We are renting points this trip and I realize that the DVC owner had to purchase the Disney Dinning Plan for us. If we do this and decide we want to upgrade to the Deluxe Plan can we do this as long as the DVC owner does it for us?

As an owner I would find this frustrating organising a dining plan for renters then having to change it. Remember people who rent their points are not travel agents.

However it is theoretically possible.

It may be possible but it will depend on how you are paying for it- DVC may have to refund the money and then charge the new amount- if you pay with gift cards or such and then need a refund and then repayment that would be extremely labor intensive for the owner. Personally if you were renting my points I would want you to make the decision on the dining plan when you were ready to purchase it and not change it. You would have to upgrade it/add it at least 2 days before but that may not give time for a refund/repurchase so I would suggest doing it earlier plus there is always the possibility the owner may be out of town or unable to help you at that late date and you would not get what you wanted.

Don't bother paying for the dining plan until you've decided which one you want. DVC owners can add the dining plan up to 48 hours in advance. Just be sure to coordinate with the owner so you don't run out of time if there's a delay.

The regular DDP is a lot of eating, IMO feels like you are at a eating marathon instead of Disney. The deluxe plan is a ton of eating and we would only do it for a couple of days max.
