are they ever allowed to date :confused3
